Glad to hear you're working with KMRC burners. I love their burners! Easy to use and great price on them as well! I already have a few of them, and they were awesome in helping me out when I had a problem with one of them. Great company. They're my go-to for afterburners!
Thanks for the canard mod idea, modified mine yesterday and tested it today, at standard cg, take off delayed, moved cg further back, flies great and landing so much better and slow….thanks again
What things do I need to adjust in my remote control for the modification? I understand trimming the elevator up, but do I need to adjust the gyro? I have the original Reflex v2 from FMS and want to keep it. Would be nice if someone could help me :)
@@chrisdaws2421 Okay, then the gyro works the same after modifying the canards and there's no need to adjust the gyro because of that and it just flys better than before right? Thank you very much!
My experience with 64mm edfs, underpowered, with little flight times. Have had great success with Arrows 50mm, same speed with less weight more agility and better overall control than the 64s... Great follow-up video, always excited for Saturdays. I get a 1, 2 punch from jon, then tail heavy boys.. Good time to be in Rc
Hi Jon, my crucial mod on this plane is changing to an 80A esc and fly on 5s 2200/2800. 50% more power and a whole bucket load more fun. Power to get out of problems and no alpha lock anymore.
At the cost of more wing loading, though. Useful if you're flying fast which is not something we're usually concerned with. Happy to see it works for you though!
Very nice Jon, got to try one! Cool mod on the cannards. Glad to hear you going to KM RC Models Burners. Been using his for a while. So easy, and the V2 is really versatile.
@@TwoBrosRC Man, you should know that hobbies come and go. I've been in to so many other hobbies, but this airplane stuff has me hooked. I fear it might be for life. And it's your fault! 😂

Great review of this as usual....very informative. Just wondering what angle you modded the canards to... I've got one in the box still and would love to incorporate that.... Cheers
A buddy bought this for me as a first edf for a birthday gift and it'll be in Thursday I can't wait to learn new flying characteristics. Should I glue the canards in at an angle if using this a a first jet?
Hi, I bought the 64mm Rafale and now it's ready to fly. I set it up like you (AS3X with same gains + tilted canards). I have a last question before flying it. How much did you trim your elevator down with the tilted canards? Thanks again for your video - you're the reason I bought it and really am happy about it...
Elevator is actually trimmed up with the canards pointed down. Try about 1 to 2mm up. You may need more or less depending on your center of gravity. Join us on Discord and share your flight with it! bit.ly/TBRCDiscord
Yup, we always launch in SAFE by hand. Be sure you trim the elevons up a bit to compensate for the downward canard position, otherwise it'll lawn dart on ya!
I'm wondering if it might be possible to use the hinges from the Freewing 64mm F-18 to allow the canards to move in flight. I used the hinges on a Freewing F-8 to give it full flying stabs and it worked great.
It's probably possible, though it might be a lot of work for very little tangible benefit. The canards only begin to noticeably affect airflow at high AoA and slow speeds.
@@TwoBrosRC yes thats the counterpart/disadvantage. The edf weights a bit more, the battery weights more and the ESC weight more. Than you are around 150g more on a lighter Lipo pack. That´s why I´m thinking to let my Futura 64mm just light 4S on my 180g packs... But sometimes speed and almost unlimited vertical are also cool xD
Set gains to relative in your receiver, assign a mix of throttle to the gain channel you're using. Make sure it's a curved mix. On high throttle, reduce gains. On low throttle, increase gains. It functions similar to a full scale flight computer.
@@TwoBrosRC I've flown a few planes, and some scratch builds, but I'm definitely still a beginner - medium skill pilot, my younger sibling is getting really good with the trainer, so I'm looking at maybe getting him something for Christmas :)
This thing is slow and will barely take off from grass. Taking off i give it full down then go full throttle. Once up to speed go full up and it will pop off the ground. Otherwise its a disappointment. I wish i did not buy it. I bought it because of this video.

As far down as they can go. Roughly 15 degrees down.
It's a good plane. Only complaint is the esc gets confused with the smc packs if you charge them to HV.
We didn't have that problem with ours, oddly.

No, we'd recommend that you don't try this mod until you've gotten used to how it flies first.
Unless you plan on flying slow in big circles at high angle attack don’t ruin your new airplane

Thanks! We've never flown anything from X-Fly so we can't speculate.
Great video after 1 year testing! One question, is it possible to use a 4 channel receiver for this model like the AR410 4 Spektrum? Thanks 😃
You could use a simple 4 channel receiver, but you'd have no gyro which is absolutely needed if you get the CG far enough back.
nice flights, can you tell me, if the canard flaps are fixed, why are they lowered forward?
We explained in the video. Listen starting at 2:10
Shi…. Now I’ll need to get this too 🤣 Did you try the Freewing 6S setup too?
Nah, never saw the point to the extra wing load of 6 cells.

AS3X Gains mix on the Throttle?? Did I hear this Correctly?! Can you make a how-to-do mix gains on throttle vid 😄👍

@TwoBrosRC hey thanks for the quick reply.
Gonna try to set it up .. but for now it's hocuspocus for me
@@TwoBrosRCstupud question: can I use this on every jet or just the Rafale?
Were you able to get to the wing mod yet? If so, any feedback?
Full span elevons? Nope, haven't finished it yet - been way too busy with other projects. It's something we'd like to do in the future though.
When you hand Launched with stock setup are you in stable mode?? or off?
We used SAFE.
After the canard mod, do you still have as much up elevator authority during normal non high alpha flight?
You need the trim in order to counteract the pitch down moment of the canards, regardless of what angle of attack the jet is flying in.
@@TwoBrosRC I was referring to whether or not the mod negatively affects the pitch up authority (even after being trimmed out)
Not at all. If anything, it's more pitch sensitive because we're running a very aft CG.
What about not flying with the canards at all or do they add alot to the performance of the jet ? I think the jet looks better without them.
Without canards, it would likely need a lot of trim *and* a gyro to help stabilize it.
Yeah right 🤣🤣
It’ll fly better without the canards. It absolutely does NOT need a gyro. This guy gives amateur advice at best
Curious, how do you go from 10/10 to 8.5/10. What changed?
Should be covered in the vid.
What battery did you use?
2200 4 cell packs. SMC sells great batteries in that range.
With rhe canard mod. It's needed fly with gyro? I have one and fly wo gyro.
The canard mod is only needed if you're moving the CG back where we have it. At that point, a gyro becomes incredibly useful.
Bro I have it but I’m waiting for the right time for the maiden

Fixing the jet so it can't get stuck in high alpha isn't a gimmick.
