The story is always the main character. Both cameras have their strengths. I like the Dji Action 4's image more than the GoPro, but it's about what you like. To be honest, the GoPro Hero 12 looks good. But the colors are more correct on action 4. I think many had hoped for more when it comes to hero 12. But some improvements are better than none, GoPro did a good job. But if I could only choose one, the choice would have fallen on Dji
Yes, both companies have moved forward, and if we're honest the Action 4 wasn't a massive upgrade over the Action 3. So both companies are no doubt testing new hardware, but we need some time before they can actually get it working how they want to. These upgrades as you well said are better than none, much like with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Both cameras are good. However, the audio sounds louder on OA4 and FOV seems a bit wider as well than GPH12. GPH12 image is good but OA4 image looks more "real" (natural). I guess it boils down to reliability, usability/ease-of-use, and personal preference at the end of the day.
Yes, the audio does sound louder on the Action 4, and a little clearer. I'm still getting used to the Hero 12, so I can't talk about reliability yet, however I've had zero problem with it and the battery has been improved, I can feel that. The Action 4 on the other hand is very reliable talking from experience.
There are tons of reviews showing go pros unreliability (random shutting down due to overheating. Waiting time of 4 to 6 seconds when stopping a recording, more noisy than the action pro, the log prof is so vibrant) . Do please share if you've found them
@@serktv6231 Since I bought mine, zero problems. It's not shut down, it's not overheated, it turns off when I want it to, battery life and drainage is MUCH better. Generally seems like a polished GoPro, and am happy I picked it up. Right now, I'd say both are superb action cameras, you can't go wrong with either.

Action 4 is better. GoPro seems to be a bit soft and had more distortion. My monitor is calibrated. Have a strange feeling you mixed up the footage. Action 4 looks more vivid than GoPro 12 except in the shot where the little girl ran
Nope, definitely not. Footage has been correctly tagged, no matter how tired I am, I can still read the file tags 😂 My daughter runs like she’s legging it from the PoPo 🚨

Unless YT is doing something wrong, @6:42 when you turned on 5.3K, I can see spots on your face (don’t worry I have same) but the A4 looks like they turned on beauty mode and your face is smooth and image is soft. @6:42, Mia’s hair on GP looks golden and natural whereas A4 makes the hair look dull. What a cutie you have! As you said at the beginning of the video, both action cams are good enough. GP12 on the way and sticking with A3 and will wait for A5 as I don’t shoot in lowlight but after you showed the GP12 in HDR, it’s still grainy but improved. Not sure if you can remove it with denoiser or not
Impressed with what the standard video looks on the Action 4 without HDR. Even with HDR on the Gopro, they look fairly similar. I also like the wind audio on the Action 4 more.
HDR is not always noticeable. It is more of a setting you through on to see what it will do and turn it off if you don't need it. In this video the HDR did not do much but there are some times that it is a real powerful tool.
Actually, HDR is not the must feature needed, as we lived without it for years and videos were quite Ok. The main thing needed is having more fantastic moments to use any of your cameras - action one, or phone one.
Like the HDR in bright light on the GoPo very much but i tend to feel that the Action 4 is by far a more rounded user friendly action camera that is equal if not better than the GoPo for the every day person that uses one of these type cameras. The DGI just gives great quality and superior reliability in a user friendly package that has been designed for Mr or Miss Normal to use . Fantastic video presentation yet again , thank you
Yes, a lot of people seem to be going with DJI for reliability. It seems GoPro has done some battery work though, and at the end of the day quality wise they seem very similar.
well, obviously Action 4 takes adventage on every single shot. It's just physics - bigger sensor don't lie. More natural dynamic range, and looks like there is more flexibility on grading later. Sometimes gopro HDR doing some great job, but - there is no HDR in higher fragmrates than 25, am I right? Also, Gopro looks more blurry and soft like after some processing, and Action is more raw. I would like to see some testing on editing log footage, and how far they can be pushed. On highlights recovery etc.
The hdr can go up to 30fps. I do need to test the GP-Log a lot more to see what it can actually do, but I think it really shines in sunny conditions. As the for sensor size, during the day they seem very similar, obviously depending on lighting and shadows, where they can both very easily fall apart.
@@PhillipSkraba both are still super tiny, so yep, there are very similar :) but gopro in camera looks like after processing, which can be done with dji later. +50 for clarity, -50 in highlights, some curves. It's good for someone, who doesn't care about postproduction. Action 4 is more Pro than GoPro :)

For what it is worth my feeling is there isn't much in it. To me, the audio was identical, maybe the A4 looked better overall but the slow mo looked better on the H12.
Except for the DJI with blown out highlights, completely over sharpened and crazy lens distortion. Colour science is garbage - over saturated. But China numba wun right?
Both look great! I think DJI still isn't as good as GoPro when there is a lot of camera movement. GoPro 11 and 12 may or may not freeze, depending on who you ask. I've not heard anything about the OA3 and OA4 freezing up, so I switched to DJI (from GoPro HB 7). It's so reliable, it's almost boring now!
Yes, they both excel at different parts of these comparisons, it's up to you guys to decide which parts you'd use the most. I've never had an Action from DJI freeze, in terms of reliability they are amazing.
They're both great action cam and i have both of them. But the things i liked with OA4 is it's very easy to use with its magnetic mount plus the cheaper accessories compare to gopro. And i also have battery issue with hero 12 that is a downside for me since hero 10. The only reason im still using gopro is my loyalty to gopro for almost 8 years since hero 4 my first ever action cam. I hope gopro will catch up in terms of reliability not just in videocamera quality!
Thanks for the comparison Without any doubt i am going for the Action 4. It has better exposed scenes throughout and has better natural color profile than the GoPro. It's wider than the GoPro, it's better and doesn't have that fisheye effect like GoPro It performs better in low light too due to bigger sensor size. It has way better battery backup than GoPro. It has better software experience.way Faster charging speed than GoPro and still is cheaper. Undoubtedly the best value for money❤
My Gopro has arrived but few strange things that i noticed, if i turn my sharpness settings up, the bitrate on the video files goes also up if i turn the sharpness down the bitrate goes also down, on my action 3 it is exactly the opposite low shaprness gives more bitrate high sharpness gives less bitrate and what i also noticed is that the sharpness setting on the gopro 12 has a mutch bigger effect on the standart and hdr color profil but not so strong on the gp-log profil even if i turn it to high it looks like "Medium" on the standart profil. In the comparison it seems like that the dji has more digital sharpening in daytime the gopro cleary wins but low light goes to the action 4
I really keep mine at Medium or Low. As for sharpening, I think both of them have a fair bit going on. If you turn hdr on at night, they become very similar to be honest.
@@PhillipSkraba Yeah i think i will go with medium (90-120Mbps per file), because on low i lose bitrate, (29-60Mbps per file) on "high" i get not mutch more bitrate (100-120Mbps). My Bitrate setting in the Gopro Menu is set to high and i record in 5K8:7. Atm i dont like the HDR after own test 😂 i will use it primarily as my FPV Cam my focus is on the gp-log profil 5K8:7 without stabilization, but with gyro data for post process stabilization. Here wins the Gopro because i can use the full sensor with gyro data on the action 2 and 4 i have to use the wide lens witch is a crop but on the gopro 8:7 wide is not a crop.
@@AirKhanFPVthe hero12 now uses a variable bit rate depending on the need. Low sharpness naturally requires less compression (less tiny details) so bitrate will appear less, but quality will be the same across both!
The GoPro is so orange. I have the Hero 11 but thinking of getting the Action 4 as I live in England and overcast days are way more frequent than sunny days. For the majority I thought the Action 4 looked better, I do love me some slow-mo though so shame it isn't 4K 240fps but 120fps is pretty descent and for the majority of my usage the DJI seems more favourable.
Dji looks better to me, however not enough of a difference for me to upgrade from my Dji action 3. Absolutely no reason to switch to GoPro at all with all its issues.
Does OA4 has option to record videos with turned off screens and all lights/leds? Sometimes don't want questions why i am recording if i stopped somewhere with camera on scooter and need to reply ruining recorded audio with it
DJI OSMO ACTION 4 - Better Exposure, Nice colors, Bigger field of view, LESS distortions, front touch screen, great battery, invisible selfie stick (not perfect btw), BIGGER sensor, BETTER low light! For me it is clear which the better camera is.
Pros and cons both sides, I dropped go pro recently sold it and went action 4. Reason reliability, Go pro unresponsive touch screen freezing and bug issues. Action 4 works no issues a joy to use after owning a go pro. This is the key test for me have you seen these issues continue with the go pro, No point having an amazing action camera that’s temperamental! Great videos buddy keep it up. I said pros and cons actually I can’t think of any cons with the action 4
Delivered as always. Which camera represents your face better? Its either the oa4 squeezed your face thinner & longer. Or gopro compressed your face rounder.

My front lenses were squeaky clean, like my underpants. Both were polished and not touched even once during the filming of this video. However, on that subject, action cameras are made to be dirty, so I think I should have licked them just to make this more authentic.
Not to bash GoPro but my hero 9 made me switch platforms and now I can match my drone footage with my camera footage, I’m very excited for DJI action 4 .
When comparing like this there are some differences, in some cases gopro looks better in some dji, but if you just film on one of these two you just see awesome small camera. I have Action4 and think it's amazing and don't want to buy Hero12. But i'm pretty sure if i'd have 12 i wouldn't want to buy Action4 :-)
GP HDR mode looks surprisingly good in many lighting conditions. I ‘un-cancelled’ my cancelled GoPro subscription and think I’ll give the H12 a chance. Still love the GoPro ecosystem and just hoping that Quik software adds a few of the AI features. That and still betting/hoping that GoPro comes through on a Max 2 by this time next year. A4 looks great and still wins usability. I’m adding Falcam F22 mount system to close the gap. Come on GoPro, please don’t let me down!
Lol, so many people are going back and forth between these two, the truth of the matter is, both are fantastic. I’ve had a GoPro subscription for years, it’s cool. Max 2 is in the works, so looking forward to that!
The Action 4 looks the best. Can we all just appreciate how far DJI has come with their line of action cameras? I’m very impressed with r Action 4 camera especially when you add in its reliability and better battery life. Both cameras are good but the Action 4 is the best.
I am very impressed with how far DJI has come, I mean they started way after GoPro, and my favourite cam of theirs is the Action 2, that thing is perfect, I wish they made an Action 2.2.

The TH-cam compression is so weird! At first I watch this at 1080p (because my monitor is 1080p) and GoPro footage is so mushy. I wonder - how can that be, it's got higher resolution. I watch for several minutes, do some pauses, switch to 1440p - still the same. Hmmm, something with GoPro lens maybe? I switch to 4K - and BAM, wow, now GoPro is sharp and DJI is mushy. Softer than it was in 1080 p. So strange...
Thanks, as always, for the helpful video. The comparison was difficult for me because it seems your face is consistently larger (closer?) on the GoPro side. To me, they both look somewhat out-of-focus at that distance. The default color settings appear “warmer” on the GoPro. It also seems to me that the boosting of the shadows on the DJI cause an overall soft haze that, at first glance, makes me think the lens is dirty. While the skin tones are pleasant enough on both cameras, faces look a bit “airbrushed” on the DJI. While this may be more flattering, it shows less detail, even significantly in your beard. I’m sure the invisistik feature appeals to many people, but it is distracting to me - seems silly to have the hand sticking out in an unnaturally stiff position and holding on to nothing. Well, the GoPro is always going to be cropped in a little, so that's not unusual. I definitely feel like it has soft skin filter, a kind of like you say airbrushed look, it's really weird, and both of them suffer from it depending on the lighting. The invistick is fun, but I'm guessing it's more suited if you have it mounted to a car for example and can't see it's mounting point, that'll give you a cool look. Thanks Bob!
In the filmmaking world, waiting for the next best thing is probably the worst thing you can do. The Action 5, whatever it may be, will no doubt have very little improvements, I’d personally not wait.

Great video thank you! In some ways gopro12 is a bit better, but overall i would choose the action 4. Wish that both companies would offer a trade in value for our current models. This would also help the environment.
Very well made comparison thank you. Does the DJI have the ability to adjust the exposure compensation in video and stills? Some of the sky footage looked a little overexposed so i thought having this feature would be useful. Yes, you can adjust the exposure on both cameras. As for the sky, they both do a good job, and GoPro really holds strong when you turn its hdr feature on. It's a hard choice, I know.
On other videos, the image from GoPro was usually brighter, but here, Action is brighter. Strange. The second thing is that the image on Action is stretched vertically, I mean, the face looks prolonged. Did you notice that?
Go Pro 12 hands down this time. After just buying the GoPro 11, I was trying to convince myself the 12 would not be worth the upgrade but after watching your footage as well as other TH-cam reviewer‘s footage of the 12 versus the DJI, it’s apparent go pro 12, 100% wins this round. The HDR mode quality and the balance between dark and light portions of any screenshot are a game changer.

If you are outdoors with any scattered clouds with the sun peeking in and out, the HDR obtains amazing footage that just adds that “realism” factor that your brain knows is just more “right” but you can’t put your finger on why. That’s when you know HDR is doing its job and from what I am seeing, Go Pro 12 HDR pretty much hit that out of the park.
your weed is too strong bro! do you know that A4 already has in built HDR as well? the colors are more realistic in the A4 plus audio is better as well. the boot up time is much faster. GP wins with slo-mo in 240 fps and 8:7 aspect ratio

Great review, I would say they are really close but IMHO DJI wins when there is less light and in the night but GPH12 wins when sun shines directly into the lens. Started laughing at 15:40 when I heard most common Polish word ;) Łodź ku..a
Awesome comparison. Action 4 audio is clearer and the colors more natural, Hero 12 has too warm colors imho, and the audio looks a bit muffled compared to.

I've watched a few comparisons dji 4 vs gopro 11 and 12 now and I noticed that gopro does a great job with the sky...yes- the SKY.....on DJI videos the sky is usually blurred and slightly overexposed- when at the same time- on go pro - 11 and 12 now- is nicely detailed, sharp clouds etc....
Czesc Maciej! Yes, GoPro seem to do a good job exposing the sky and the subject, mind you DJI do a good job at most parts too. It really depends on the lighting, the auto exposure kicks in at different moments, how important that is to users, well, that's up to them. Pozdrawiam z Lodzi.
Nadal zastanawiam się co kupić niby w jeden dzień jestem zdecydowany na DJI a w drugi na GP 12. Wydaje mi się, że GP12 ma lepszą stabilizację nie rozmywa tak i jest mniej ziarna. Nadal jestem w kropce.
1080p looks better on gopro, but dji looks like vlogging action cam, exposure is more set to face and I can't check it but i think dlog m is better, gplog is so dark i it has a loot of colors, but i cant try which is better to colorgrade. gopro is sometimes too detail, but dji should use gygo compasate exposure, because on you 4k 120 it is blue, shutter is too slow for this action. this distortion is pain in gopro, dji looks normal, true :P but for fun timewarp, startrail etc. gopro is fun toy :D
Yep, they both have their strengths and weaknesses, there is no perfect action camera, but I’m positive both companies are working on fixing that and evolving their products.

Another great video, thanks. It would be cool to see even short compare like Gp7 vs Gp12. A lot of people still got Version 7,8 or 9 and consider to switch but they are not sure is it worth . I do not write here about Stabilization which I bet is way better now but video quality. To be honest I have ver 7 and as I see quality of 12 sample see not much diff which could push me to switch device. Am I wrong?
I’ve been thinking of comparing it to a variety of cameras, and I’ve actually already charged my Hero 7 after a couple of years 🤘🏻 I think the Hero 12 will destroy it in terms of stabilisation. I think it would be a massive upgrade.

It might be me Point o view. 7 Was the first one with hypersmooth and Its still monster Stabilization. As you know our city is full of holes, bumps, broken roads. If not HSmooth ver 1.0 in Gp7 my videos from bicycle would like video from surface of bumping ball . Once I accidentally off it and recorded without Stabilization. It was like footage from hand 109 years old Man. I am confiused only about quality. Do we have ultra improve or only minor changes? Looking only at this aspect is it worth to step forward and switch from 7 to 12 or DJI? Would be nice to see how time change or not action cameras technolog. Gretings.
Have you done a video on Hyperlapse and Timelapse. I have had a Action 3 since March and they are the two things i haven't really got to grips with. I like your videos,they are easy to understand and straight to the point. Are there any tips you can give me please.
No, not yet, but it is on my list as a completely separate video. HyperLapse and TimeLapse are pretty simple. TimeLapse works great if your camera is standing still and you're filming time passing. HyperLapse works great if you're walking about. They both have really great effects and fun uses, I'll make sure to do a comparison soon.
DJI Action 4 always. The RS is okay, but I rarely use it, the Action 4 just feels like a much more polished camera. Insta360 drop the Insta360 Ace soon, I wouldn’t wait for it either…

Is there bike mount in standart combo. In my country, adventure combo is really expensive. So i'm not sure if i need adventure combo
There is a bike mount, but not a bike mount combo. I bought the bike mount and saddle mount myself from DJI as they don't send me everything for free, and they're really great quality. So maybe get the standard version and pick up the bike mount, it's solid.
15:05 shows that the action 4 has a built in HDR. They removed the HDR function and baked it in all their video modes. It took the gopro a while to start showing all the cloud details. but then again in some situations, the gopro still shows more dynamic range. You can actually see shadows on the clouds with the gopro showing more details and making the sky look good, while the action 4 only shows some, its just mostly white.
Well, they stated it’s not needed anymore as they’re increased the dynamic range, so take that as you will. I did notice that the Action 4 did incredibly well in that scene.
@@PhillipSkraba overall I think the gopro has a better video quality. But the uncertainty of it failing and losing videos is the reason why I went with DJI. Reliability over quality any day of the week for me. I hope future gopros will be as reliable or better than DJI so I can go back. And oh! Maybe lose that overly fish eyed look. Lol.

I discovered that when you are standing and there is a bush behind you, I pause the video, then from behind the bush is clearly visible on Action 4 on GoPro, this bush is blurred, and also when you walk near buildings and also press pause, then on Action 4 there is very good sharpness on windows on GoPro there is no sharpness, I am convinced that Action 4 is the best camera
Some interesting comparisons here: 1 - at 0:54 we can see clouds and the antenna on roof on the GP12 unlike the A4. 2 - at 5:07 a lot more details in the background on the A4, why is that? 3 - at 7:15 the GP12 at 120fps have a sharpen image, we see details in your face while it's all smoothed out on the A4. 4- at 14:12 when you turn on the GP12 with zoom in I guess it's 2x? Your text shows 1.4x. Sad the GP12 won't zoom while filming. Could it be an option to avoid bad manipulation? Thanks for your time.
Yes, in some circumstances they expose differently, especially backgrounds. The GoPro does seem more real in slow motion, the Action seems like it makes me prettier and smoothed out. The Hero 12 only allowed for a 1.4x zoom, whereas the Action 4 allows for a 2x zoom. Generally zooming isn't recommended on either of these, it's digital and it's frowned up lol.

Hero 12 over saturated colours, under exposed in a lot of situations and still has inconsistencies with extreme temperature performance. I typically shoot in 2.7k 16x9 to keep file transfers as short as possible. Who uses 5.3k ? Not enough in the Action 4 to get me to upgrade from the Action 3, but if I were to buy now it would be DJI
At 08:45 on and at the 10:10 and on clips, teh Action 4 shows quite a bit of stutter in the background building and trees. It is very noticeable. But you are right, content matters more than the latest camera. I would like to know the file size difference between 4K clips from both cameras and between the H12 at 5K and A4 at 4K. That is a factor for me, as battery life is. Both cameras have pros and cons. I wonder if the A4 lens had some smudging, it shows more flare when backlit. But it could be a dirty lens. The Hero 10 may be the best deal of them all, if money is an issue.
File sizes are pretty similar since I switched it to the smaller size on the Action 4, as they were massive beforehand. Both lenses were super clean when filming, I made sure of that, and yes, I did notice some odd halation, no idea what that was about. As for stutter, yes, in low light, they sometimes fall apart.
Action 3 can zoom in too 💪🏻 I was recording video and found out by accident and got that woooow only because GoPro didn’t have it and I just kept playing with that function like a kin on 25th of December plays with his toys 😂😂😂
Phil, mate could you do testing of mic on both with you behind. As I just compared videos hero10 vs action 3 and action 3 is killing it in a good way, voice isn’t distorted so much as gopro

I think GoPro getting be like Canon and Dji Action be like Sony camera, Include this greenish WB tint level. Btw I wonder that is this greenish WB tint level can be adjust on post production?
Kinda looks to me that both have been rushed to market. The DJI has some.great features but really when it comes to what youll use regularly its not much hetter than the 3 for simply recording video. The Gopro is better but only woth the max lens mod. In standard form its not really any better than the 11. I currently use the GoPro hero 9 and honestly i dont think either of these offer a substantial upgrade in most use cases.
I think both companies just added small but needed upgrades this year, nothing huge but they make a difference if you’re in the market to buy an action camera. I probably wouldn’t upgrade from the Hero 11, unless I needed the pro features and extra wide 4K Max Lens Mod 2.0
@@PhillipSkraba Mhm, I don't see much of an improvement from 11 to 12. I'm not that dedicated user, but I use it a lot to film my sports -> mostly für IG reels. So it's an improvement to get the MaxLens 2.0 with full 4K res, but it's not worth the upgrade, espeacially when they shoot out the GPS in cam.

The story is always the main character. Both cameras have their strengths. I like the Dji Action 4's image more than the GoPro, but it's about what you like. To be honest, the GoPro Hero 12 looks good. But the colors are more correct on action 4. I think many had hoped for more when it comes to hero 12. But some improvements are better than none, GoPro did a good job. But if I could only choose one, the choice would have fallen on Dji
Yes, both companies have moved forward, and if we're honest the Action 4 wasn't a massive upgrade over the Action 3. So both companies are no doubt testing new hardware, but we need some time before they can actually get it working how they want to. These upgrades as you well said are better than none, much like with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Both cameras are good. However, the audio sounds louder on OA4 and FOV seems a bit wider as well than GPH12. GPH12 image is good but OA4 image looks more "real" (natural). I guess it boils down to reliability, usability/ease-of-use, and personal preference at the end of the day.
Yes, the audio does sound louder on the Action 4, and a little clearer. I'm still getting used to the Hero 12, so I can't talk about reliability yet, however I've had zero problem with it and the battery has been improved, I can feel that. The Action 4 on the other hand is very reliable talking from experience.
There are tons of reviews showing go pros unreliability (random shutting down due to overheating. Waiting time of 4 to 6 seconds when stopping a recording, more noisy than the action pro, the log prof is so vibrant) . Do please share if you've found them
@@serktv6231 Since I bought mine, zero problems. It's not shut down, it's not overheated, it turns off when I want it to, battery life and drainage is MUCH better. Generally seems like a polished GoPro, and am happy I picked it up. Right now, I'd say both are superb action cameras, you can't go wrong with either.

Action 4 is better. GoPro seems to be a bit soft and had more distortion. My monitor is calibrated. Have a strange feeling you mixed up the footage. Action 4 looks more vivid than GoPro 12 except in the shot where the little girl ran
Nope, definitely not. Footage has been correctly tagged, no matter how tired I am, I can still read the file tags 😂 My daughter runs like she’s legging it from the PoPo 🚨

As you said at the beginning of the video, both action cams are good enough.
GP12 on the way and sticking with A3 and will wait for A5 as I don’t shoot in lowlight but after you showed the GP12 in HDR, it’s still grainy but improved. Not sure if you can remove it with denoiser or not
Impressed with what the standard video looks on the Action 4 without HDR.
Even with HDR on the Gopro, they look fairly similar.
I also like the wind audio on the Action 4 more.
HDR is not always noticeable. It is more of a setting you through on to see what it will do and turn it off if you don't need it. In this video the HDR did not do much but there are some times that it is a real powerful tool.
Actually, HDR is not the must feature needed, as we lived without it for years and videos were quite Ok. The main thing needed is having more fantastic moments to use any of your cameras - action one, or phone one.

According to the faq on the dji website the Action 4 is always using hdr so that's why it's not a setting.

Like the HDR in bright light on the GoPo very much but i tend to feel that the Action 4 is by far a more rounded user friendly action camera that is equal if not better than the GoPo for the every day person that uses one of these type cameras. The DGI just gives great quality and superior reliability in a user friendly package that has been designed for Mr or Miss Normal to use . Fantastic video presentation yet again , thank you
Yes, a lot of people seem to be going with DJI for reliability. It seems GoPro has done some battery work though, and at the end of the day quality wise they seem very similar.
The image quality is still better on GoPro. It's clearer with more details. The details of the image on Action are washed out
well, obviously Action 4 takes adventage on every single shot. It's just physics - bigger sensor don't lie. More natural dynamic range, and looks like there is more flexibility on grading later. Sometimes gopro HDR doing some great job, but - there is no HDR in higher fragmrates than 25, am I right? Also, Gopro looks more blurry and soft like after some processing, and Action is more raw. I would like to see some testing on editing log footage, and how far they can be pushed. On highlights recovery etc.

The hdr can go up to 30fps. I do need to test the GP-Log a lot more to see what it can actually do, but I think it really shines in sunny conditions. As the for sensor size, during the day they seem very similar, obviously depending on lighting and shadows, where they can both very easily fall apart.

@@PhillipSkraba both are still super tiny, so yep, there are very similar :) but gopro in camera looks like after processing, which can be done with dji later. +50 for clarity, -50 in highlights, some curves. It's good for someone, who doesn't care about postproduction. Action 4 is more Pro than GoPro :)

Jest tam opcja Line in poprzez ten moduł zakładany? Czy to tylko do mikrofonu ? Chodzi mi o Go Pro, a w Dji OA4 jest poprostu wejście lub przejściówka na jack. Dźwięk byłby z kompa z podpiętym interfejsem. Tam na interfijsie i kompie jest opóźnienie do 10ms, milisekund.Czyli niezauważalne. Chyba nie zauważalne, ale mógłbym np poprawić na programie jesszcze i przesunąć.
For what it is worth my feeling is there isn't much in it. To me, the audio was identical, maybe the A4 looked better overall but the slow mo looked better on the H12.

The action 4 has been flawless and no issues. I left GoPro after 3 hero 11s died on me in the first 6 months. Go pro replaced them but it was a pain

Except for the DJI with blown out highlights, completely over sharpened and crazy lens distortion. Colour science is garbage - over saturated. But China numba wun right?
Both look great! I think DJI still isn't as good as GoPro when there is a lot of camera movement. GoPro 11 and 12 may or may not freeze, depending on who you ask. I've not heard anything about the OA3 and OA4 freezing up, so I switched to DJI (from GoPro HB 7). It's so reliable, it's almost boring now!
Yes, they both excel at different parts of these comparisons, it's up to you guys to decide which parts you'd use the most. I've never had an Action from DJI freeze, in terms of reliability they are amazing.
They're both great action cam and i have both of them. But the things i liked with OA4 is it's very easy to use with its magnetic mount plus the cheaper accessories compare to gopro. And i also have battery issue with hero 12 that is a downside for me since hero 10. The only reason im still using gopro is my loyalty to gopro for almost 8 years since hero 4 my first ever action cam. I hope gopro will catch up in terms of reliability not just in videocamera quality!

Without any doubt i am going for the Action 4. It has better exposed scenes throughout and has better natural color profile than the GoPro. It's wider than the GoPro, it's better and doesn't have that fisheye effect like GoPro
It performs better in low light too due to bigger sensor size. It has way better battery backup than GoPro. It has better software experience.way Faster charging speed than GoPro and still is cheaper.
Undoubtedly the best value for money❤
My Gopro has arrived but few strange things that i noticed, if i turn my sharpness settings up, the bitrate on the video files goes also up if i turn the sharpness down the bitrate goes also down, on my action 3 it is exactly the opposite low shaprness gives more bitrate high sharpness gives less bitrate and what i also noticed is that the sharpness setting on the gopro 12 has a mutch bigger effect on the standart and hdr color profil but not so strong on the gp-log profil even if i turn it to high it looks like "Medium" on the standart profil. In the comparison it seems like that the dji has more digital sharpening in daytime the gopro cleary wins but low light goes to the action 4
I really keep mine at Medium or Low. As for sharpening, I think both of them have a fair bit going on. If you turn hdr on at night, they become very similar to be honest.
@@PhillipSkraba Yeah i think i will go with medium (90-120Mbps per file), because on low i lose bitrate, (29-60Mbps per file) on "high" i get not mutch more bitrate (100-120Mbps). My Bitrate setting in the Gopro Menu is set to high and i record in 5K8:7. Atm i dont like the HDR after own test 😂 i will use it primarily as my FPV Cam my focus is on the gp-log profil 5K8:7 without stabilization, but with gyro data for post process stabilization. Here wins the Gopro because i can use the full sensor with gyro data on the action 2 and 4 i have to use the wide lens witch is a crop but on the gopro 8:7 wide is not a crop.
@@AirKhanFPVthe hero12 now uses a variable bit rate depending on the need. Low sharpness naturally requires less compression (less tiny details) so bitrate will appear less, but quality will be the same across both!

The GoPro is so orange. I have the Hero 11 but thinking of getting the Action 4 as I live in England and overcast days are way more frequent than sunny days. For the majority I thought the Action 4 looked better, I do love me some slow-mo though so shame it isn't 4K 240fps but 120fps is pretty descent and for the majority of my usage the DJI seems more favourable.
Yes, Action 4 seems a tad warmer. 120fps is nice, 240fps looks buttery soft. England, yeah, it’s pretty similar here in Poland.
Dji looks better to me, however not enough of a difference for me to upgrade from my Dji action 3. Absolutely no reason to switch to GoPro at all with all its issues.

Yes, you have an option to disable LED indicators.
DJI OSMO ACTION 4 - Better Exposure, Nice colors, Bigger field of view, LESS distortions, front touch screen, great battery, invisible selfie stick (not perfect btw), BIGGER sensor, BETTER low light!
For me it is clear which the better camera is.

Pros and cons both sides, I dropped go pro recently sold it and went action 4. Reason reliability, Go pro unresponsive touch screen freezing and bug issues. Action 4 works no issues a joy to use after owning a go pro. This is the key test for me have you seen these issues continue with the go pro, No point having an amazing action camera that’s temperamental! Great videos buddy keep it up. I said pros and cons actually I can’t think of any cons with the action 4

Your front lenses on both cameras were too durty. The footage is ruined. Do not touch lenses with the fingers.
My front lenses were squeaky clean, like my underpants. Both were polished and not touched even once during the filming of this video. However, on that subject, action cameras are made to be dirty, so I think I should have licked them just to make this more authentic.

Not to bash GoPro but my hero 9 made me switch platforms and now I can match my drone footage with my camera footage, I’m very excited for DJI action 4 .
When comparing like this there are some differences, in some cases gopro looks better in some dji, but if you just film on one of these two you just see awesome small camera. I have Action4 and think it's amazing and don't want to buy Hero12. But i'm pretty sure if i'd have 12 i wouldn't want to buy Action4 :-)
GP HDR mode looks surprisingly good in many lighting conditions. I ‘un-cancelled’ my cancelled GoPro subscription and think I’ll give the H12 a chance. Still love the GoPro ecosystem and just hoping that Quik software adds a few of the AI features. That and still betting/hoping that GoPro comes through on a Max 2 by this time next year. A4 looks great and still wins usability. I’m adding Falcam F22 mount system to close the gap. Come on GoPro, please don’t let me down!

The TH-cam compression is so weird! At first I watch this at 1080p (because my monitor is 1080p) and GoPro footage is so mushy. I wonder - how can that be, it's got higher resolution. I watch for several minutes, do some pauses, switch to 1440p - still the same. Hmmm, something with GoPro lens maybe? I switch to 4K - and BAM, wow, now GoPro is sharp and DJI is mushy. Softer than it was in 1080 p. So strange...
Thanks, as always, for the helpful video. The comparison was difficult for me because it seems your face is consistently larger (closer?) on the GoPro side. To me, they both look somewhat out-of-focus at that distance. The default color settings appear “warmer” on the GoPro. It also seems to me that the boosting of the shadows on the DJI cause an overall soft haze that, at first glance, makes me think the lens is dirty. While the skin tones are pleasant enough on both cameras, faces look a bit “airbrushed” on the DJI. While this may be more flattering, it shows less detail, even significantly in your beard. I’m sure the invisistik feature appeals to many people, but it is distracting to me - seems silly to have the hand sticking out in an unnaturally stiff position and holding on to nothing.

Well, the GoPro is always going to be cropped in a little, so that's not unusual. I definitely feel like it has soft skin filter, a kind of like you say airbrushed look, it's really weird, and both of them suffer from it depending on the lighting. The invistick is fun, but I'm guessing it's more suited if you have it mounted to a car for example and can't see it's mounting point, that'll give you a cool look. Thanks Bob!

Yes, you can adjust the exposure on both cameras. As for the sky, they both do a good job, and GoPro really holds strong when you turn its hdr feature on. It's a hard choice, I know.

On other videos, the image from GoPro was usually brighter, but here, Action is brighter. Strange. The second thing is that the image on Action is stretched vertically, I mean, the face looks prolonged. Did you notice that?
Yeah, they use totally difference fov, and I can't decide which one I prefer, though I'm kind of leaning toward the prolonged horse face lol.

Go Pro 12 hands down this time. After just buying the GoPro 11, I was trying to convince myself the 12 would not be worth the upgrade but after watching your footage as well as other TH-cam reviewer‘s footage of the 12 versus the DJI, it’s apparent go pro 12, 100% wins this round. The HDR mode quality and the balance between dark and light portions of any screenshot are a game changer.
For people that love hdr, the Hero 12 is a good choice. I think it’s cool but in the right situation.

If you are outdoors with any scattered clouds with the sun peeking in and out, the HDR obtains amazing footage that just adds that “realism” factor that your brain knows is just more “right” but you can’t put your finger on why. That’s when you know HDR is doing its job and from what I am seeing, Go Pro 12 HDR pretty much hit that out of the park.
your weed is too strong bro! do you know that A4 already has in built HDR as well? the colors are more realistic in the A4 plus audio is better as well. the boot up time is much faster. GP wins with slo-mo in 240 fps and 8:7 aspect ratio

The audio on the Action 4 is louder, that's for sure.
Gopro focus more on background means on clouds structures are more deep..whike dji focus mainly on you

I've watched a few comparisons dji 4 vs gopro 11 and 12 now and I noticed that gopro does a great job with the sky...yes- the SKY.....on DJI videos the sky is usually blurred and slightly overexposed- when at the same time- on go pro - 11 and 12 now- is nicely detailed, sharp clouds etc....
Czesc Maciej! Yes, GoPro seem to do a good job exposing the sky and the subject, mind you DJI do a good job at most parts too. It really depends on the lighting, the auto exposure kicks in at different moments, how important that is to users, well, that's up to them. Pozdrawiam z Lodzi.

Nadal zastanawiam się co kupić niby w jeden dzień jestem zdecydowany na DJI a w drugi na GP 12. Wydaje mi się, że GP12 ma lepszą stabilizację nie rozmywa tak i jest mniej ziarna. Nadal jestem w kropce.

1080p looks better on gopro, but dji looks like vlogging action cam, exposure is more set to face and I can't check it but i think dlog m is better, gplog is so dark i it has a loot of colors, but i cant try which is better to colorgrade. gopro is sometimes too detail, but dji should use gygo compasate exposure, because on you 4k 120 it is blue, shutter is too slow for this action. this distortion is pain in gopro, dji looks normal, true :P but for fun timewarp, startrail etc. gopro is fun toy :D
Yep, they both have their strengths and weaknesses, there is no perfect action camera, but I’m positive both companies are working on fixing that and evolving their products.

Another great video, thanks. It would be cool to see even short compare like Gp7 vs Gp12. A lot of people still got Version 7,8 or 9 and consider to switch but they are not sure is it worth . I do not write here about Stabilization which I bet is way better now but video quality. To be honest I have ver 7 and as I see quality of 12 sample see not much diff which could push me to switch device. Am I wrong?
I’ve been thinking of comparing it to a variety of cameras, and I’ve actually already charged my Hero 7 after a couple of years 🤘🏻 I think the Hero 12 will destroy it in terms of stabilisation. I think it would be a massive upgrade.

It might be me Point o view. 7 Was the first one with hypersmooth and Its still monster Stabilization. As you know our city is full of holes, bumps, broken roads. If not HSmooth ver 1.0 in Gp7 my videos from bicycle would like video from surface of bumping ball . Once I accidentally off it and recorded without Stabilization. It was like footage from hand 109 years old Man. I am confiused only about quality. Do we have ultra improve or only minor changes? Looking only at this aspect is it worth to step forward and switch from 7 to 12 or DJI? Would be nice to see how time change or not action cameras technolog. Gretings.
I would also be interested in comparing a GP7 to Action 4 - especially the stabilization on a bumpy ride with mountain bike.

Have you done a video on Hyperlapse and Timelapse. I have had a Action 3 since March and they are the two things i haven't really got to grips with. I like your videos,they are easy to understand and straight to the point. Are there any tips you can give me please.
No, not yet, but it is on my list as a completely separate video. HyperLapse and TimeLapse are pretty simple. TimeLapse works great if your camera is standing still and you're filming time passing. HyperLapse works great if you're walking about. They both have really great effects and fun uses, I'll make sure to do a comparison soon.

DJI Action 4 always. The RS is okay, but I rarely use it, the Action 4 just feels like a much more polished camera. Insta360 drop the Insta360 Ace soon, I wouldn’t wait for it either…

There is a bike mount, but not a bike mount combo. I bought the bike mount and saddle mount myself from DJI as they don't send me everything for free, and they're really great quality. So maybe get the standard version and pick up the bike mount, it's solid.

I haven't used them underwater, but I think both will do a good job, unless you're deep diving where the Action 4 can hit -18m.

It's a good action camera!
15:05 shows that the action 4 has a built in HDR. They removed the HDR function and baked it in all their video modes. It took the gopro a while to start showing all the cloud details. but then again in some situations, the gopro still shows more dynamic range. You can actually see shadows on the clouds with the gopro showing more details and making the sky look good, while the action 4 only shows some, its just mostly white.
Well, they stated it’s not needed anymore as they’re increased the dynamic range, so take that as you will. I did notice that the Action 4 did incredibly well in that scene.
@@PhillipSkraba overall I think the gopro has a better video quality. But the uncertainty of it failing and losing videos is the reason why I went with DJI. Reliability over quality any day of the week for me. I hope future gopros will be as reliable or better than DJI so I can go back. And oh! Maybe lose that overly fish eyed look. Lol.

I discovered that when you are standing and there is a bush behind you, I pause the video, then from behind the bush is clearly visible on Action 4 on GoPro, this bush is blurred, and also when you walk near buildings and also press pause, then on Action 4 there is very good sharpness on windows on GoPro there is no sharpness, I am convinced that Action 4 is the best camera
Some interesting comparisons here:
1 - at 0:54 we can see clouds and the antenna on roof on the GP12 unlike the A4.
2 - at 5:07 a lot more details in the background on the A4, why is that?
3 - at 7:15 the GP12 at 120fps have a sharpen image, we see details in your face while it's all smoothed out on the A4.
4- at 14:12 when you turn on the GP12 with zoom in I guess it's 2x? Your text shows 1.4x. Sad the GP12 won't zoom while filming. Could it be an option to avoid bad manipulation?

Yes, in some circumstances they expose differently, especially backgrounds. The GoPro does seem more real in slow motion, the Action seems like it makes me prettier and smoothed out. The Hero 12 only allowed for a 1.4x zoom, whereas the Action 4 allows for a 2x zoom. Generally zooming isn't recommended on either of these, it's digital and it's frowned up lol.

They expose awb differently no doubt, so you'll see a difference in colours for sure.

It's not really something I use, but I will do a dedicated video on photos.
Hero 12 over saturated colours, under exposed in a lot of situations and still has inconsistencies with extreme temperature performance. I typically shoot in 2.7k 16x9 to keep file transfers as short as possible. Who uses 5.3k ? Not enough in the Action 4 to get me to upgrade from the Action 3, but if I were to buy now it would be DJI
I'm at the side of Action 4 just because of it's Low Light performance.

At 08:45 on and at the 10:10 and on clips, teh Action 4 shows quite a bit of stutter in the background building and trees. It is very noticeable. But you are right, content matters more than the latest camera. I would like to know the file size difference between 4K clips from both cameras and between the H12 at 5K and A4 at 4K. That is a factor for me, as battery life is. Both cameras have pros and cons. I wonder if the A4 lens had some smudging, it shows more flare when backlit. But it could be a dirty lens. The Hero 10 may be the best deal of them all, if money is an issue.
File sizes are pretty similar since I switched it to the smaller size on the Action 4, as they were massive beforehand. Both lenses were super clean when filming, I made sure of that, and yes, I did notice some odd halation, no idea what that was about. As for stutter, yes, in low light, they sometimes fall apart.

Sure, you can do it in the DJI Mimo app.
Why is the GoPro so distorted and the colors so saturated 😞
GoPro has more of an action camera look, whereas the DJI has more of a clean look in my opinion.
Action 3 can zoom in too 💪🏻 I was recording video and found out by accident and got that woooow only because GoPro didn’t have it and I just kept playing with that function like a kin on 25th of December plays with his toys 😂😂😂
Lol, the zoom whilst recording is a function a lot of people ask me about, which is odd, as I don't think I'd ever use it, but some people need it.

Phil, mate could you do testing of mic on both with you behind. As I just compared videos hero10 vs action 3 and action 3 is killing it in a good way, voice isn’t distorted so much as gopro

Well, because the Hero 12 has a higher res, so why not take full advantage of that.

Both are great. Sometimes the Gopro looks better, sometimes the Action 4 does. Either way, both are quality and not a clear winner over the other.

Exactly, depends on the situation. It's not a case where one is definitely superior in all environments.
Kinda looks to me that both have been rushed to market. The DJI has some.great features but really when it comes to what youll use regularly its not much hetter than the 3 for simply recording video. The Gopro is better but only woth the max lens mod. In standard form its not really any better than the 11. I currently use the GoPro hero 9 and honestly i dont think either of these offer a substantial upgrade in most use cases.
I think both companies just added small but needed upgrades this year, nothing huge but they make a difference if you’re in the market to buy an action camera. I probably wouldn’t upgrade from the Hero 11, unless I needed the pro features and extra wide 4K Max Lens Mod 2.0

Yes, the look quite similar at the end of the day. The GoPro does allow for higher fps at higher resolutions, so sure that is advantageous.

@@PhillipSkraba Mhm, I don't see much of an improvement from 11 to 12. I'm not that dedicated user, but I use it a lot to film my sports -> mostly für IG reels. So it's an improvement to get the MaxLens 2.0 with full 4K res, but it's not worth the upgrade, espeacially when they shoot out the GPS in cam.
I've personally never ever used the GPS. As for the Max Lens Mod 2.0, I think it could be worth it just for that. I'll see what it arrives.
The image quality is better on the gopro in my opinion.
