Trying Out Cup 2 Tires On My Shelby GT350

- Welp, I couldn't find any super sports so I figured this was a good opportunity to try out some Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on my 2017 Shelby GT350. I took the car for a quick drive on two different occasions. Once in the rain, and then once it dried up.

Any GT350 owners out there? If so, what tires y'all running?
20,600 miles on the stock Super Sports on my 2018 and still have ~40% tread remaining. I'll likely go with an identical set when it's time to replace them so long as they're available.
No better DOT cornering tire than Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires. Faster lap times and cheaper too! They perform equal to the Cup2s on track in the rain also. The 305 3Rs are as wide as the 315 Cup 2s. 🍻

I have michelin ps4s for daily/wet track day use and Michelin Cup 2s for dry track use, special events

Beautiful car, I love my cup 2s, I run the mich ps4s for daily use. The grip level difference is insane.
Those tar snakes are always slick. That sealant on the roads is slick.
I know a guy who has the Cup 2s on his BMW M4 and he daily drives his car with no problem. During the recent heavy rains we've had in California he drove them in the rain and did not have a problem, although he did have to be careful on his speed, when braking, accelerating and cornering. I recently installed them on my 370Z and love them.

Personal Opinion there is no reason to risk spinning out in wet conditions with the cup2s if you drive the car 100% of the time on street. Get the 4S, better than the SS and are great in the wet. The additional performance you are going to get out of the Cup2 isn't worth the safety risk. I actually went even more conservative since I daily my R and live in the NorthEast and got the All-Season Cooper RS3-G1. Honestly, I think they are a fantastic tire. Would rather have got the 4S but I don't think driving those in cold temps is smart and would be a safety issue like the Cup2s in the wet. if they are the "FP" branded Cup 2's (and not Cup 2's that come on the R) they are amazing for daily driving. My 19 came with the FP Cup 2's and driving in rain is 0 issue. Was blown away how good they are in wet.
SS tires have gotten me GREAT street mileage. Not always the best traction, but pretty good. 2nd pair including original in 42.8k miles....2017 GT350

I replaced the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on my 370Z with the Cup 2(240)s and I really like the tires.

So the biggest issue with C2 is the hydroplane. The lack of rain sythes traps water and at speed its a 100% white nuckle experience. Dry the C2 is far superior. Yes they are louder on rough concrete and asphalt.

Just bought some cup 2's as SS's aren't available. Started with rears only, will prob toss them on the front too.

Was there any release agent the tires and if so was it worn off or wiped with salient before the wet test?
Do you ever hit up Lime Creek road? I haven't been out there yet since I don't have a fun car right now and the X3 M40i isn't really suited for the twists and turns out there.
Should have got the PS4S. They are the superior tire to super sports in every way. Better dry and wet handling, and they aren't as track focused as the cup 2's. I took the cup 2's off my 2020 and replaced them with PS4S's in the R spec sizes. No tramlining and the ride is so much more comfortable than the cup 2's. I will save my Cup 2's for track days.

Great video man. Love your Shelby, beautiful car. What would you cross shop against the Shelby in the 60k range? Im looking for a new car but can’t make up my mind. I do like the C7 but the sound of the GT350 wins I think.
Go for the GT350, 2017+ have the Track Pack as standard(somebody took a non Track Pack to the track, broke down and Ford said no more base GT350).

Concerning your question about the GoPro ….. head/helmet mounted SUCKS. Just fyi ;)
Linear mode looks best because it doesn't distort the image. Super view is ok if you think there's something interesting in the peripheral vision. The middle one is the worst of both worlds. Just my opinion.

It’s funny, we just swapped, I must have bought the LAST full set of Supersports from Discount Tire for my 19, was just able to eeek out 10k miles on the Cup 2’s and she’s not my daily. Feels like I’m millimeters from steel belt showing. Gotta get Tread Connection out to my place very soon. But you can’t beat the Cup 2’s on hot dry asphalt! I was nervous watching you open it up on the wet roads, you’re much braver than me! 😅 Anyway, missed seeing the beast my friend, we need to get out more this Summer! 👊🏽👍🏽
