Lyrics:
Has the dawn ever seen your eyes?
Have the days made you so unwise?
Realize, you are
Had you talked to the winds of time
Then you'd know how the waters rhyme
Taste of wine
How can you know where you've been?
In time you'll see the sign
And realize your sin
Will you know how the seed is sown?
All your time has been overgrown
Never known
Have you walked on the stones of years?
When you speak, is it you that hears?
Are your ears full?
You can't hear anything at all
The preacher said a prayer
Save every single hair on his head
He's dead
The minister of hate had just arrived too late to be spared
Who cared?
The weaver in the web that he made
The pilgrim wandered in
Commiting every sin that he could
So good
The cardinal of grief was set in his belief he'd saved
From the grave
The weaver in the web that he made
The high priest took a blade
To bless the ones that prayed
And all obeyed
The messenger of fear is slowly growing, nearer to the time
A sign
The weaver in the web that he made
A bishops rings a bell
A cloak of darkness fell across the ground
Without a sound
The silent choir sing and in their silence
Bring jaded sound, harmonic ground
The weaver in the web that he made
Clear the battlefield and let me see
All the profit from our victory
You talk of freedom, starving children fall
Are you deaf when you hear the season's call?
Were you there to watch the earth be scorched?
Did you stand beside the spectral torch?
Know the leaves of sorrow turned their face
Scattered on the ashes of disgrace
Every blade is sharp; the arrows fly
Where the victims of your armies lie
We're the blades of grass and arrows rain
Then there will be no sorrow
Be no pain

Formed in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer helped define and set new standards throughout one of the most ambitious and experimental periods in 20th-Century popular music. Drawn from The Nice, King Crimson, and Atomic Rooster respectively, they were hailed as progressive rock’s first supergroup. Combining driving dynamics, intricate arrangements, and virtuosic skill, between 1970 and 1978, ELP released seven studio recordings and three live albums. Such was their popularity on both sides of the Atlantic that their records repeatedly achieved Platinum status sales.
Titles such as Tarkus, Trilogy, and Brain Salad Surgery created distinctive worlds that incorporated soaring themes, other-worldly timbres, yearning ballads, humorous pastiche and dramatic long-form conceptual works. While they adapted pieces by classical composers as stylistically varied as Bartok, Mussorgsky, Copland, Ginastera and Rodrigo, ELP sounded like nobody else but themselves.
The trio performed live one final time at London’s High Voltage Festival in July 2010 just weeks short of their debut gig 40th anniversary.
Although Keith Emerson and Greg Lake both sadly passed away in 2016, interest in ELP continues to grow, and Carl Palmer’s own band regularly performs a setlist dedicated to the unique music he helped create. ELP's music continues to find new audiences more than 50 years from their beginning, a striking testament to the group's irrepressible blend of energy, eclecticism, and visceral excitement.

This just shows how virtuosic Carl Palmer is a drummer, this will remain one of the best prog tracks of all time!
Saw them twice, Emerson & Palmer going crazy...Lake standing almost motionless! He was playing exceptionally well!
@@davidholcomb70 incredibly jealous!
Oh my God... This song is IMMORTAL.
RIP KEITH 🫀
RIP GREG 🫀
The music they made with Palmer will live on forever. Tarkus is amazing. Beautiful....
Amazing album, amazing song. Probably the coolest concept track I ever saw. Thanks ELP for bringing such music to the whole world.
A prog rock classic right up there with Close to the Edge, Awaken, Supper's Ready, Starless, 2112, Cygnus X-1 (Both books), etc!
Don't forget Karn Evil 9 ;)
@@CurtisSpoonerAlmost forgot that, and Trilogy!
Birds (suite) by Trace, Credo by Refugee, The Gates of Delirium by Yes, and many more
And Atom Heart Mother 😉
ELP IS PROGRSSIVE ROCK OF ALL TIME
The is the best Emerson Lake and Palmer song without a doubt
It defines the prog genre (if that doesn't sound too Rolling Stone).
IMHO, Karen Evil 9 was the best
@@tommyrawlings3046 Karn Evil 9 is definitely impressive for how they go full blast for that long but Tarkus is more tightly composed.
So many good ones but Tarkus is Epic. It's Timeless. It's Dreamy. It speaks to my soul
It sticks in your head. It makes 20 plus minutes seem more like 8. It is like a time warp...the sudden changes. Just lay back with headphones on and go into another world.....
Somehow, Tarkus became one of my favorite song... If not my #1. I was immediately fascinated by the song and how it works, but I couldn't admit how much I liked it until I realized just how often I listen to it. I suppose, the song grows on you.
I always thought it should be made into a movie.
I had a similar feeling when i first listened to it, as i was about 6 and chose the album for its cover art.
I did not "understand" the music at all, but i liked how the drawings seemed to go along with the music, and that formed a chaotic bond in my head.
Some years later i listened to the album again, and suddenly i "understood" the music and everything fell into place, and it has been a favorite track ever since.
@@Games_and_Music Good music can break through practically any barriers.
It never gets old. I listen to ELP, King Crimson & Yes all the time. Tarkus is one of my favorites of all time......Sad & Beautiful.
Timeless Magnificence, it doesn't get any better.
And I'm not getting any younger, but this will never get old.
Three wonderful skilled men, together in a band wondrous and majestic...my teen time comes back while listening them
I'd forgotten just how good this was, I saw them live in Bournemouth and was astounded by the brilliant musicianship and showmanship still one of my favourite bands.
Hahaa haa Starles by King Crimson, ( song ) The court off Ccrimson King ( album ) and Tarkus ( suite ) the great music all the time! Yes, genesis ecc ...siderall distance. Tank you Robert ...and R.IP keih, John and Graig.
I love Tarkus. It is magical. I get lost in it. So dang good.
This is perfect for a post-apocolyptic science fiction movie.
There are similiarities between this and the Who's Lifehouse concept that became 'Who's Next.' The Who had a lot of prog elements. Tommy was massive prog.
Listen to Karn Evil 9
@@guymadgesam24 Yes, that is also similar.
Someone on another upload mentioned how the guitar solo at the end of Battlefield is very Gilmouresque. It really is. Also RIP Greg Lake and Keith Emerson. We all miss you.
Saw the, "Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends" tour back in the seventies when the triple live album was released....Third row from the stage, changed my life forever. LONG LIVE THE MUSIC OF EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER!!!!
Lucky You! ❤️
I had the pleasure of meeting Carl twice at 2 of his concerts last one I think was 2018 and he never lost a single step and the man is a true rocker and misses his friends who made history with him 💙 ❤️
God Love him! I know he does miss them. But you know Emerson & Lake are in heaven just waiting for Palmer to come jam with them. ❤️ How beautiful. I imagine getting to heaven and hearing all these great bands again. Front row tickets to all. And my dogs will be there too.
One of my favorite concept albums and one of my favorite album covers.
Listening to this track as a kid was a trip, trying to associate the paintings in the booklet to the musical changes.
It's still unfluential for me to this day, both musically and graphically.
This is my religion.
это свобода от религии
My favorite piece from my favorite group.
Changed my way of thinking about music...
About life.
Magnificent! Still my favorite track from one of my favorite bands. I can still remember the first time I heard it. Never gets old.
Majestic masterpiece ❤
It never gets old. Timeless. I can feel his struggle, his pain and they are my own.
A CLASSIC...
Learned this on a Magnus chord organ in high school. The Hammond Porta-B came later.
una increíble pieza atemporal, hasta el día de hoy sigue sonando tan futurista....
.....Y SE HIZO LA LUZ.... EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER
TArkus is some armored covered all body slow moving like a snail. And so amazing music. This is masterpiece. And yes it is a real art rock. I mean, this track is a example of art rock. Very good music. And story. Visions. Concept. Tarkus. I hope some Tarkus can speak and be kind..some next version of this Tarkus creature... And i can shed a tear to get to know that Tarkus lost battle in the end.. this is tears... i am sad.... It is such a creature... Hope these creature next time can be friendly..not only do wars to each other...
Dramactical tales of animals cyborgs like snails...robots..machines...tanks..It is so drama!! This is real drama!! I shed a tear about Tarkus..that it is created a little evil..and need to fight others.. and he died in the end... i shed a tear.. about Tarkus.. it touch me a lot..... TARKUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌
Hope you can be rebuild...and it is ok you have weapons..You can be kind...next time...
It was defeated, but we don't know if it died.
I always liked to think that it went into the water and healed itself slowly over time.
Maybe moving on to a different place where the Manticore is not around.
Or, learning from his defeat and come back even stronger!
Tarkus is in heaven. He's good now.
A monster of a song!!❤
Uma das minhas bandas favoritas, tarkus é sem duvida o melhor album deles
I was impressed a lot, getting that it is a story about a cyborg. It is some machine some animal. And it is going somewhere. It has some battles with other such creatures..as i remember manticore. So it is about cyborgs. This Tarkus. It is a story of Tarkus. And it is also looks like a world war 1 tank. But more cyborg, more fantasy construction, more animal. Wow!
And music of course is excellent! Very long track. Containing from some parts. Part Battlfield is my fav. I just listen this part lots of times. And i need to listen it full. Full 20 min track.
I remember when i first listened to this as a kid and trying to match the paintings in the booklet with the music.
I always hated the Manticore, hah, because it defeated Tarkus and it ran to the water to get to Aqua Tarkus.
I love the design, the animals crossed with old technology is a great aesthetic, i've used it several times in my own drawins.
I hope to one day make something as cool as Tarkus, with both music and graphics.
20 minutes seems more like 8 minutes. It's that good.
I can imagine how he can slowly move some direction. And watche the scene around him. Rotate his weapons...and slowly move to some point!! TARKUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSS!!!!🌻🐌🦋
It is very interesting how this track was created..music idea... and this story about Tarkus..how you create him and what is it the scene - he is moving..and what he is doing....
i love tarkus :)
This album is epic, it is so good.
tata ta taaaaaaaaaa
Praise the Moog
Preceeded by a: "WiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisshhhoooOOO"
utterly brilliant epic.
YES IS ALSO AWESOME TOO!!
Yes, ELP & King Crimson my fave bands! Yes, Yes is beyond awesome. Tarkus never gets old. CTTE never gets old. Amazing music. So dang good.
OK I found what inspired Nobuo Uematsu for the final movement of Final Fantasy VI's final boss theme "Dancing Mad"!
Masterpiece! End of!!!?? 😮
I think so.
MERCI❤
masterpiece❤
🙏
1974 Anaheim wbmfttstne version is the best
Especially Aquatarkus, can't even describe how good it is on that album.
Why nobody went to produce that kind of stuff anymore?
Idk but sadly they don't. Was so blessed to be young in the 70s. Now I'm 65 but still love this , Yes, KC and listen every day. Some ppl think I'm weird but it's not me....
They are.
Can TARKUS be recreated..he is cyborg anyway...maybe some data still exists..and working parts... motherboard, techno brain..and other things can be rebuild on a factory..will anyone recreate tarkus.. idk Tarkus ver 2.0
Tárcio: o tatuzinho bom de guerra
I’ll never listen to this one again. It wasn’t to be interrupted by all the commercials 😠😠😠😠😠
I'm sorry
Would have liked it better had you not allowed a damn ADVERTISEMENT in the middle of it.
Yes Indeed. Smh
I must beg forgiveness, but I always hate this album. And 50 years Later, I feel no different. I'm a big ELP fan. I also love the nice. But I just didn't like this album. That's just me though.
Could be worse...Love Beach anyone? 😂
@@andrewhaines3259 You are absolutely right.
@barbaraanneneale3674 I've always believed real fans of performers are the ones who genuinely dislike some of the artists output, and those who fawn over every release as being brilliant etc are fake. I don't expect to like everything my favourite artists release, goodness how many times I've tried with Zappas Jazz From Hell! Or Floyd's Endless River etc. Just one of those things!
@@andrewhaines3259 Not as bad as everyone makes out. The Gambler, Canario, Memoirs of an Officer and a Gentleman are very good. Carl's drums don't sound like him though and the BLOODY COVER!
Each to his or her own. I LOVE Tarkus! ✌🏻
