This is the Conoflex Easy Cast rod, 12ft long and made to cast 150g or lead. There are many similar 12-13ft rods from many manufacturers including Zziplex, Century, Daiwa. The reel is a CT multiplier such as the Abu 6500CT or Daiwa 7HT. Main line 0.35mm with 50lb shock leader. Tackle is not critical; casting technique is far more important.
it looked like the weight didn`t reach its peak coming back over the top which gave a more snatchy movement. I`m learning this at the moment and it doesn`t seem to have a full flow of the weight creating the pendulum effect. I hope i`m not coming across as negative and don`t mean to be but i need to analyse all the examples i can to get it right. I guess we all do this cast different and thanks for putting it up.
John' There seems to be so many varying pendulum styles. In my case i tend to split the cast into three parts - turn body to take initial load of the cast itself, this gives me enough time to sight the target; once established i push the rod slowly to give me more inertia but not releasing and only when the rod butt is in line with my head do i push pull. ( i use reel up) Rods used with multipliers are ZZiplex Primo Powertex. Conoflex Nemesis and Century Compresser. Question-- What is, in your consideration a pure style?

Hi John, am getting around 150m (paced out), feel like I could be achieving more. Am using a Sonik SK4 16ft & Millionaire 7ht super tuned, .30 F1 line & 150g. I know my technique is not quite up to scratch but how far do you think I should be reasonably expecting? Think I hit about 100m when actually fishing....
Big baits, thicker line, head on winds e.c.t will always cut the distance down, but he is still going to get futher than if he didnt know how to cast well. I can cast futher now than I could a few months ago with just the lead, and this translates when fishing too, only within the limitations of conditions and bait size. If you can compress the rod, and control it, then its worth the time to learn how to cast better.
I'm real new to surf fish so forgive my lack of knowledge here but I can't seem to get a good enough grip on the line to stop it from casting too early durin the swing and am getting more height than distance. Is the a certain way to hold the line. I noticed he had his upside down.
for a budget caster/fisherman have a look at the leeda piranha 12 ft im casting over 200 yards with 5oz lead and a greys g-mag six i kid u not, u can get these rods on ebay for less than 60 quid, i got one for £19 and honestly im casting further than what i ever done with my century slammer or penn vendetta
Looks like a good technique for chunking a plain chunk of lead, but one does not catch much on a plain chunk of lead. How does it work with a big, bloody hunk of Bonita hanging about five feet below the lead?
Seems to me you're doing fairly well already, so maybe you just need to give it a bit more time to develop. First and most important, keep working on your technique. But 16ft is a heck of a long rod for pendulum work. Few casters can handle more than 14ft to best effect. Try, say, a 13ft rod and see how you get on. My bet is that you'll end up casting farther, especially when you're fishing.
OK, so what does this have to do with fishing? Put a 4 ounce crab on a 10/0 hook and a six ounce surf sinker on an 18 inch dropper and come back tomorrow with another video pitching that 180 yards!
Took me years to master this without anyone guiding in person. I'm happy now that I can cast like this. Thanks for the video!

Yes, you can use a fixed spool reel. But pendulum casting is easier and more comfortable with a multiplier reel.

150 is good with that beginner set up. But if you want more distance I would save up and get better equipment
Works nicely with most small multipliers and fixed spool reels. The smaller Trinidads should be fine.

Then how to keep the reel from backlashing.. that's my issue every5th cast

Put your thumb on the reel first and then clasp the rod, you will find you gain a tighter and more comfortable grip.
