Hi. I'm a super beginner. I was an IT for more than 8 years, and then I joined the Content team, making magazines, books etc. Then I got retrenched after a year during the first pandemic lockdown. I heard about the Power BI and I want to master it before my upcoming interview sometime in December. Having a Power BI is one of the requirements. Hope this video helps me a lot, going through it right now and downloading the files. Thanks Avi.

Amazing and comprehensive tutorial! My first experience with Power BI saw me jump right into the reports and visuals phase and soon hit road blocks because of no modeling and DAX experience. Just my 2 cents, if we are planning to learn something to accelerate our careers during work time it’s never going to happen! Believe me ! Moreover it’s the the time we dedicate to what we are supposed to do even though it means spending time on sharpening our skills to do the same job better. Unless we can’t find to dedicate and learn outside our work/college hours imho , i Dont think we will ever learn but keep procrastinating with excuses on why we couldn’t learn. So my friend schedule 30 mins each day after work, strictly, just to enhance your knowledge, every single day… I’m sure you will wonder why we didn’t start and plan this appropriately earlier

Very well done, so easy to grasp the terms with your teaching style. I took a BI Bootcamp 6 years ago with Pragmatic works but really never used PBI on the job, so I forgot everything. I tried watching some of their tutorials to relearn it and they were sleepers. I was actually able to sit through this entire hour taking notes and working along side with you pain free! Thanks!

Rewatched this after 3 weeks for refresh, still find this the best fundamental after so many other PowerBI introduction. Avi defines the "table relationship" and the "kitchen" that none other has ever talk about. I had used MS Access, so this is super familiar and easy to grab for me, but without Avi's explanation, most beginner will be scratching head on what the heck are those lines about.

Hi! This is a great introduction to Power BI, even though your program in the video isn't the latest version any more. I've run into a problem with cleaning up a datasheet where various data in one column should be in separate columns and I can't seem to figure out how to split it nicely. There's obviously a lot of other data in the same query. Do you have a video that could help with this or maybe your a reply on your own?

Dude you rock !!! Awesome tutorial, I gotta tell you you have streamlined the session from back end to front end reporting wisely sharing enough time for the back end transformation/ Edit. Although would like to see some scheduling and automation of reporting... may be you have it on a diff link, if so please do share. To me seems like a hybrid MS Access with a built in visualization far more advanced (leaps and bounce). Also please share power BI edit on SQL tables.... would like to see the data type parsing from DB to ETL layout. Thank you once again for the great work.

One thing that would be nice for you to share is how to combine unlimited Excel files into the data model through Power Query. For example, a customer has an Excel file for each month and they store these files in a single folder. They want to bring in all current and future added Excel files into Power BI's data model without editing the Power Query each time. I have seen how you can combine the Excel files and all future added files together into Power Query in Excel, so I am going to try to do the same and hope it works in Power BI.

Great tutorial - I’ve seen some clips of Avi’s tips before and have used PBI for awhile now, but there were several modeling basics covered in this video that I’ll use to tighten up my praxis. For example, this is the first clear explanation I’ve seen of what’s inside PBI service, how ‘dataset’ = data model, which I can use to create different kinds of reports for users, all based on the same model.
Also, AVI’s explanation of “row vs filter context” was the first one I’ve heard that didn’t leave me frustrated and more confused. I got the feeling that with more review and practice building measures and calculated columns, I’ll get it down quicker now.

According to Microsoft (powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/updated-ribbon-experience-for-power-bi-desktop/) : "In the new ribbon, you may have noticed that the “Modeling” tab has fewer buttons. Now, if you want to modify the structure, properties, or apply formatting to tables, columns, and measures, these options will appear as contextual tabs when you select a field in the fields list." . But I tried clicking on the column but I don't see any such buttons anywhere. If anyone does figure this out, please let us know. Thank you.
