My Hopes & Predictions For Super Mario Bros Wonder!

- At the last Nintendo direct Nintendo FINALLY announced a brand new Mario game in the form of Super Mario Bros Wonder! It’s been nearly 6 years since the last mainline title, super mario odyssey, was released, so I’ve been very excited for this game. The original trailer showed off a ton of new stuff like playable Daisy and yoshi along with the new elephant power-up. Today I want to talk about my predictions for the game including some hidden characters, the wonder seeds, power-ups, and more! So join me today as I give my hopes and predictions for super mario bros wonder!

One thing I want to return, is the Mario vs Luigi Mode from NSMB DS.
It's a Multi-player VS mode where Mario and Luigi compete to get the most stars. It will be very interesting to see this mode expanded with more Power ups, Levels, and even Characters.

This is more of a hope than a prediction but we can see that in the trailer that Yoshi acts more like Nabbit in NSMBUD with him not being hit by the bullet bills in the 4 Yoshi scene. I hope that there's an option to swap this invincible mode to a more traditional mode to fit the other characters because Yoshi is my favourite character while Daisy is my sister's favourite so if we can play similarly together, it will be perfect.
I dont think yoshi get touch by the bullet tho
I think Yoshis will have some abilities but cannot use powerups aside from the Super Mushroom to restore their heights
Daisy already has a special ability, the Double Jump in Super Mario Run so doesn't need to borrow Peach's float. I'm so happy she's playable in another mainline, a BIGGER mainline.

at 11:28 there's a counter for three purple 10-coins, and they look to be seen in similar places to star coins
Yeah, and it looks like the wonder seeds are just for beating the stage and doing the wonder flower thing.
@@TheZestyCoderSo while it WILL be an 100% completion incentive… star coins will still exist in the form of purple coins. Maybe they’re splitting up star coins into two, like how Super Mario 3D World took 3D Land’s Star Medals and made Green Stars + a stamp.
I think Daisy will have superior muscle power over the other playable characters, the trailer shows how easily she can push large objects.
She's seen pushing against the Pusher Koopa but other than that not really anything, though I do agree strength could be her ability

I think the elephant power up will work like you kill enemies easily but you can't jump or have a much lower jump
Elephants cannot jump so I'm betting it doesn't even allow the smallest of hops. Which, in a 2D Mario platformer, would make it too unwieldy if it can be used in levels not specifically designed around it.
@@gengarzilla1685 yeah, elephants indeed can't jump, but like you said it would be near unusable in every level, so I think either we have a small jump or there's something in those levels that would allow us to continue forward anyway.
that aside, I think elephant power-up would be temporarily, like at the end of the level you would lose it. Because it'll be a challenge to get on the flagpole itself if you're a heavy elephant, let alone beat an entire game with it.
I think the elephant powerup could worl more like transformations from Yoshi's Island, so yeah just a temporary powerup with limitations
This might not happen but I would LOVE for them to bring in as many power ups as possible and just go crazy with it
They’re already going crazy with this game. There’s even a powerup that turns you into a spiky ball

The "Purple 10-Coins" seems to also act like Star Coins, as there's 3 per level.

Daisy actually has a unique ability that made its debut in Super Mario Run!
In Super Mario Run:
• Mario is the all-rounder.
• Luigi has a higher jump.
• Peach has float.
• Toad has a faster run speed.
• Yoshi has Flutter Jump.
...but most importantly...
• Daisy has a *_double jump!_*
Can’t forget Odyssey Central will always hope for Dry Bones to appear
10:21 When I saw the Wonder Seed being given at the end of the level, it made me think that the first Wonder Seed could end up acting as a checkpoint and the end of the level. I believe that the 10 Purple Coin will act as Star Coins instead.
Less of a prediction and more of just me hoping for it:
I *really* wanna see the koopa shell power up from NSMB DS. That one’s my favorite and the different playable characters could even get their own shell colors like when they would use the shells in 3D world

I would love the challenges to return - great addition for replayability!
Predictions:
1. Wario shows up in the middle of the game for a boss fight that takes the fight from SML2 and turns it into something weird and new. Wario could try shoulder bashing you, but instead if hitting a wall, he keeps on dashing on the walls and on the ceiling, or he could use some of his transformations from Wario Land, and for the final phase, he becomes Elephant Wario. Once you defeated Wario he becomes a playable character. He basically functions like how he does in Wario Land 4.
2. We’ll get more Flower power ups in the game, like a Lightning Flower or a Wind Flower.
3. Bowser Jr will be every miniboss you fight, but each fight has something really different about it that makes them all unique.
4. Bowser will either get a more monstrous form from whatever Jr’s been infected with, or he’ll use the Elephant power-up and become a mammoth like how when he used the Super Bell he became more of a tiger than a cat.
5. Dry Bowser will be the secret boss of the inevitable World 9.

I have a prediction: Every character has their own set of variations. Mario has Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi. Peach has Daisy, Rosalina, and possibly Pauline. Yellow Toad has Blue Toad, Purple Toad, and Green Toad. Yoshi has Blue Yoshi, Yellow Yoshi, and Red Yoshi

I'm predicting that when we have to face off against Bowser, he turns in a caterpillar in the first phase with his second phase being a butterfly. I'm also predicting that the bosses either will involve the Koopalings using Wonder effects like jr. or we have to fight all new bosses that'll be inspired by Alice in Wonderland characters like the Mad hatter or the Chesire cat.

For the elephant power up I could see it being semi character exclusive maybe every character gets their own animal which either all have the same abilities of have different abilities.
Honestly that would be pretty cool, but Nintendo would have to work around what everyone would get, so it doesn’t attract “certain” artists. Hell, I’m sure that there’s been at least a million elephant fanarts done already.

So far I haven't seen anyone point this out but Daisy jumped on a cheep cheep while she was under water. I don't think that is normally possible, wouldn't you take damage.

That is possible in other Mario games, it’s just not something you’d normally do since you’d have to go out of your way to do it.
The truth the idea of having mario, yoshi, donkey kong and wario with their peculiarities in the same game has always tickled me. practically endless ways to finish the levels and endless secrets. in such a sense the ad personam power up would make sense
I think everyone does have unique abilities. If you look closely in the snow world scene Luigi legs are doing the floaty swing thing.

It’s probably just a level gimmick but the trailer makes me think that the ability to push the pipe against the chuck is a Daisy exclusive thing, and that she’ll be somehow stronger than the rest of the characters.

I want the hammer suit to return. It is unlikely but it is one of the best 2d Mario power ups just behind the ice flower and the blue shell

I imagine that if Nintendo does decide to give them special abilities, the ones you said for the other four are most likely gonna happen, and as for Daisy, I imagine that she'd have a strength ability. What I think would be cool is if Daisy and Mario would be the only characters that could push heavy objects. Since Mario is an all-around character, it makes sense that he'd be included as well.

I always thought yoshi would be a power up, letting the different characters turn into a yoshi, possibly through a wonder flower event, with them being the colors of the characters(red for Mario, green for Luigi, so on)

Something interesting to point out-
There was a very old Mario anime called “Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Save Princess Peach”, and in that anime, Mario and Luigi found a caterpillar creature similar to the one found on Luigi’s back in the cover art. It’s revealed at some point that the caterpillar was actually a prince that had a spell put on him, set up to marry Princess Peach.
And he was the prince of the Flower Kingdom.
I don’t know if they’re really going to call back to a Japanese anime that’s nearly almost 50 years old, but it’s really interesting if these are coincidences.

@@courage1363 Wario has been. I mean he even hijacked Mario Land to make it his own series. But yeah he definitely doesn't need Mainline Mario games. He's got 2 series on his own, one of which got a new game revealed alongside Wonder. And Waluigi is never gonna be in a game that doesn't also have Wario since the sole purpose of his creation was to be a tag along for Wario. He should just appear in Warioware or Wario Land instead, idk why they keep him away from those
@@courage1363neither daisy did, as a playable character actually. Wario was a villain in "mario land 2 six golden coins", and since is canon that waluigi is his sidekick, whynnot implementing them? As a DLC too is possible.
This game just looks like it has amazing game feel. I just know it’s gonna feel great to move Mario and gang around this whimsical new world.
Glad to see Odyssey acknowledging Blue Toad supremacy.
Also love how Yoshi's animation in the trailer looks like he's grunting, putting a lot of effort into the flutter jump as his schnozzle turns a light red.
If the Koopalings made it into this game, I would be ecstatic. Unpopular opinion, I know, and they would need new abilities and interesting fights to make their appearance justified. But even still, I hope Nintendo adds them.
I'm generally just tired of seeing them, yeah. I'd like if they go the SM3DW route and mostly make new bosses. No Boom Boom or Pom Pom either, I just don't get Nintendo's obsession with the SM3 midboss and his ninja girlfriend.
It'd be cool if they used the wonder seeds in their boss fights, that could be a way to give them new abilities and interesting fights

I have a prediction concerning the challenge mode or gameplay like that. There have been other things in past 2D games such as coin rush from NSMBWii and the Challenge Packs that got really popular in one of the games after that (I think it was NSMB2, but I could be wrong). Anywhom, instead of Nintendo bringing back Challenge Mode specifically like they had in NSMBU, they’ll probably throw their own spin on it. I don’t know how enjoyable that might be, but it would at least give more content that could be worth going back to the game even after you beat it, like you had mentioned with the challenges from NSMBU.
My prediction is if you can choose what color Yoshi you want and it's not linked to player number, then I wouldn't be surprised if each color got their respective shell abilities from SMW

i love 2d mario’s games more than 3d (mostly personal bias) and i’m so excited i do hope the koopalings make an appearance as bosses but affected by the wonder flower like bowser jr
In my ideal version, each character would have an ability. Yoshi’s flutter jump, mario could have a permanent >>>P (whatever you call it) from SMB3, Luigi’s high jump, toad’s get speed, and the princesses floating. This would open the door for a potentially having wario come in with either a punch attack or a mini-pow type ground pound.
I have a feeling from the design of Bowser Jr. It appears to be dark bowser's color which means they are probably possessed, in addition Bowser Jr. also instead of having his normal mask it appears to of become a mouth which makes me think he was either taken over or has gained some sort of dark power

I’m pretty sure the big purple coins will be the replacement of star coins, as in the trailer you can see a counter of them appearing in the top right, showing there are 3 of them.

I think that we won't be getting any special character traits, and that Yoshi will in fact NOT be playable either. Rather, the characters will become Yoshi through a powerup or a wonder seed event
5:32 Erm akshually, Red Toad has a red vest. That's just regular Toad. Anyway, I really hope characters get specific abilities and it's not just Yoshi who gets special treatment. For Daisy, I could see her getting a double jump as a unique move.

If they could only have one extra new character in Wonder, could it be Wario? Please? His Shoulder Bash and Wrestling moves (Mega Toss, Swingding, Piledriver) would be an awesome inclusion, and it would really round out the cast!
I could see Yoshi operating kind of like nabbit, in a way where all the other characters have the same abilities, but Yoshi gets his flutter jump and tongue, but the draw back is here doesn’t get to use powerups
I wonder if alongside a challenge mode, the devs will also include a Vs. mode. I have a few ideas as to what that could be:
There will be four match length options: 1 round, 3 rounds, 5 rounds, and unlimited.
1. Race to the Finish
This mode is the simplest to understand. Players race each other throughout a course to reach the goal. The player who reaches the goal first wins. This is inspired from the multiplayer Vs. mode in Super Mario Maker 2. Scoring will work kind of like Mario Kart in that you’ll receive points based on your placing: 1st place gets 5 points, 2nd gets 3, 3rd gets 2, and 4th gets 1.
2. Coin Battle
This will work in the same sort of way as in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and U. In this mode, players traverse through courses while nabbing as many coins as they can. When the players reach the end, their coins will be tallied based on coins collected, extra collectibles collected, and another bonus based on flagpole scoring. The player with the most coins in the final tally wins.
3. Star Thief
This is based on the Mario Vs. Luigi mode from New Super Mario Bros. In this mode, players scramble to get as many stars as they can in micro courses. The player with the most stars wins.
4. Free-for-All
This mode is like the coin battle mode, but instead of fighting for coins, you fight for score. This is made to give score a bit of a purpose in the modern age of gaming.
5. Mixed Match
This mode has players do the previous modes of competitive multiplayer at random. The name in itself is a nod to the same mode that is featured in Tetris and Dr. Mario.
If something like this were implemented, it could appeal to the more competitive players. Too bad it doesn't seem like this game will support online multiplayer though.
If anything, I’d like this to be a game style option for a potential Mario Maker 3. Excellent video!

You know Daisy has the double jump in Super Mario Run. No need to be a Peach clone.
Something that bugs me about the Mario games is how the playable Toads are Blue Toad and Yellow Toad. Why can’t it be Toad and Toadette? And have the Toad’s Houses be the ones with Blue Toad and Yellow Toad. Maybe this is a feature for a future Mario game. I really hope so.
I'm just glad that they are taking a break from the "New Super Mario Bros" naming scheme

One of the things I wanted since I saw the trailer is to have Wario and Waluigi as mini bosses in this game, a lot of the environment is similar to their aesthetics and tones and plus it can make sense within the story since there seems to be some mind control happening with the antagonists.
You can even make them playable after you beat them as an unlockable player

Watching this back after the game is out and me beating the game is actually really interesting to me. you got some stuff right on the money but some other stuff was WAY off, classic Odyssey
Heres my own prediction: The unlockable Wonder World stages (star coin in other games) will each feature a separate Super Mario Bros. Game series aesthetic.
Like Wonder world one will look 8 bit and Super Mario Bros, the second stage will have the aesthetic of Super Mario Bros. 2 (doki doki panic version) and so on, all the way to the last level which will feature an Illumination Mushroom Kingdom feel to it.

It turns out he's actually blue in that game. HOWEVER!
In the Super Mario All-Stars version he has his standard colors, so red toad is indeed playable.
a lot of bowser reminds me so much of dr e gadd, his new technology (his castle being coated in metal with pistons and the bullet bills being replaced with rocket ricks tm) and the castle having his signature hairstyle. i dont know if this will happen, but it would be pretty cool although i can see it just as well being a coincidence.
