I got a bottle of eagle rare as a gift, I love it! I'm stingy with it tho, I only break it out with other people that appreciate good bourbon & a cigar.
LoL I'm a little different. Eagle Rare is my go to. I love sharing it with people who are causal whiskey Jack Daniels and Jim Beam drinkers. I enjoy impressing them with a quality bourbon.
My wife and I toured Buffalo Trace last year and fell in love with the place. It’s a must do if you hit the Ky Bourbon Trail. That’s where we bought our first bottle of Eagle Rare 10 year. Absolutely love it!!! Thanks for the review guys!!! Cheers 🥃

Completely agree. I do like the Four Roses small batch, but eagle rare has more action. I think the FR small batch is good to keep around for guests that are new to whiskey or if you’re looking for something a little bit lighter, and I think it has some potential as a mixer.

Update 2021 Eagle Rare is rare at MSRP is 33$ but good luck finding it(at any price). on the other hand, you can get 4-Roses anywhere anytime.. simple choice.. 4-Roses anytime.

Yea I always tell people the best starter bourbons are 1. Buffalo trace 2. Four roses small batch 3. Elijah Craig small batch 4. Woodford 5. Maker’s Then the next step up is 1.four roses single barrel 2. Eagle rare 3. Angels envy 4. Maker’s 46 5. McKenna bottled in bond
Everyone telling me the McKenna 10 year bottled and bond is good I had one pour and I guess it just doesn’t fit my flavor profile I found it disgusting.
That is what we wanted the show to say. No one can tell you if the whiskey is good. They can only tell their opinion. I’ve tried to like Scotch but I just can’t. I’m not sure if I’ve had McKenna yet.
My shelf agrees with your conclusion I have 3 unopened and 2 opened bottles of Eagle Rare and only 1 half full bottle of Four Roses SB. One exception is when I am manning the smoker or BBQ pit on a hot day, the FRSB just goes oh so well right then!

Great review guys. I found out about ER 6 years ago and it's in my top five. It was easy to get for 25 bucks but now since the word is out you be lucky to find for under 60. Cheers

Just bought my first bottle of Eagle Rare ($49.99 here, ouch). Really looking forward to trying it. Have a bottle of the Four Roses now, price was much closer to the video price, but I just don't like it very much. I'm a newbie and can't really describe all the scents and flavors, but I can tell that different whiskeys taste different (some genius level insight there huh?). Was disappointed with the Four Roses after I'd read/seen/heard so many good things about it.
I expected more from the Four Roses myself. That Eagle Rare is amazing for the price! If you are new to whiskey and you are wanting to learn to enjoy the nuances of the flavors stay away from ones that are Barrel Proof or proofed over 110. Save those for later. Also watch our episodes with the guys from Chattanooga Whiskey and the one with the JE Kelly guys. Those guys know their stuff. Thank you very much for your support and your time is appreciated.
Harmon Heat LoL more than I should. If I’m just buying to drink and not for the show ,which is exactly rare, I usually stick to Tennessee Whiskey but this Eagle Rare for the price is the best.

Single barrel comes from just one barrel. If you opened a whiskey barrel at a rick house stuck your head in the mouth full you got would be single barrel. Small batch would be from a smaller number of very similar barrels mixed together and then bottled.
Single barrel dose taste different from barrel to barrel. That’s the great thing about whiskey. Where you place the barrel how you rotate the barrel in the wear house. What the weather did while the whiskey was in the barrel. The quality of the barrel how long the whiskey was in the barrel. How much air got in the barrel....what are we talking about? Oh yeah. So many factors go in to the taste out of a single barrel. So when you get a single barrel ,especially from a smaller distillery, the taste can be noticeably different from barrel to barrel.
Paid $60 US and I wasted $60 BT is $30 could of bought 2 bottles and taste 100% better ! And you guys sound like a commercial 👎🏻 don’t buy it ! Over rated!

Eagle rare is the same distillery as Buffalo trace by the way, and a pretty obvious step up if you have developed your palate at all. Four roses is good for the price, about the same price as Buffalo trace and so far id say a tiny bit worse but maybe ill warm up to it as I work through the bottle. Both four roses and Buffalo trace have thinner bodies and a more dry spicy woody character that overwhelms the other flavors that so far i would say I don't see in bourbons at higher price points. To each his own, but I would say eagle rare is almost objectively worth the like 20 bucks more than both 4 roses and BT.

I have had both....I can get Eagle Rare (10yr) at my local Costco for 26.99 What a buy!

It means nothing in Whiskey terms. Some make it with a few barrels, some use 200 barrels like Elijah Craig Small Batch.
I buy four roses but I haven’t tasted the Small Batch.
