How to Reset your Xfinity Modem

- If you are having trouble with your internet or telephone connection, resetting or rebooting your modem may be your first and best step to troubleshoot your issue. This video will show you how to reset or reboot your xFi Gateway Xfinity modem from the modem device itself.
Basically to reset your modem, look on the back side of your modem, pull out the power plug on the bottom of it where he has his fingers, wait about 10-15 seconds then plug it back in. Works for me every time and now you don't have to waste 4:35 of your life watching this video. Your welcome.

3:49 I'm a COX tech, I actually feel doing the master reset is stronger than pulling the power plug.
I feel like pushing the reset button is way better in my opinion too! It's also a little harder to reach the reset button so it kind of makes sense for it to be better then just unplugging it.
How is the master reset done?
And how I do the master reset? I gave my kids the one where I had to put my email and password ( the one you can go anywhere and whoever has Xfinity it automatically log them in and now these mfkrs are disrespecting me and I can't pause there devices and just straight disrespecting me, don't wanna do dishes or anything and I can't take them out. Please help

Seriously? 4 minutes and 35 seconds to say... Unplug power cord, wait 10 to 15 seconds and plug back in. Done. Reset Complete. It will take 4 to 8 minutes (depending) for your modem to fully reboot. "i would recommend turning off a lot of your internet devices before you do this, just to be safe" is bogus. there is ZERO risk to your devices doing this while they are connected... trust me.
actually unplug power cord does NOT NOT reset device. Only holding in the little button with a paperclip for 30 seconds will RESET.

I'm having the same problem. The light is flashing orange but it's not flashing blue white.
Vivintex i just found out the issue.my dad hit the reset button.when you fo that it gets rid of your password and the name of the router.so niw it works fine.

Unplugging it does not reset, as it keeps the configuration, which just a reboot.
A reset should clear any changes you have stored and "reset" to factory config.
A Reset will delete or clear any chanfes made to the startup file and l9ad the factory set startup config file.
Very different from rebooting or unplugging. This is why the reset button is located in a way to prevent pushing it by accident and requires your deliverate action.

Reset is not the same as 'rebooting'. Reset means return to factory settings
Edit: Make sure to HOLD the button for more than 5 seconds. That'll really factory reset it. Just pressing the button will reboot it. I held mine for like 20 seconds and then it brought me to the initial setup page for the router allowing me to recreate the SSID and password. And fixing all of my current issues.
Mine didn't reset to factory settings when pressing it. I was hoping it'd fully reset it, disconnect every IP from the network reassigning them when they re-connect, and reset the rest of the settings. But for me the button just seemed to reboot the router which did fix another issue I had with not being able to connect to my default gateway, or it being extremely slugish.
It took this guy 4 mins to tell us something we already knew 🤦🏾♂️

I'm 22. I can do a bit more things that are "tech-savvy" than my husband. My husband is 26 going on 27. He's an old soul and also didn't have experience with some of the things I had had experience with, therefore, I help him all of the time because I know common sense and how to work around things and do what's necessary. But he takes one look and can't do it... Because of what he grew up with was different from me. Plus, he's a hippie. Not big on tech anyway. But, the last thing I'm thinking about is sex...

You need to reactivate the modem through the xfinity xfi app. Resetting it clears it back to factory settings
I tried to set up my box and it won’t stop blinking orange. And the network that it tells me to look for to set it up did not pop up. So what do I do?
The light needs to be a solid white on the moden for it to function. If it is still blinking orange there could be something going on making the modem offline. If this is your first time setting up your own internet xfinity offers a free recovery technician if you schedule the tech appointment yourself using the xfinity app!

is the color of the light suppose to be white or orange when on or getting good signal? mine use to be orange but when the tech came to fix the cabble tv my modem"s light turned to white instead of orange. not it is slow.
The light is supposed to be white if you're receiving any signal. After unplugging the modem, then plugging it back in, the light will start out orange, then blink orange, then blink green, then turn all white afterwards. It happens when I reset my modem after the x1 system freezes up when it's not supposed to.

Can anyone explain to me what the lights mean on this modem? I know a solid white connection is good but sometimes when I internet goes out I get a flashing green, or flashing green or flashing orange. Sometime I get flashing blue or a cycle of red, orange, green on repeat. Anyone know that these mean?
Most of the time when mine is flashing green, my xbox says it's having DNS connection problems

I just upgraded to the one you have and I can’t get a good signal in my room on my ps4 it doesn’t even let me connect to it. But the old modem i had connected to it but i lagged a lot. But i got a new modem and also the speed was upgraded to 300mbps. I have more problems now than before. My room isn’t far from the modem. Any tips?

So my xf1 modem is showing unresponsive on the site and has a blinking orange light on top of the device. Not sure how to fix it. Ive tried everything i could thinking of as in reconnecting the coax and power cord
If the light on the top of ur modem is blinking orange/yellow/amber it only means that the modem is unresponsive and there's a problem with hard connections of the modem or the outlet dude

You may have a different type of IP. If you have a static IP, no matter how many times you reset your modem your IP will not change. If you have a dynamic IP your IP should change when you reset your modem.

Fishaboy Then power-cycling your modem/restarting should change your IP, if your IP does not change then contact ISP
