  • In this video, we will be talking about 7 things you can do in your evenings from the evening routine of Marcus Aurelius. Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor and a student of Stoicism. During his rule, Aurelius constructed a series of autobiographical writings, now known as the Meditations.
Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD and is considered as the last of the Five Good Emperors. During his time, he constructed a series of autobiographical writings known as the Meditations, in which he constantly advocated for finding stillness in life and while his meditations regularly speak of the importance of waking up early and seizing the day, he also stressed the importance of taking time to retreat into oneself and find stillness. Thanks to his journalling, we have a fair idea of what his evening routine would have looked like and in this video we will be diving into 7 different things Marcus Aurelius would have done in his evenings and how we can follow or adapt that routine to our modern day lives.
So here are 7 things you can do in your evenings from the evening routine of Marcus Aurelius -
    01. Eliminate external Stimuli
    02. Get some physical Exercise
    03. Review your day
    04. Contemplate your personal sage
    05. Take a view from above
    06. Spend time with family
    07. Prepare for mornings
I hope you enjoyed watching these 7 things you can do in your evenings from the evening routine of Marcus Aurelius and find them helpful in your life.
Even though Marcus Aurelius wrote it 2,000 years ago - his insights on Stoicism still carry strong weight today. Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

Marcus Aurelius says “Nowhere you can go is more peaceful, more free of interruptions, than your own soul. Retreat to consult your own soul and then return to face what awaits you”

    Video summary:
1- Eliminate external stimuli; disconnect. Look inward. Focus on yourself. Seek stillness. Meditate.
2- Get some physical exercise. Go for a walk, to the gym, play sport, etc.
3- Review your day. Examine your daily choices and practices to connect with your higher self. How can you learn from them? Work on them? Reflect on everything.
4- Contemplate your personal sage. What would your role model do? Did you act as your role model would?
5- Take a view from above; as if you are looking at yourself from the cosmos.
    6- Spend time with family.
    7- Prepare for mornings.

I gave up social media 5 months ago or so. I now use my phone for text, calls, and TH-cam. Best part is once I get home I hardly touch my phone and stay busy taking care of things until I get myself into bed at which point I read a little each night. @@jacekmiksza505 I hit the gym, I make the effort to go 5 days a week. That usually kills a good hour an a half of my time after work. Plus I'm a home owner so that comes with its own set of weekly responsibilities. I also have several fish tanks that require weekly maintenance so that takes up time as well. One of my hobbies is scale modeling, which I make an effort to do a few hours a week if I can manage, because its my firm belief that creativity is important for a healthy mind. Not to mention im also a step dad so I also squeeze in some time every night with the kiddo. Its funny, because I can tell your "question" was a feeble attempt at being snarky. Due to my work schedule im in bed pretty early (8:30 to 9 on average) and after I've read some, I watch some TV, maybe 30 minutes or so which is how I end my day. I cant help but feel you had this assumption that I gave up social media on my phone, and traded it for something along the lines watching TV for hours, or playing video games, or something along those lines, etc.. next time you wanna make a stab at someone it would probably help if you atleast knew the person. Point im driving with my initial comment was how much better I've felt since I disconnected. I dont impulsively pull my phone out, and I stay focused and accomplish task much more efficiently. If only more people would do the same, I think the world would be just alittle bit better, along with people not making assumptions about people they've never met.

After a string of personal disasters out of our control last year (death of two very old beloved dogs/companions, deaths of FIVE family members in unrelated incidents, a sudden legal attack based on inheritance estate issues, etc, all BEFORE we got got covid 19!),
I lost a ton of weight from stress, but it actually improved my health inadvertently, taking me to healthy blood pressure and out of diabetes danger. One day when out walking and worrying, I started slowly jogging along to stop thinking...I never ran before in my life, but it felt so good, I kept going. The next day I picked out my favorite tunes on my phone and started running to those...I had weak, out of shape muscles, but my mind felt so rested as I slowly loped along, that it was completely different than I had ever felt! I know this sounds incredibly simplistic, but I couldn't believe the strain I was under, until it lifted! Where I run around the lake near my house, neighbors walking by began to encourage me, to say hello, to smile. Wrapped up in my own problems, I hadn't even noticed other people, but I found myself looking forward to the friendly waves and kindness, especially as we were all now "locked down" and walking separately from each other. It has taken many months, but I have finally made it to five miles of meditation time while slowly running along every day...the only thing I am trying to achieve is serenity and a positive resilience inside, and a healthier life outside. I look forward to every day of knowing I have this time to see others, relax, and plan positive things...I hope someone who sees this will know that it is never to late to start. I am 60 years old! I am in better shape now than in my entire life, I feel better mentally than ever. Never give up! Every single day is new!

Mach1 GTX democracy is never accepting such leadership, unless you literally spread out elections to every decade and a half to mitigate its inherent abhorrent time-preference. All philosophers of antiquity spoke of democracy only pejoratively, as did the entirety of the American founding father, who created a representative republic that was only indirectly democratic. Propaganda has fooled people into believing America has always been about egalitarian principles and a democratic polity, but the truth is this was only incorporated during the descent of a once-singularly great nation. Democracy was worsened by the fact that arbitrary and drastic demographic changes both caused and solidified it. The country has been revolutionized, and once the south (which was the last western culture not based upon materialistic philosophies) was defeated, the path was all sail and no anchor. Anyone wanting a prescient and cogent prediction of this should read the very short letter of Thomas Macaulay to Stearns Randall in reply to the latter’s biography of Thomas Jefferson

15:36 Whenever i bring this point up (Forexample when my boyfriend complains about not having a lot of money), i just get "Just because others have it worse, doesn't mean you can't feel bad about your own problems". I regularly think how lucky i am to have a fridge full of food, a warm shower and bed, a healthy family etc. How many people in the world would love to trade places with me.
I know you need to balance being grateful and content with hopes, dreams and goals, but it seems like people only look at what they COULD have.

Brutally honest?? Well, the lucky person you're describing, is in the process of becoming the very one I feel lucky not to be. Sorry, but, from what I perceive, that's coming from the very comfort zone and complacency, that so many people opt for, which eventually turns them into either physical or mental invalids or both. Be aware, none if the stated is guaranteed to be permanent, so better get used to that idea. Just saying. :)

    • @gg_ingy
      @gg_ingy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

@@silkegehtyoutubegarnichtsa892 Unsure what you mean. You need to have a healthy balance in life when it comes to striving for more, and being content with the now.
When you look at people who have more money than you (As if that's the beacon of happiness, but besides the point), which was my example, you'll either get jealous, unhappy and/or resentful with your current life, or you do something to change the situation and make more money. Obviously the first choice (wether due to inabality or unwillingness) just brings negativity, and if you're not going to change the situation, then it's it's wise to "count your blessings". It's also wise to do that if you consider that you CAN make more money, but it will come at a cost elsewhere in your life.
There is nothing wrong with being grateful to live in a wealthy, safe country where your children are some of the happiest in the world. Acknowledging your privileged position in this world, making use of it, and being grateful for it, is also a form of respect to the people who are leading very hard and difficult lives.

I hope people who look at this video really implement these things for a better life.
