    I fucking hate the region lock. When I first heard it I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either.
    But when I got my 3DS, I quickly developed a hate for it. I bought Mario Kart DS in a normal store in the Netherlands (where I live). But the card is somehow regionlocked to the USA. So I can't play my legit game I bought in the region I live in. And that is what pissed me off.

    • @RaCUtricolor
      @RaCUtricolor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's weird that they sell an American game on a European country. I once travelled to the Netherlands (I loved it there, by the way), and bought Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario 64 DS, and the Prince of Persia: The Fallen King (all European games), and they all worked in my American DS, 3DS, and 2DS (all American). I wonder why that worked, but not vice versa.

    • @aikou2886
      @aikou2886 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AGM Official
      They did work in your case because DS games didn't have any region lock (Pokemon Black & White and some DSi titles were the only exception as far as I remember).
      Which remind me, back on the GBA era I bought a copy of The Nightmare Before Christmas in an American Wal Mart, somehow that game was European but not in English, it was on Castilian (less educated people refer to this language as "Spanish from Spain").

    • @AnimilesYT
      @AnimilesYT 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      イクト 愛乞う アレヴァロ Most of my ds games have a serial code that ends with "EUR". But some (including Mario Kart) end with "USA". They all have the region lock, but the ds and ds lite (don't know about the dsi) consoles don't have the region lock, and therefore they accept all games.

    • @aikou2886
      @aikou2886 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Animiles Yes, that is their "place of origin" so to say, please do not mistake that with region lock.
      The games themselves do not have a region lock built in, however the 3DS systems do have it (it is a firmware issue rather than a hardware one, that is why you would be able to play a Jp DS game in a DS from another region but might not be capable of doing such in a 3DS system)
      Partially correct thou I remember Korean region DS systems did have a region lock on it (might as well be for some games, not general region lock).

    Nintendo didn't make game watches, Nelsonic with a license from Nintendo made the game watch. The Game AND Watch was made by Nintendo, however, and was their first electronic device released in America. Also, the first game watches came out BEFORE Game Boy- not long before, but just a month before the US saw the release of GB, Nelsonic released their Zelda and Super Mario Bros game watches.

  • @Rhed_
    @Rhed_ 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I realize that this video is nearly a year old now, and this is a very nit-picky comment, but I have to mention that you said the wrong model numbers for the Gameboy Advance SP's. The original model with the front lit screen (the NES patterned one you showed) is actually model number AGS-001, while the next version with the back lit screen with two brightness settings (the Graphite version you showed) is actually model number AGS-101. Another issue is that you have the names of the cartridges for the DMG and GBC wrong. You called the black GBC/DMG cartridges "Jewel" cartridges. The cartridges you call "Gameboy Color Only" games are in actuality the "Jewel" cartridges. They're called "Jewel" because of the clear jewel-like cases. The black color of the DMG/GBC carts also denote that while they are compatible with the original DMG Gameboy, they will also play in color or have extra features when used with a Gameboy Color. The jewel carts are only playable with the GBC and future versions of the Gameboy due to them not having the small notch cut out in the top right of the cart.
    Other than that, I really liked this video.

    • @dmgice
      @dmgice  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Daniel Arterburn I'm saying "dual," not "Jewel." I have a bit of an accent sometimes and it totally sounds like I said "jewel" the first time I said "dual." :-| I accidentally said 001 instead of 101. Didn't catch that in editing. But I did do a later video on the two models.
      th-cam.com/video/Y9dna3STmFY/w-d-xo.html
      But hey, it's all just more stuff to fix up for version 2.0 in the future.

    I liked this video and I appreciate the effort that went into it. However as much as I hate to nitpick there are a couple of factual errors that I picked up in the GBA infographic. The GBA was first released in 2001 I remember because I got one for my birthday back in 2001 (those were good times before 9/11) Also the world wide sales for the GBA family were actually 81.5 million. Sales in North America alone were 41.6 million units.

      Yeah I played on an SP once, and it was awesome. I keep my DS lite even though I have a 3DS because you can play GBA games on the lite. Nice Master of Puppets profile pic too

      +TDM32 Gaming It's more like a generational upgrade similar to the DSi, and New 3DS devices. There are less GBC Only games than there are GB/GBC cross-compatible games.

    That game cube is missing the rare screen attachment allowing you to play games directly off the GC with out a TV or cables

    • @dmgice
      @dmgice  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sonerec725 Oh. You mean the Intec, Datel, and/or Pelican released third party screens? There was an official Nintendo screen in the works but it was never released. Wanna know why? It was a 3D Screen which displayed 3D graphics without the use of glasses. There were proto-types of that screen at E3, though. They showed off a 3D version of the first Luigi's Mansion and Sega had a 3D PSO Card game that used Hero-Clix style statues.
      All of the screens available for the Game Cube were third party releases. There was even one for the PS2 and the XBOX.
      But the Nintendo screen, like the Wideboy 64 and the Wideboy 64 2.0 were not released. Let's just say that the eventual 2.0 of this video might even be longer.
      But yeah.. the third party screens were not exactly.. "active" and some of them had some terrible motion blur that made some games almost unplayable.

      +Larry Lecrone We're actually going to give it a side bar section in 2.0 and lump it in with the Pokemon Pikachu devices. We're still working on 2.0, which will have more information, contain the New 3DS/New 3DSXL.. and be a little shorter.
