I see a lot of people in german language cat groups that say it`s extremely hard to adopt from german shelters even for people who had cats for decades. Being an experienced cat owner it´s easy in Austria. I went there with a cat carrier, told them my previous cat had died aged 12, my boy is now lonely and needs an age appropriate companion. I set in a room full of elder female cats and chose a shy little lady. they guessed she`s 13 years old. So perfect. I had her for 6 years.
Danke rewboss. So sorry about your dear affectionate Lily. My Lily, a long haired Siamese mix, died 3 years ago in my arms after 19 wonderful years .She was also super affectionate, licking my nose and face while laying beside me in bed. I sent 5€ last month to your shelter in our Lily's name. Liebe Grüße from Idaho, USA.
I have just sent my latest foster cat to his forever home. His paperwork says he is 10 years old. The vet said maybe 6. Based on his behaviour I would guess he might be even younger. The only thing giving a rough estimate for an adult cats age are the teeth. Unfortunately he has FIV which is notorius for prematurely rotting teeth. Fortunately he found a new home where he is loved for his rambunctious nature no matter his age.
Annelise is a beauty. She has the look of movie star. And a gorgeous tail. Also the combination of the two cats will be a nice picture I think. I adopted a dog nobody wanted, because he attacked people by trying to bite them in the toes. I thought this was hilarious, so I went to visit him. First thing he did was biting in my toes. 😀
When living in Germany, we adopted two dogs from a local animal shelter (Tierheim). After a few weeks, they were contractually returned due to their failing to settle which was a relief for all of us 👍
Heartbreaking, and so amazingly kind of you - all at the same time… Thank you for your generosity towards sheltered cats, even if bureaucracy is rather ‘inhumane’… 💛
Very nice. The 2 black cats I adopted from a Belgian shelter almost 2 years ago had a less stringent contract. I sent photos and updates on their life with me. Then asked if they would want me to stop. But they told me they were very happy about my follow up messages, so I keep. In contact when I have nice photos and things to relate on my 2 black lives. I was thoroughly vetted before I could adopt but the shelter only requires bot to pass on the cats to anybody before contacting them.
One detail he missed is that usually shelters cooperate with vets. The adoption fee usually includes free rounds of vaccinations and sterilisation if you do them at the partnered vet. This is to incentivise that you actually do have the cat vaxxed and fixed which is of course also in the shelter's interest. And assuming that a responsible pet owner would do those things anyway it actually lowers the cost of adopting a pet significantly.
@@RoonMian Borrowing an Elliott trap to corral a stray tom, then applying a couple of elastrator bands, tends to "lower the cost of adopting a pet VERY significantly!"
4:39 wait, wait, wait a second! "regular updates", does that mean she'll have her own channel as "Rewcat" from now on? I mean, how else would you keep the shelter updated in this modern time and age? Warmest greetings to Anneliese from (in no specific order): Bärli, Hans, Kratzi, Bürsti, Pippilotta, and Knicksi. Also known as "the Mafia".
Going by our two cats: They were from two parallel litters, being brought up by the same mum. Still, they never really became friends, but when we were not home could be surprised lying on the same bed when we returned. And now, that one of them has died, the other one definitely misses her companion. So, Clyde may never openly accept Anneliese, he is, after all, a grumpy old man. But I think he will appreciate her company. Also: Liese is SUCH a cutie.
@@Nikke283 Had you taken the practical approach and availed yourself of the services of the local taxidermist all would be hunky-dory! The fees there would be rapidly covered by not having to shell out for a second moggy's feed and Vet bills. 🙃
My previous cat was a similar age surprise: estimated 3 years old by the rescue vet. But at home, he grew a lot bigger and played like a kitten, and based on his behaviour he was probably more like 10 months old. That indeed meant a lot more play and activity than I had bargained for in my small apartment. Hope the little monster lady will charm Clyde in no time!
I adopted a kitten from a shelter 12 years ago - and they actually visited unannounced about 4 weeks later. That was probably just due to the fact that this person by coincidence basically drove by my house every day on her way to and from the shelter, but nevertheless it _does_ happen. I have since found out that small rescue organisations can be even more demanding. When we first adopted a dog from Portugal, we had a somebody checking us and our home even _before_ the dog arrived. Yes, adopting a dog is different to adopting a cat, but I do think that in not many countries this subject is taken as seriously as in Germany. 😊
Same happened when my sister got her dog through a Tiernothilfe organisation - she had to fill in questionnaires and they made a home visit before she even got to see the dog. And then there were several supervised visits at the dog's temporary home complete with walking the dog etc. But better that than giving an animal to the first "oh, how cute" person who has no idea how to care for the new pet.
@@TheTH-camUser69 If you hate "being pestered like that" and don't see the reasons behind it, you're not the kind of person I want to take care of an animal.
I guess if Clyde would actually *hate* her, he would be more bossy and dominating her. I see that every day, when Jenny has contact with our neighbours cat. Once they "tolerate" each other, it's getting better.
Liese is such a sweetie. And older cats can still be very playful, it is in their nature. If she has had a litter of kittens herself, then she could be a bit older, but if not then she is probably the age that you guessed.
Ahhh the fine art of pet integration into the household- I wish you the best of luck! A few years back, we bought a puppy into a house of (at the time) 3 cats. It took about half a year before I would say they were completely comfortable with each other- now they will often snuggle up on the sofa 😅

Annaliese is very pretty. But I had taken her for a half-grown kitten from the very first second, never for a two-year old! It may have been lucky that the other old tom was not available, and you got this little one instead: a very young cat is much more easily accepted as a territory mate by a cat than one that's his equal. I wish you much fun with the both of them
That's the funny thing about cats and their social behavior. Some animals are solos, some animals form pairs, other animals form groups, packs, herds of varying sizes. Cats: "We don't abide by your pesky rules, mortals." Cats can from everything. At this point it wouldn't even out of the question if they can form schools and murders.

One thing to point out maybe: the contracts you talked about here are as far as I know legally controversial. In that it is unclear legally whether they count as purchase contracts (because they contain provisions that are typical of a purchase) despite claiming not to be purchase contracts. The legal requirements are more of the nature of "if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck" rather than what they proforma claim. I only bring this up because if you have signed such a contract and are ever in the position where you feel like they are unfairly trying to regain possession of your pet, then you might have legal recourse. Of course usual disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.
You can always ask a legal expert in the case of a dispute. But what's important is that the contract correctly distinguishes between "Besitz" and "Eigentum". A contract that transfers "Eigentum" to you would certainly, to my understanding, constitute a purchase contract.
@@rewboss from my understanding that is not necessarily entirely legally relevant if other aspects of the contract convey properties that would lead a reasonable individual to believe it is a purchase contract. But it apparently depends significantly about wording with respect to the conditions. In any case you didn't say anything wrong in my opinion, and I hope it didn't come across as criticism. I only wanted to give the message to people that if they feel like such a contract is being enforced in a manner they consider unfair, it is not as black and white as it might otherwise appear, and they should probably talk to a lawyer before complying with it.

Hey Andrew! Just a quick tip: you shouldn't let a new cat outside for at least the first four weeks as the cat might try to find its way back to its old "home" even though it's multiple kilometers away.
I got a pair of "free" cats from a farm. Adpoted them, because they had to many. A couple of years later I try to move countries, with my cats, and a custom officers askes me how much the cat is worth and basically askes for a receipt. "I don't have one, those cats are from a farm". Eventually a native speaker convinved them that the cats were "free" ... but it was quite an expirence.
It is nice that they try to make sure the animal gets to a proper home but the extra administration /fees and even a fricking contract (which looks fishy to me) discourages me to even trying to adopt a pet. The language barrier also doesn't help
You can think of it in those terms. The difference is that we have "rented" her indefinitely, for a one-off payment; there's an interesting legal question of whether or not this constitutes a purchase.
