I so admire your optimism. Even after all those setbacks, you're still looking on the bright side of things. I'm hoping to move to Scotland someday, so thanks for shedding light on some of the things to expect.

What i can`t fathom is that we hear this all the time that you all seem to have problems understanding our spoken accent. I can listen to and understand almost anyone who speaks English from anywhere. IF, i`m not too sure what`s being said, i`ll ask them to repeat.
Can i make a wee suggestion on meeting people ? Go out and about and talk to us instead of waiting on people talking to you cause you`ll wait forever and most will think you`re stand offish. Go into cafes, pubs, parks ( weather permitting ) and listen to people, you`ll soon pick up the lingo. We`re a very friendly bunch once you blend in. No-one will pull your chain or, ring your bell, you need to make the 1st move.
Hope you settle in and enjoy your stay here.

Hey Andy, yes I do ask people to repeat themselves when necessary :) And I wonder how you'd fare listening to English speakers in the Caribbean! The accents over here can be intense as well and I've heard feedback from friends and visitors that they also can't understand us - whether in The Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad or elsewhere :) I love how we all speak the same language but it sounds different all over the world!

If, you haven`t already done so, get yourself registered with a G.P. as well as flat hunting. You can have a word with your Doctor about flat hunting as he/she can put you in touch with agencies that can help. As for accommodation, its usually 1 month rent plus 1 month in advance ( private landlords ) it also pays to check out employment before arriving here because most landlords will not accept DSS and insist you`re employed. Some will take you but, they tend to be in the more run down areas.
Areas worth viewing will be further away from the city centre such as the south side, west end as well as Paisley/Renfrew/Erskine. Transport links to areas such as this are good and frequent. Try to avoid areas where you see a lot of graffiti, schools and that look run down.
Look for flats in the areas i`ve suggested online. Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestions Andy. I've both registered with a GP and gotten a place - although I found my flat first. You're right about handy transport links. I'm thankful for the ease of moving about the city!

@@gabriellegweneth On the subway, get a return and you can use that same ticket all day. On the bus buy a day ticket which you can do the same.
I bumped into a wee lassie like yourself standing at the bus stop on Friday i think it was who asked me if the bus coming was a 38. She got on, spoke briefly to the driver then got off again. The stop opp., Cessnock subway - not you was it ? Late afternoon.

@@andyhughes5885 I thought returns on the subway just lasted for one journey, there and back? As for the lassie - haha no that wasn't me. :)

@@gabriellegweneth I used to think that buying a return on the subway was for just one journey too but no, you can use it all day long. Ask next time you buy a ticket - it might be because of my good looks they tell me that lol
