Best Carp Rig (how to tie a hair rig for carp fishing)

- How to tie the best carp rig for carp fishing beginners. This is called a hair rig tied using a knotless knot.
When searching for carp fishing rigs, you will find hundreds or options. This easy carp rig has been tested for years, and is a sure fire way to put big fish on the bank.
To tie this hair rig for carp, you will need a strong, high quality hook in size 2-6. It is extremely important that you use a high quality hook. Carp are very strong and powerful, and have a tendency to straighten out or snap low quality hooks.
Next, you will need braided line, or specialty hook-link material to make the leader section of the rig.
Tie a small loop in one end of a section of braided line/hooklink, and slide the tag end through the back side of the eye of the hook.
Next I show how to tie a knotless knot by wrapping the line around the shank of the hook.
Finally, complete your rig by attaching a strong swivel to the free end of your braided line/hooklink.
I show you how to tie a palomar knot to attach your swivel in the demonstration. The palomar knot is probably the best easy knot to tie when using braided line.
Make sure to use a heavy weight when fishing this carp hair rig. The weight actually helps to hook the fish.
This rig can be used to fish many different carp baits. The best carp bait varies depending on your location, but a good starting point is corn, chick peas, or any type of nut. Pre-made carp boilies are also very effective.

Pro tip if you don't have a baiting needle and dont wanna wreck a hook just slide the corn on the hook on the rig, past the barb, and then put the hair rig against the barb and just slide it off the hook

Can i use a braid to braid set up or must it be mono or flouro to braid?
I legit just put corn on the hook... works everytime lol. use a catfishrod with a heavty baitcaster, never lost a fish. I use 60-100lb rates swivles aswell. My weight goes on right after the swivel, its simply fixed, and if you snag you can break off at the swivel with your 20lb fluro leader.
That homemade baiting needle is useful for putting line back through catfish worms too.
do you put pack bait around your Sinker or is the pink corn the only bait you use

Awesome I want to start fishing for carp! Sorry if this is common knowledge but should my leader line be weaker than my mainline so I dont lose my whole rig? I am going to start using method feeders but I dont want to lose them
Normally the mainline is monofilament or fluorocarbon in 12-30lb test while the leader is typically 15-50lb braid or hooklink. I think your best bet is to find a cheap source for method feeders since if you go any lighter with the line you risk losing a carp of a lifetime.

I'd advise you to use components that are camouflaged, it will land you more carp, light green,dark green, black and lighter shaded blacks, and browns would help you land more fish and I'd use fluorocarbon or camouflage monofilament as your mainline, good luck guys 🇬🇧 ✊🏼

You can do that however hair rigs have many advantages. Better hook up rate, better hook placement and less likely to get stolen by bluegill.
if you don't wanna mangle a hook or you don't have soft enough hooks to bend you can make a baiting needle out of a toothpick really easy and you can even use the same toothpick as ur baitstop if you really want to

Yes, but some people do like running rigs where the weight is free.
why is this rig specific to carp? will it catch any other fish?

Mainly people us braid as there rig cause its stronger than normal line
But would suggest using braid as ur rig and fluorocarbon as main
Why do you use what looks like braid as the leader? Couldn't you use fluorocarbon, in which case it would be less visible?
Carp have very sensitive mouths. They go by what they feel. That's why the hair rig is used. They feel only the bait, then swallow the bait and the hook then follows and hooks em. If you put bait on the hook a lot of times they sense it and spit it out. Lots of vids on here that show it.

So the weight is only there to help cast? I thought it was supposed to help set the hook?
This is basically a specialized Carolina rig. The line passes through the weight without taking the weight. The weight is there for keeping the rig still on the bottom of the river/creek and acting as a stop for the leader portion to rest against. Setting the hook is done by rod action and the weight will help set the hook when it's picked up when the slack is taken out of the line.
That just to help u throw and keep ur rig in the ground so it wont move around

16-50lb braid is common for the hook link.

Lol, pick a good spot and you will catch carp with this rig. Way more effective than bait placed on the hook.
