This transmission swap/ lock was a lot more work than I thought it was gonna be! The video definitely came out on the longer side, but it was a lot of footage! Thanks to everyone who tuned in for the Premiere too!

Nice locker design. Should be stout enough for mud mowing. I've actually watched 2x now. (Watch once and comment second time) Just after 19:00 when you do your patented hand slap sound, it was in perfect time to Chud's wheel in the video on the TV. 🙂 Hiccup... I caught Li'l Red on the TV back there in reassembly. Boy that's an oldie. I guess I lucked out that my 2300's have disk brakes on both instead of drums. Oh, I saw me and Kal. Excellent Assembly instructional! BTW that is a sweet hat Colt has. Hope this transmission works out where you do not have to hold the gear in place. Interesting, my 2300's don't have that top plug where you vented and filled. That would have been nice with mine. I ended up drilling a hole and tapping the shifter cone. Heading up the hill.... nice how a good locked trans performs going up the trail. 🙂 I bet it even felt safer! I saw you were still holding the shifter on the steep part coming down. I wonder if you still need to? Also, that muffler glow looks mean at 1:19:15 ...and sorry for the ADHD comments tonight. I felt I was all over the place with them. Great Video!

@@MightyRaze thank you for all the support, encouragement and advice Jerry!!!!! I / we appreciate you!! I’ve already put a few miles on this thing. So far the locker has held up with zero play developing. I believe all these John Deere 200’s are the exact same. As in they all have the same drum brake setup. When I built mine its got a 6” go kart brake with a hydraulic caliper and it’s been a fantastic setup so far. The hat Colt has is one of many I found on eBay! It’s a Confederate Air Force hat with a P51 Mustang on it. 😄 it was gonna be a hat I wore but it’s way too small. I ended up giving the boys a bunch of hats. I had high hopes this transmission wouldn’t pop out of gear, but unfortunately it already did. On that maiden voyage too. Only under engine braking does it happen. It’s never popped out under a forward load. It also only happens in 1st or second but those are the only two gears I use to go down steeper stuff. I’ve been getting faster and faster in the trail. Though. The “steep part” is still steep, no doubt. But today I drove up it on third gear and was on the throttle. Matter of fact, I drove from the bottom of the trail all the way to the top and third gear today. I think I’m going to make a simple device that can hold the shifter in first or second for me so I can have two hands on the wheel or at least have both hands free to drive. I really don’t notice much. What’s on the TV in the background while we’re out there working. The boys will put a playlist or whatever from somebody’s channel and just let it ride. Of course, will pick who channel on purpose but after that, who knows where it ends up. I thought it would be a cool idea. Once that second monitor went on the back wall and so far I dig it. And everybody else has noticed themselves on the TVs in the background too! So I guess it’s working out😄. I’m happy with this thing once again like I said so far and it’s not just my imagination that it’s definitely better. When it had all that slop in it before the wheels definitely moved independent of each other and made the backend unstable when climbing or descending. If something breaks, which I can only imagine would be the spider gear teeth. I’ll definitely let everybody know, but I don’t really anticipate that. It’s been holding up all this time with just weld between gear teeth and nothing broke. This has no play in it whatsoever, which means the gears cannot accelerate and then come to a sudden stop. There is also way more contact in there between everything. Time will tell and once again, I really appreciate all the support and help, advice with these projects!

Please excuse the grammar errors in the above comment, I used talk to text and that happened.
Also, the muffler glow is crazy! Does anyone else ever have that happen? That exhaust system/ muffler has been an issue since I built it. It gets so hot! I know it still runs rich sometimes. I can smell it. But it runs good at the same time so idk anymore 😂 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@Tennesseemountainhomestead I'll just reply to this one... 🙂 The TV's are cool. I haven't noticed my 2300's coming out of gear on downhill engine braking. But... isn't your brake and clutch separate? If so I wonder if it has something to do with that? I never separated my clutch/brakes. It's been a while since I was able to get my tractors out. Not since we went to Haspin in Indiana this past June. I'll try to push mine next time I can get out, hopefully this next month, and see what happens. I do know I put in new springs and balls in my shift forks last time I had it open. But that was mostly so I could find 2nd easier. LOL. As for the muffler... All my exhaust pipes are long so I do not know. I will say, my actual mower. The ST/16 sears suburban I mow with DOES get muffler glow after about 10 or so minutes. It's muffler is a short distance from the head. I'd say if it runs good, leave it. Easier to need to replace a muffler sometime down the road (that may not happen) than to go through the grief you had trying to tune it again. ... It does sound great in the videos! 👍

@@MightyRaze it only pops out of gear after a while of down hill engine braking. The clutch is fully engaged and I’m normally not on the brake. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@Tennesseemountainhomestead Only thing left I can think of is the spring and detent balls. If truly worn, I have heard that they could accidentally shift into two gears at once. I have only heard of that once on a tractor forum. It's why I replaced mine last time out. Both trans though? I wish I had more to share on that.

AAGH! Making us wait! It's ok, I'll be jumping back online for it later. 👍 Hole Saw locker?

@@MightyRaze I’ve never done the premier thing before, not sure what it did! I guess people can see it though 😄. The hole saw locker is a term I came up with because I used a hole saw to make the pieces I welded in the differential carrier.

Man I have John Deere 210 with the peerless 2300 or 2332. Really can read the tag. Dude your video helped put that joker back together. I’m just getting into these mud mowers. Thanks for all the knowledge you share

@@HanginWithHardin that’s awesome! I’m very happy to hear I helped you out with that!! This is one of the reasons I make videos. Are you building a mud mower out of your 210? I subbed your channel too!

@@Tennesseemountainhomestead thanks for the sub. Yes that’s the plan to build the 210. I have 2 of them was going to make a pulling tractor till I seen your videos. Got hook on the mud stuff. Do you think the k241 engine will be enough ???

@@HanginWithHardin depends on how good it runs and if you got any hilly terrain. My son has a Wheel Horse with a Kohler Magnum 10hp. It is a good motor but it doesn’t have enough power to pull 3rd gear uphill.
But he has a pulley swap, 7” engine pulley and 5” transmission pulley.
Are you planning on doing anything with the belt system? These tractors have variators and I don’t know (haven’t tried) to change pulley sizes with that variator. I’m on a bunch of FB groups and I’ve seen a few guys talk and ask questions about this subject. I think it’d be pretty hard to get that figured out, it would be a trial and error thing at best.
I completely removed the entire stock setup from my 214 and did a one off belt system with a single belt. It took a while and I had almost no experience with belt systems. After a crash course reading about belt systems online and watching all the TH-cam videos I could find, I was able to successfully build a setup that I haven’t changed to this day. It exceeded my expectations big time.
I did document the entire build on this channel. There is a playlist about how to build a mud mower from a JD 200 series. If you watch it, sorry in advance about my early antics and some shaky video here and there😅
We were trying to be entertaining and find our way back then. But it’s still good information. The best advice I can offer is make sure your pulleys are super strong. Make sure they’re perfectly aligned. Don’t have any idler pulleys on the tension side of the belt. And definitely build yourself some belt guides, keepers.
I don’t have very much experience with the stock belt setup. So I don’t know how well it would perform in water or thick mud. My son has a 212 that he uses around the property with a loader scoop and hitch to pull trailers. I’ll be interested in watching if and when you get going on yours.
