    Couple of observations after having one for a few years. Migratory covers sit better than telescoping covers, which don't allow the hive to rest completely vertically. Doesn't work for 8 frame hives unless you add a block or other spacer between hive and frame of truck. When moving hives with more than 2 boxes, drilling a couple of holes and adding height to the cross bar is advantageous. Replace the handle bolt with a pin and cotter key or wing nut and you can remove the handle for easier travel in a truck full of boxes and equipment.

    Roll Tide. You and Kamon should be happy after the game.
    The hive was light, so how far away is the first nectar and pollen? Did you get some of that snow? Weather man said that parts of LA have more snow than most of MN.

    • @brucesbees
      @brucesbees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I think we are going to avoid the snow down here. They got some up in the north parts of the state I think. Will be feeding these bees. They have actually been neglected for several months. They were not super light felt like they need some more weight.

      Yep I think it will work well. Cant wait to try it on the pallet bees.

    • @kaistumer198
      @kaistumer198 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even many commercial guys use it, to move boxes in a yard. Keeps the lifting out, and allows for fast changing of boxes, e.g when replacing dead outs or winter loses. You need full pallets for shipping, no way shipping half full pallets.

    One question, I'm assuming that pair of deeps you lifted out of the bed of your truck aren't too heavily loaded, there's no way in hell I would attempt lifting them if they were, if they are, my hats off to you!!

    • @brucesbees

    I looked into the EZ lift, as well as the hand trucks with the built in winch hoist. The winch lifts were too pricey, and I ended up not seeing a great advantage in the EZ lift compared to a heavy duty hand truck from Dadant. So that’s what I got. I also found a 2-person lifter bar is handy. Maybe gives a little more stability lifting a 2-3 story hive.

    • @brucesbees
      @brucesbees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you looked into it. Hope it works out for you.

    • @brucesbees
      @brucesbees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not see the heavy duty hand truck. My have to look into that but won’t be able to afford another lift for awhile.

    • @brucesbees
      @brucesbees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cant seem to find the heavy duty hive hand truck. Is it basically the same thing as the EZ Lift?
      I think the EZ Lift will work well if I just strap taller hives together.

      @@brucesbees Sorry Bruce, I guess I remembered wrong: it was from Kelley Beekeeping. Called the “4-wheel Kelley nose truck”. I bought it last year, but I just learned Mann Lake has bought out Kelley and it appears they’re only selling the 2-wheeled version. I did find this video with Kamon Reynolds talking about his 4-wheel Kelley at 4:00 into the video. I used mine to move a bunch of heavy 3-4 story colonies, and the 4-wheels seemed to make it less prone to tipping on uneven ground.
      That said, I think yours will work well, too. It’s just fun to swap information about what what works

      It is helpful for sure. Works best for hives that are low to the ground. There are other lifts that are more adjustable. Mike Barry uses one that looks really nice. But you are right…they are pricy.
