    In this video, we show you how to mount a Warn M8000 winch on a CBI Offroad Fabrication Hybrid Front Bumper. Winches come in all different shapes and sizes but the mounting of the winch onto the bumper should be similar with all winches. With different winch models, you'll have to see how it fits with the grill and alter the grill accordingly to make it fit. Some people opt to mount the control box in a different area, like the engine bay, but this will require you to extend all the electrical lines from the control box to the winch motor.
    Update: CBI no longer makes this bumper for 3rd Gen 4runners. We decided to keep this video on our channel for anyone who already owns a CBI front hybrid bumper or buys a used one and is looking for a good tutorial on how to install a winch on it.

    Another great vid.
    Would love to see you do a tutorial on relocating the winch control box. I just installed a Shrockworks bumper and that meant relocating the control box inside the engine bay. Used angle brackets to attach it to the battery tray, out of the way of everything.
    Not rocket science but would be handy to show folks how to extend the lines from the winch to the box without interfering with the belts, fan, etc.

      jake ounce Thanks Brother Jake. Based off the safety messages in the Warn user manual, I got my hands too close. You just need a healthy respect for what your working with. There's obviously other safety concerns when you're winching yourself or a buddy out that we could cover in a winching techniques video. If a steel cable snaps under load, that cable can spring back towards the user with a lot of force.

    • @8953147
      @8953147 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timmy The Toolman Absolutely brother Tim safety is Paramount when that cable is under tension, and a lot of people don't respect that aspect of using this tool. When I was in the Navy, they showed us videos of ship's ropes that were under tension and, when they snapped, it cut the mannequins in half. Now that was ropes, so you can only imagine what cable will do to a body.

    For arb bumpers.. clocking the winch is required. You got a nice plug and play setup!

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What does clocking entail? Pulling the winch apart and getting the winch aligned in the proper orientation?

    • @MinhBui-ni1by
      @MinhBui-ni1by 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timmy The Toolman it involves rotating the winch so you can get to that lever since its not always on ideal spot. I believe they are 12 degree increments or something like that. I think you can do the battery connections too.

    Where i am on Long Island NY.. there are more Jeep Mall Crawlers than u you can shake a stick at.. take a $40k jeep with$25k worth of upgrades... see it every day.

      Yeah, the building of Mall Crawlers and Bro Dozers is something I don't understand because I'm a Function Guy not a Form Guy. It seems a lot of people do expensive modifications just for the looks. It makes sense if you're fixing up say a classic car that you take to car shows. But, putting 10k into suspension for a 4wd so you can drive it around on the street? I don't get that at all. I told myself if I put money into a rig, I'm going to wheel it. if it gets scratched or dented, oh well.

    Hey Timmy--I have a 98 Tacoma 4wd. Could you do a video on changing the front and rear differential fluid?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have a 30,000 Mile Service video that covers that. Here's a link: th-cam.com/video/a81i1Cayf_I/w-d-xo.html If you're struggling to get the front differential drain bolt or fill plug free, I suggest you apply some heat to the plug with a butane torch. 30 seconds is enough heat to loosen the bond of the plug and washer. The drain plug on the front diff is well known to be extremely hard to break free so don't strip it. Heat is your friend. The rear diff should be a piece of cake to do. Just watch the video. In the video description, we put times to different parts of the video so you can go right to the part you want to see.

    Love the video can you tell me did you have any problems with running control pack ground wire to frame as warn said has to be to bottom of winch to ground.. is it causing a draw problems ??? Thanks

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, everything is fine with how my winch was wired. I've used the winch a couple times so far and all is good. I connected the ground wire to the body and I think that's fine. Ground wires from the negative terminal of the battery are grounded to the body in the engine compartment. I don't have any parasitic draw if that's what you're asking.

    • @sheerwillsurvival2064
      @sheerwillsurvival2064 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timmy The Toolman thanks I followed your advice and use bolt on radiator cross member winch works great but every time I use it my dash changes to menu and fuel economy called warn they asked if I used bottom of winch I said no they said that body ground is not battery ground which is to engine Iam like but their connected he said no its not so I gotta take whole bumper cover grill off of it as it’s a Grand Cherokee crazy I don’t get it I thought it was ground is ground 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sheerwillsurvival2064 Interesting. All that wire says is motor ground, so I figured grounding it wherever is fine. I guess if I run into any issues I'll know why. Like I said the battery is grounded to the body so why can't the winch be grounded there. Weird.

    There is a reason that there is no washers other than the lock washer in that kit. Firstly: regular washers are for distributing the load over a wider area when bolting softer things, you don't need that on a steel bumper. Secondly: you acctually negate the purpouse of the lock washer by putting a washer in between it and the bumper, now the lock washer only lock the nut to the washer, witch is free to rotate.

    • @antonw-uw4ov
      @antonw-uw4ov 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem, though in this application I doubt it makes a difference. Its more important in applications with intense vibration. One reason for manufacturers to include a flat washer applied in the way you did is if the items you're bolting together has a less durable paint that will be pealed by the lock washer thus exposing the metal around the bolt hole to rust. But in that case you might as well skip the lock washer and use locktite. Anyhow: nice install video.

    why didn't you fit the solenoid inside the engine bay, i know it's more work but would have saved the grill & the look more flush...just an idea.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ahmed, I knew that was an option but it didn't bother me to notch the grill. I'm much more of a function guy than a form guy. I know looks are super important to some people but I'm not one of them. Maybe I'm weird but I actually like the look of the grill notched for the solenoid. The extra work to mount the solenoid in the engine bay didn't seem worth the trouble. When we get around to installing a winch on Sean's ARB bumper, I think we have no choice but to move the solenoid in the engine bay because of the way the ARB bumper is designed.

    Timmy,
    Is that a Tundra transmission cooler?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's a B&M 70264 cooler. Here's a link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CIIDZE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm running them on both of my 3rd Gens. I run them in-series with the trans cooler in the bottom of the radiator. The ATF runs through the radiator cooler first, then runs to the B&M cooler and finally back to the transmission. Some people bypass the radiator cooler fearing a cooler failure and then a mixing of the engine coolant and ATF that ruins the transmission (known as the pink milkshake). I did quite a bit of research and decided to not bypass. However, I did replace my radiators as preventative maintenance to lessen my chances of having a cooler failure. Here's a link to the video of me installing the cooler on my 2000: th-cam.com/video/2nVbwe2t2T8/w-d-xo.html
