I am just getting back into modeling again after being gone for over 40 years. I have been watching your videos and I have learned a lot, but I liked this version better. Thanks it was amazing
Really enjoyed this long format - it's great to watch, but also to hear you explain the thought process behind each step. The build turned out fantastic, thank you for sharing!
You and @ChampionScaleModelling are two of my favourite TH-camrs - your videos are longer, but there's no waffle, just great informative and occasionally humorous commentary.
Seeing all the steps , the way you approach fitting parts, your techniques and processes, how you use tools and get effects are all very useful for a novice like me -- please continue with the longer format for builds
While I build my models usually I put TH-cam videos of people building theirs. I love when they talk about the hobby, the model their are making, and give their opinions. This video it's just great, great work and great finish.
Brett I just got done with this video, I have to say that the length is fine, really well done. Now I'm not really a aircraft modeler but I have built some over the years but I am primarily a warships builder and diorama builder. Primarily I build 1/700 & 1/350. My current project is a 1/700 scale diorama of Pearl Harbor, yes, I am doing the full harbor and shipyard. I must say that I have really enjoyed your channel and it is amazing to see the a work of art transform from a box of plastic. Great job and I appreciate you and your work.
I think you have done a spectacular job on this build. I also enjoyed the longer format. It did not waffle on and was constantly informative. My only critique is on some of the colour choices. My research over the years on the Fw190 has found that the interior was painted RLM66, which is a very similar tone to the German grey you used. It is a little more blue however and this can be seen in the colour of the photo etched cockpit panels. The upper colours were RLM74 and RLM75, with the lower surfaces being RLM76. Wheel wells, inside gear doors, and the internals of structures except the cockpit were RLM02. That includes the undercarriage legs. The problem with these Luftwaffe aircraft though is very late in the war they used a whole bunch of different colours. Eduard have been pretty good of late with getting their colour call outs on point. The RLM80 you used on top of your build was seen together with RLM79 sandgelb on Luftwaffe aircraft in the North African theatre. Regardless of these colour call outs it’s a beautiful build, it looks fantastic and you should be very proud of your efforts. Thank you for sharing with us and keep up the great work.
Brett. Thank you so much for showing your detail on the full build. I'm just now getting back into the hobby and this video was so helpful to this newbie. I hope you continue to do more full builds. Very informative and enjoyable to watch. 😊
Beautiful! Insta sub! This dio tells a perfect, simple story and it's construction and the description of it, was expertly done! This guy KNOWS what he's talking about! I just recently retired and am looking forward to resuming the greatest hobby in the World, now that I have more time, and I'm really glad I found channels like this for inspiration! I'll be looking for MORE videos by Hammerhead Model Making!!!
Thats quite the glowing review, thank you very much, your kind words are greatly appreciated!! I'm glad you have more time for the hobby and I'm glad you found the channel, cheers! -Brett
Throughly enjoyed this from start to finish, and the end result was amazing. The whole diorama was brilliant and the finish on the FW-190 was stunning. Thanks for sharing your work and more videos like this please. Jason 🇬🇧
Great video Hammerhead! Absolutely outstanding performances and skills used in those video. I’m blown away by the cockpit and the small photoetch items you had to put together. Again, great video! I have this saved to my account. I’ll be referencing this video when I do my own FW190 A8 and any aircraft for that matter! 😃
New subscriber here. Brett, love the subject matter, craftsmanship, and detailed commentary in this video!! Great stuff and beautiful work!! Love the diarama. Fantastic paint work!Grass looks very realistic, too!
I really like seeing your process and seeing the details work. It's a great instruction and inspiration. I refer to your videos and a few others for helping me with details on my models. I'm currently working on a tamiya F-14A and an Italeri S-3 Viking. I'm hanging them in a little diorama were the S-3 is refueling the F-14A.
@HammerheadModelMaking it's been a lot of fun. Lol, I have been working on those models since Christmas. I am also working on the Predator from Predator 2. I would definitely like to see what you would do on the Predator.
Fantastic to watch. You did a great job, including the full build and base with figures. Very informative for an amateur modeller still learning , great insight into a lot of different techniques. Thanks
Hey Brett, Yep I really like the longer format. I may disagree with you about small PE parts as I lost a couple of bits for the instrument panel of the P-39,but also i need to re-plan my entire modelling set up to make it not so vulnerable to having pieces ping all over the place. A really nice result overall and I'm taking away a couple more techniques.👍👍
Thankyou for the step by step, I've got this kit in my stash and its good to see it go together. I'm glad its a pleasing kit tbh, and cool to see what can be done with it
@@HammerheadModelMaking dude, your washing kungfu is powerful in its water basedness, but my enamel kungfu is superior in its results. find a paint range that works for you with a simple white spirit base, I use humbrol with success (your mileage may vary but) once you get into diluting actual enamel pigments flesh can become relatively simple... and all the dirt in the world is at your brush tip... good hunting
Yes, this was brilliant, thanks so much for sharing. Great painting and weathering too, the post-shading worked very nicely. Also the wash you used was very interesrting, being so simple (and cheap) to create and offering results that are indistinguishable from more expensive products. I guess one huge advantage of watercolors is that they can be re-activated with even a little moisture and they can be wiped off as much as you like (contrary to all acrylic washes and their infamous tidemarks - unless you use artists' gouache acrylics, which also re-activate, to make a custom home brew...). So great idea! Please do more of these longer videos, they are much better for reference, instruction and inspiration. The A-8/R2 version had the outer wing 20 mm MG-151 cannons replaced by 30 mm MK 108 cannons for a harder punch against the bombers. The Mk-108 was a short barrelled cannon, and its barell did not protrude much through the wing's leading edge, but required that "bump" on the wing upper surface, to fit inside the wing. In some of these later Sturmböcke versions of the FW-190, as you correctly guessed, the cowling machine guns firing through the propeller were removed both to save weight, and because they were relatively ineffective against the heavy allied bombers. So the Luftwaffe preferred to save the weight of the machine guns and their ammo and add the much heavier Mk-108 30mm cannons on the outer wings and in some cases also add underwing rocket pods. And yes the little fan at the front, obstructing a lot of the the view of the engine, is the BMW 801 cooling fan 🙂
42:00 100% agree the one thing that greatly increased my odds of removing the decal film was to let it sit for 24 hours and fully adhere/dry out. I also like to use a soft toothpick to push up the corner of the decals the round edges do not scratch the paint underneath.
The interrior grey was RLM 66 -Vallejo 71055 -AMig 0280 For the chrome i would highly recommend Super Chrome from AK Interactive it is the same stuff as Molotov just bottled. Really nice build, and i think you got the "shine" of the plane spot on.
Loved watching this sir! I just received my Airfix F-86F in 1:48th scale and started while watching. Love how the diorama looks too. Thanks for giving us a definitive way to get Eduard decals to look good also :D
I definitely prefer the long versions of your videos. They are fun to watch. Congratulations on the beautiful Fw 190. I don't know much about Luftwaffe planes, but a friend once told me that when the limousine was moved aside, the antenna wire fell freely onto the fuselage - it was not flexible.
Due to the structure of the video it's easy to watch, your voice is also easy to listen to which helps. It looks like you might need to play around with the white balance as it looks a bit weird at times.
The best fw-190A in the scale but still with a slightly fluegwerke non-tapering cowling... The forward ring moved back and forth as the oil ran through it: The gap could be small or big depending on engine temperature. The better Hasegawa cowling will fit, but it is a lot of work. Good work!
There is a small rectangular door on the left side below he cockpit entrance. When you look at aircraft these are indents so the pilot can push his foot in to climb into the cockpit. It should be weathered appropriately as his boots rest on this spring loaded panel as they climb in, Some scratches might be appropriate. The panel pops back out once the foot is removed. Many aircraft use these. In WW1 there were semi circular cut outs in the metal or fabric to put their feet into.Hey, Great work!
Thanks for this extented video version. It’s a great idea. This model kit « just from the box » is superb. Fantastic modelling job 😊 Subscribe is done.
Hi Brett, yes please, the more you show the better I like it. I can't say I'm re-learning modelling skills because forty odd years ago when I was last regularly making models, the only techniques I knew were shake the paint well and try and find a smaller brush. Anyway, that is one lovely looking "Butcher Bird" (if such things can be called lovely but I hope you get my drift). Really, really nice, lots of Oohs and Aahs, and many thanks for sharing it with us. I had been wondering why heavily diluted acrylics weren't being used as washes, turns out they are, with the added magic ingredient of a surface tension killer. Do you happen to know whether soap or detergent makes a difference? Looking forward to your next "Masterclass", my regards....
Thank you so much for the kind words, regarding this watercolor wash, Dish soap vs dish detergent, I haven't tried detergent, so I'm not sure if it would have the same effect as the dish soap.
Hi, thank you for another fantastic video, and fantastic work. I'm following your work for a very long time. I found them extremely good, helpful, and instructive. This format of the video is very good, and i would like to see more (especially ww2 german aircrafts) of them. I personally dont have any luck spraying Vallejo colours, so i would like to give a few comments concerning colours. IMHO Mr. Aquaeos' range of colours is better and more accurate. Especially for interiors of german aircraft. Those paints are also water acrylic. As i said, that is from my experience. I always get awkward finish with Vallejo paints. That being said, i prefer ammo mig over Vallejo. I do use ammo mig rlm 66, 74, 75 76, and rlm 02 for the wheel base, for late german aeroplanes. I tone them with a drop of white for highlighting. As i understand the subject, rlm66 (cockpit colour) is german black/grey used for tanks adopted, because of glare issues of rlm 02. as i understand somewhere in 1942. 5hat is again my understanding of the matter. Once again, thank you for a great video. i do look forward to another detail very detailed video.
nicely presented video kept me interested right to the end , i have the same problem with flesh tones and do the same as you, its great to watch your techniques as i am basically a novice with planes , i started with Armour to develop my skills but similar but not the same , cheers Hammerhead look forward to your next installment
Brilliant build dude! Love it! 190 is one of my faves. When it comes to Luftwaffe RML colours is un like most nations there is not much in the way if documentation to know the exact colours. I find anyone calming what should be the right RML colour normally has no idea what there on about plus, and this is something they dont take in consideration that is documented is that depending on factory paint stocks are will depend on what it comes out like. They were told what the colours should be an what ratios ‘should be’ wont mean they will come out like that so there is nor real right or wrong colour also you can calm ‘its been out side along time!’ The undercarriage bays some times will be the same colour as the under side and some are a odd grey brown. Your right in the nose guns they were deleted on some to reduce the wight if these already heavy aircraft. I love eduard kits but i dont like there decals! But i have found using white spirits on a cotton bud works really well, so you can still put it on the conventional way and so you can do decals as normal then use the spirits on a bud and it will come way easy!
First, because you asked, I personally love the format of your videos and have no problem watching the hr+ long content. I think this build came out beautifully and would purchase this kit due to the fun you had. Thanks for taking us on the journey with you! Out of curiosity, how long did this build roughly take to build? It would have taken me at least 2 months. I’m like a snail with my builds!😂
absolutely gorgeous, i love it. only the radio antenna seems off, with the canopy open / back, the antenna wire would have some slack to it. great build nonetheless!
The main thing for me is that if you're doing 1/72, I won't bother watching. At my age with my eyesight it's too small for me to build. When it comes to length, I like the longer videos. I think I've spent over 3 hours watching two of your videos this evening and enjoyed every minute (B1 and FW 190). I'm currently building the Tamiya Spitfire Mk.I that comes with the Austin 10 Utility vehicle. The Austin has turned out to be a fun little diversion. I've looked at the Tamiya FW 190 with Citroën staff car on Scalemates, and in those instructions, it's painted in a pale green.
I’ve only built one Eduard kit, but I love ‘em! I set my decals in place using Micro-Set, but did wait 24 hours minimum. Then used a brush with Mineral Spirits to remove the carrier film. Personally, I think doing separate video “chapters” will retain viewers. I did it tonight, but it’s hard to watch an hour + video in one sitting. I think 15-25 minutes is preferable. Just my two cents. Turned out great! Peace and love.
As usual an excellent job building and painting the kit as well as the diorama. Myself I've always had an interest in German combat aircraft and was wondering if you might at some point build the Eduard Premium kit of the FW 190 D 9. Keep up the good work.
I've heard that the Eduard Doras can be a little bit of a struggle, but I would be lying if I said I didn't want to build one with the red and white striped underside.
take one with small weehl . is so mutch easyer to use. the nummer of the theets ar nesesery important is the quality and size ! :) i byed for first the master tool rivetor cheep does the job but now i know how hard it is to scrib with such a big weehl a smaller was wey easyer for the small detail work.
Hello mr. Hammer!i dont want 2 lickspittle but ur a shiny beacon that is delivering fun excitenes and Inspiration and knowledge.and the length is just right.not 2short.not 2long. With best regards and sticky greetings from Brandenburg/germany.your fellow modellmate.christian
@@HammerheadModelMaking bummer, but at the same time if you're anything like me, the show is the fun, the awards are just a nice bonus. Still a killer looking model regardless :)
I know I'm late to the party, but the FW-190 A8/r2 was (as I understand it) designed to be a high-altitude interceptor. It had a lot of additional armor, especially around the cockpit and the canopy (hence, the extra canopy plate). The nose guns were faired over, and it relied on the big 'ole 2mm wing cannons. This is just my understanding. If I am wrong, please feel free to correct me.
I love the extended format. I have been thinking of using watercolors for washes, and they do look really good. You say you thinned Vallejo Model Air with Mr Self Levelling thinner, doesn't this gum up or something?
Wish more people would do “full build”
Really helpful for beginners! Thank you 👍🏻😃
Glad it was helpful!

The piece you placed on the underside is a radio antenna used to find and direct the aircraft by ground crew
Excellent, thank you for the info!
@@HammerheadModelMaking Google FuG16ZY if you’re interested. Incredible modelling by the way
Hi, thank you for another fantastic video, and fantastic work.
Greatly appreciate the paint recommendations!! I'll for sure check out the Ammo Mig colors, that is a range I like to use.
nicely presented video kept me interested right to the end , i have the same problem with flesh tones and do the same as you, its great to watch your techniques as i am basically a novice with planes , i started with Armour to develop my skills but similar but not the same , cheers Hammerhead look forward to your next installment
Awesome, thank you for watching!!
Very nice like how detailed it was. Keep it up pleasev
Thank you very much!
Thank you for watching and thanks for the insight on German colors and the decals, much apprecaited!
Another great build, Brett. I like the longer format too.
Are you going to do another viewer showcase video this year? Keep up the good work mate.
Hi, thanks, yes, but it will be a little later this year!
I think I spent about 3-4 weeks on this one, including the overall scene.
done the staff car in civilian colours , two tone black and maroon , came out quite good .
Nice! That sounds cool!
absolutely gorgeous, i love it. only the radio antenna seems off, with the canopy open / back, the antenna wire would have some slack to it. great build nonetheless!
Yeah, there may be some slack in the antenna when the cockpit is open, I didn't really research that all that much to be honest!
Excellent video. Nice tips.
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic video! Many thanks
Thank you for watching!
Excellent FW190 work. As for your figures, they look much more human than mine. Mine have a zombie look .👍👏
Ha ha, thanks. Trust me, I've had my fair share of zombie looking figures!
Love watching all the build well done 👍
Awesome, thank you!
The main thing for me is that if you're doing 1/72, I won't bother watching. At my age with my eyesight it's too small for me to build.
When it comes to length, I like the longer videos. I think I've spent over 3 hours watching two of your videos this evening and enjoyed every minute (B1 and
FW 190).
Nice, thanks for watching!! Either of those Tamiya kits sound like good additions to your collection.
Glad you have your system for the Eduard Decals! And thanks for the feedback!
very nice setup of diorama...
Thank you! Cheers!
@@HammerheadModelMaking Look forward to that whenever you decide to build it.
yeah wonder full build great video format as well
Also how good is the Tamiya panel liner
take one with small weehl . is so mutch easyer to use. the nummer of the theets ar nesesery important is the quality and size ! :) i byed for first the master tool rivetor cheep does the job but now i know how hard it is to scrib with such a big weehl a smaller was wey easyer for the small detail work.
Thank you, Tamiya panel liner isn't bad, but I don't often use it, I prefer Ammo Mig panel liners or an oil wash.
MASTERPIECE! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!
@@HammerheadModelMaking You deserve It
So beautful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback Christian!
The decals, that was amazing..!! Does only Eduards models have that kind of decals? Best regards from Venezuela
As far as I know, yes, they are unique in this regard.
Oh, in terms of the unknown piece in 57:06 I believe that's called a Morane-Type antenna for the FuG 16 YZ radios.
Thanks for letting me know!
Longer videos are better to cover all your steps on a build. I love watching them, among other videos, and applying those techniques to my own builds.
Thank you so much for the feedback!
great video dude
Thanks for the visit!
WOOO NEW BUILD VIDEO
Ha ha! Thanks!
Brett that is gorgeous. Thoroughly well done and a great video, length wise was great.
What was the ground effect you used?
Thank you! The ground effect is called SceneMaster Dark Brown Ground Cover, its ground up foam.
amazing video
Thanks for the visit!
Did you take this model to Salt Lake? How'd it do?
I did take it, but it did not receive any recognition.
@@HammerheadModelMaking bummer, but at the same time if you're anything like me, the show is the fun, the awards are just a nice bonus. Still a killer looking model regardless :)
Good build.
Thank you!
That was exactly my understanding as well!
I love the extended format. I have been thinking of using watercolors for washes, and they do look really good. You say you thinned Vallejo Model Air with Mr Self Levelling thinner, doesn't this gum up or something?
I may have miss-spoke in my voice over if I said MLT, I meant to say Tamiya X-20a for thinning Vallejo.
@@HammerheadModelMaking thanks for the clarification.
The black " lightning" bolts were origionally matching condor heads.
Ahh, very cool!
@@HammerheadModelMaking you do very nice work!
Very good build, but one thing. With the open canopy, shouldn’t the radio wire more loose than stretch?
Like the tip on watercolours with dish soap.
Thats a good question and to be honest I'm not 100% sure on how much slack should be in the radio wire! More research needed for next time!
