On to the rig just tied one with the gripper and shrink tube and again mega impressed can't wait to get out Friday to try it out
I second that with regards to ESP hooks. I have nothing but their hooks in my box now after trying the grippers last year. I like the size 7 as not too big and not too small. Just right
I've used a rig very similar to this about 2 years. I love the quick change option it gives (like with a multi rig). In my case I've used a kicker in order to lock the D instead of Silicone tubing but the tubing might very well be better to be honest cause I'm guessing that will grip the D a bit tighter and therefore maybe prick the fishes mouth a little bit harder. Kicker works though. I've mostly used it with small baits such as tigernuts and dumbell wafters.
Tied up one of these to try out, caught on it Saturday night and it was never falling off. Will definitely be using it more as love how easy to tie and change the hook is
@@billydelahaye611 I have found the best way is to get the end of the tube touching the eye of the hook then push and gentle twist the tube as you do.This seems to help it slide over the eye a little easier
Top rig Mikey! Just got back from France after putting all 3 rods on this rig trying different presentations. My 55lb mirror fell to a pineapHell pop up with monster red and particle. Doing it for the SW. cheers mucker
I find it interesting that some rig philosophies completely contradict each other yet both work. Take, for example, the difference between this rig, and a standard bottom bait wafter rig. The idea of using a critically balanced wafter rig is for the hook to be super light and go farther back into the fishes mouth. In contrast, this rig adopts the idea of using added weight (putty) and a heavy hookbait to pull into the fishes lower lip. Both kinds of rigs would be fished in the same scenarios, both kinds of rigs do really well, but they have completely different approaches. This makes me want to see more high quality underwater footage testing different rigs like this.
They all contradict each other to create maximum manies in the pocketos. Take the Ronnie for example, showing the hook to be almost vertical. Yet in another rig video it’ll state no nooooooo the hook MUST be floating more horizontal, and just about every angle in between 🙄🙄🙄 Top sales pitches all round
The concept for me and why I use it is a hook that swings below any bait, like a claw mate. Then the force of the bait being blown down the shank certainly helps set the hook, even when carp arent moving to tighten up the hook links. :)
Sometimes I can use the hook after catching a fish but when in doubt it comes off, really quick change, I also pre make the baits on a ring with floss, I like to do as much prep at home as I can so less faff on the bank. New hooks and bait goes on night before for next day session. Arrive, and rods are in within 10 minutes. Nice little rig setup this.
I use slip d in my solid bag fishing and on my wafters like the idea of the tubing good little edge as you say we can clearly see looks deadly with a snowman 🎣🎣

Hi Mike interesting rig and will give a go, one thing which might be a silly question but do you cut the silicon tube to any specific length, enjoyed the video. 😊
Just tied one up and put it in my rig safe I’m not sure I like the overhand knot though so did figure of 8 it seemed strong on the pull test looking forward to trying it out
Think I might give this a whirl. I like to use new rigs for every session, and have a cacophony of rigs in my board, some used, some not, some, who knows. This would simplify my fishing: What's not to like about that? All I'd need is a bunch of different length boom sections, then I can select a hook and a bait mounting method. It's similar to my favourite german rig, mechanically Job done.
Hi Mike , coming back to this rig after using blowback rigs for a while. Just trying it as they’re so much easier to tie. Quick question, do you ever worry about the lack of ability to have a longer hair for bigger fish or longer rigs, or do you find this really makes no difference? Thanks man.
Hi Mate, I've never had any issues at all, in fact I've just got back from a European trip and I've been using it with a 24mm bottom bait and 15mm topper, tight and the big fish are always hooked perfectly also. It's down to the D not being pulled to far back I feel mate so the bend of the hook is always heavy and hanging down like a claw. Good luck with it.
Fishing a tricky lake with picky carp....i have always used a standard knotless knot. With braid or even fluro. Caught my pb of 32lb on a fluro hooklink and hair. (In france) this looks like a good simple rig to use..
It doesn't mate, the weight of the bait keeps it in place, never had any issue with it spinning or flipping. Like you say, if worried pop a PVA nugget on it ;) Tight lines, cheers Mike
I take it when you catch a fish the loop with travel down the shank and stop at the eye? knocking the tubing off the hook. Most slip d rigs are fixed at the hook. If that makes sense
Have you tried wetting it? It is tight but should go on fairly easily. If it is a fresh piece of silicone maybe give it a good stretch first so it is a bit more 'worn in'. Mike is using a big hook here and it goes on ok so should be easier for size 6's etc.
Hi Nigel, its a tight fit mate, but as long as its the ESP 0.75mm tube I promise it does go over, it takes a little bit of wiggling over the eye but I want it tight on purpose to trap the slip D :) All the best, Mike.

@@BaitworksTV Could you not just tie the PVA mesh bag to the d section with pva tape rather than attaching it to the hook? Also how d you prevent the D section from tangles after cast or fish pick up?
Hi Ian, sorry you are having trouble. It is a bit tight getting it on at first, but after that is a lot easier. If you can't get it on maybe go for the next size up in silicone tubing? You should be able to return the 0.75mm stuff. Mike uses large hooks size 4 or 2, so it should be easier on a 5, 6 or 4?
Try with dry hands and really take it from side to side as well as the pushing onto the eye motion. Whats the max size boilies u use with a snowman on this rig. I’m just wondering if I use and 18 and 15 like i normally do is it going to effect the hooking capabilities with the bait being so close to the hook? Thanks
It definitely goes over, although a bit tricky the first time. A few people said it was a bit tough at first but we’ve checked it and it’s definitely the right measurement. Hi Jamie, Its a tight fit but a mate uses it with the size 4 muggas and it does go over, you almost have to wiggle it over the eye. It's only the ESP 0.75mm tube that seems flexible enough, other 0.75mm tube seems too tight mate. cheers Mike
Hi Thomas.. To attach a bait, you want to thread some bait floss through the little swivel which is attached to the hook. You then put your bait on a baiting needle, straight through the centre, and then with the same needle pull the two strands of floss through the centre of the bait. Then you want to put your hair stop on top and tie a few knots in the floss trapping the hair stop. Hopefully this helps..
Talk about eagle eyed! We do green scissors too.. I am sure we just grabbed whatever was to hand. Never just take one pair of scissors in case you lose them! haha
Hi Mike, been getting some bank time with slip Ds and this multi version. Would you also use this for a bottom or double bottom bait? Something you seem to do different to most is stop the d in line with the point. Which actually makes perfect sense to me, however where would you position it if using a double bottom bait (no buoyancy) further down hook? Near bend
Hi Mate, sorry for the delay, I use it exactly the same with all baits, pop ups (rarely use them) right through to baits hard on the deck, the rig has always performed really well. I like the hook bend to be heavy, I find D's further down the shank prevent this, hope that helps mate.
It does fit mate, it's a tight push and requires a wiggles to get it over the eye but I've used it on hooks as big as a size 2 mate without any issues, like I say its tight but thats how I want it to keep it all in place. Cheers Mike.
Hi Mike, I use a similar rig but always tie figure 8 loop knots, is there any reason you use overhand knots? I'm guessing you have never had any trouble with the knots??
How does that overhand loop hold? Not a strong knot at all! I’d use that for making a small loop for a hair only. Looks to me that once a fish on the hook will pull to the end of the loop and all the weight is just on that weak loop knot?
Hey mate cracking video, I'm currently using shrink tube to get the same outcome you have using silicone tubing, what tubing are you using most the ones I've seen are too small internal diameter to go over the eye of the hook. cheers

Then you want to put your hair stop on top and tie a few knots in the floss trapping the hair stop. Hopefully this helps..

I like the hook bend to be heavy, I find D's further down the shank prevent this, hope that helps mate.
what size hook and pattern was you using with this rig I want to give it a try this autumn .
I'm wondering the same as he mentioned every other component apart from the hook
Curve shank, in a size 4 or a 2 works perfectly.
Which hooks, and what size do you use please. I've bought some esp 0.75mm silicone. Unfortunately none of my hooks are having it 😫
It does fit mate, it's a tight push and requires a wiggles to get it over the eye but I've used it on hooks as big as a size 2 mate without any issues, like I say its tight but thats how I want it to keep it all in place. Cheers Mike.
@@BaitworksTV Thanks Mike. I will persevere 🤣👍
@@hopingowen Just push it onto one side and stretch it over the other mate. Once you get the knack you'll be away :)
@@BaitworksTV Sorted thanks guys
Hi Mike, I use a similar rig but always tie figure 8 loop knots, is there any reason you use overhand knots? I'm guessing you have never had any trouble with the knots??
Hi Brett, exactly that mate, never had an issue with the overhand knot mate. All the best
How does that overhand loop hold? Not a strong knot at all! I’d use that for making a small loop for a hair only. Looks to me that once a fish on the hook will pull to the end of the loop and all the weight is just on that weak loop knot?
It holds fine with heavy braid since it doesn't constrict. Quite a lot of decent carp anglers use it when I watch their rig tying videos.
Hey mate cracking video, I'm currently using shrink tube to get the same outcome you have using silicone tubing, what tubing are you using most the ones I've seen are too small internal diameter to go over the eye of the hook. cheers
Hi Sean, I use a 0.75mm esp silicone but if your struggling to get it over the eye then the 1mm would be perfect. All the best, Mike
Mark Bryant ?
Hi mare which hook are you using and size please
What hook is it?
Literally impossible to get that 0.75 silicone on to a size 4 hook
I use the ESP 0.75mm silicone and size 4 curve shanx and it goes on fine for me. I just wet it and twist it over the eye.
I have a mistake: i can’t put silicon tube 0.75 on ring eye!. Impossible. To much smaller the 0.75
From my tests it doesn't actually pull down on h hook on ejection...the whole lot flies out and doesnt catch the lip...!!
You are exactly right ...the hook and bait doesn't react as he says at all or ever..
@CastAirLead He's used it in his own mouth lol
Ive been using this rig for about 4 weeks
ive had a few carp but the last 2 days ive lost 5 carp
I dont know why
i have put new hooks on every time
any ideas
Hi! Bad luck. Hard to say what is happening without knowing more. What hook and bait size are you using? Did you lose 5 fish and land none? Thanks
Could this be used for barbel
Yes mate, indeed.
Made my rigs up done 5inch stripped loop with the position of the barbel mouth
Good !
