This song, to me, is a call for unity after it's most likely too late. To stop fixating on what separates us and work together for the betterment of our planet and species. It's a call that goes unanswered, and the second half of the song is the passing of millennia. The ending waves symbolize something new crawling ashore to try again...
I LOVE this interpretation! I thought exactly what you stated in the first half of your statement but hadn't thought of the time passing through the millennia and the waves crashing for life to try again part. Very good! 👏
You put into words exactly how this song makes me feel. It’s about how desperately we need to fix our world, how we need to better ourselves for future generations, before it’s too late. Climate change is scary stuff man
This album is wildly prophetic. I have to say, I see little of the "climate change" interpretation of this song. Maynard's got a long established history of using easy to understand language to point to a deeper, internal message. This song, to me, as about the societal collapse that inevitably occurs as a result of the breakdown of the individual's responsibility and self-discipline. If you can't master yourself, fixing the climate is far beyond your capacity to manage.
When I hear the gong crash at about 12:00, I imagine Maynard just eyeballing the @#$@ of me and pointing to the horizon. Go. Go do the thing that I just told you to do. Do better. also, interesting interpretation about the 2nd half of the song. I'll have to thing about that next time I listen to it. . I like to compare Maynard on 'Aenema' to this track, and how the passage of years has changed him from 'let California crack off and drown' to 'sound the alarm.' That's why I take a more optimistic interpretation.
Reading these comments reminds me how lucky I am to be a part of the TOOL army! It lets me know there is still hope for this planet still. One thing about Descending, the song is cut EXACTLY into 2 pieces. The first half is the with lyrics and the second half being an instrumental. The song is exactly 13:39 in length. At the 6:49 1/2 minutes Maynard utters the last word 'order', and then the other 6:49 1/2 is the beautiful instrumental. Of course, they did it on purpose, but it's still an interesting fact about the song. It has become my favorite tool song, as it is hard to beat such a masterpiece. When I listen to the second half, I imagine being on a raft heading down, river, but I have no oars, so the currents control the craft. At one point in the song, and if you listen, you'll be able to figure it out, but at one point the raft goes over a waterfall, and then eventually reaches the end of the river which drains into the ocean. It's quite the ride! Rock on! Personally, I would not have told you to listen to the new stuff yet. It seems too early in your journey to take up the broad strokers. Everyone now will be begging for Invincible or 7empest, both from Fear Inoculum, but you should really listen to more of the older tunes. There's plenty to choose from. Then circle back later with these newer pieces. Keep everyone waiting. lol You can't make a bad choice, although some might catch you off guard. Any way you proceed, enjoy the ride! BTW, I see you're checking out Baby Metal, but the better Japanese band to check out is Band-Maid. Sebs...first of all, as an OGT it's been so much fun watching your journey with Tool, your reactions showcase what we all love so much about this band. I had a very similar experience with my 1st daughter as you are having now, my wife and I didn't sleep for the first 18 months, we constantanly had to go to doctor visits, the ER, and it was one of the most tramatic experiences of our lives. For now you'll have to embrace the suck, stay positive, be supportive, it's ok to be frustrated with the situation, there are many of us out there that have been through the same. Thank you for making this content, thank you for sharing your life, and thank you for being yourself. Tool will be your best friend for the rest of your life now...you'll also love your APC and Puscifer experiences, Maynard's talent has no bounds. Now go get some rest!
Next up: 10 000 days Written after Maynard's mother died. His mother was a profoundly religious woman who became severely paralysed after a cerebral aneurysm. Afterwards she became unable to raise Maynard. Maynard became increasingly bitter/angry with god for punishing the - in his eyes -most devoted follower of his teachings. She kept her faith during her entire - paralysed - life, something Maynard didn't understand and resulted in struggles and discussion between the two. Eventually, when she died, he came to accept her faith and made this song to notify God that one of his most devoted followers was on her way and for him to take care of her. - invincible This song is about ones realisation that he is past his prime self and the internal struggle of holding one to ones ego/pride or letting go and moving on finding a new journey/adventure.
I dont think I have seen any different reactioners to Tool get into it the way we did when we began our Tool journey, like you do. Its an honor to watch!
When my boy was 3-4 months old and wouldn't sleep I used to pace up and down the kitchen with him on my chest and whistle random tunes or specific songs. Worked great after a bottle, esp the early morning ones. Really enjoying your reactions. Depending on your beliefs, the thing you need will either be there if you look for it, manifest through your energy, or will be waiting for you when you are ready. Many people who hear Tool aren't listening, or open to feeling the experience that we love them for. Watching you experience these songs for the first time and sharing these feelings again with someone who appreciates it is a gift. So thank you.
Parenting sounds like it takes a very strong willed and responsible type of person. I am thankful my parents were like you and many of your viewers from reading the comments. All I can say is tough it out. It is worth it. I am rooting for the real ones out there. Good parents will shape the future in the right direction..
When Tool really connects with people its deep and its lifelong from the early angry stuff to the philosophical almost spiritual big almost orchestral sound
This song to me is about a call to arms through our collective consciousness to the primal "body" of all of humanity to rise up now and act before it's too late. Not just to rise up off our couches and do something but to rise, ascend in our vibration/energy/spirit; for us to change now and ascend to the next density as our world shifts consciousness and shifts its actual position in the galaxy (check out the Great Year or earth's 26000 year procession) to one of higher electrical energy (Tesla's electric universe theory); the shifting between the age of Pisces and age of Aquarius. The saying goes "we are on this rock flying through space", or floating even. But floating isn't infinite as the movement of our planet is caused by gravity and electrical fields. The gravity of our sun, nearby planets, and each other star continued on to the center of our galaxy, is all pulling us as we fall through this space. Falling isn't flying, we will not float forever. If we want to fly and reach the infinite consciousness then we must wake from this slumber (the saturn frequency), wake from this lower vibrational matrix this world has us in and rise to stay alive, lest this be our swan song and epilogue. This reflects on not only the cosmic transition our planet is going through now, but the associated vibrational and spiritual change, to the current socio and political climate changing as globalism/communism/luciferianism/'cult of El' tries to take over and the world's collective consciousness is beginning to push back and not consent! We may just be in earth's and humanities swan song, "to be or not to be". Will we rise, or descend? The song itself even fights against it's own title as it ascends in tone, energy and speed etc throughout, willing us through all aspects of this song to not descend but to fight against that and ascend.
And this album truly does showcase Adam's guitar work more prolifically than any album before it. SO much more of what would traditionally be considered solo work.
I listened to this everyday on my drive to work in a hospital lab when the pandemic first started. Can confirm this hits different when you really do feel like you are mustering every fiber...for the one tribe to stay alive...
The calm you bring into a situation reflects and helps calm the situation. The song is sounds from underwater walking up onto the shore with the waves, at the end of the song it’s you walking back into the water and going under the water. Full circle you end where you begin.
I think invincible or the patient are definitely two more songs that would really help you to calm your mind in those frustrating and challenging times for you and your family. Love your reactions man, keep your head up and be brave/strong for your family 👍 :)
Maynard once mentioned while being interviewed by Joe Rogan that for people to end the division and come together it would take a cataclysmic event like a meteorite striking and causing significant damage to everyone's daily life. That's how I interpret this song. He's calling out to God or the universe to intervene in some way. The song opens up with waves crashing to the shore. It's like the calm before a meteor strikes and causes significant loss of life. I doubt Maynard actually wants that to occur. The same way that Aenema is not meant to be taken literally.
Sebs, I've been watching you on this journey and loving every moment. We waited 13 years for this album to finally come. I still find the title track, Fear Inoculum to be the most moving. It's my go to on this album because of how it moves me. Consider putting yourself in the same situation as us and waiting 13 years for new music by a band we can't get enough of, and then listen to the title track with that kind of anticipation. They released the song about a month before the album came out and it still has me on the floor. Just phenomenal. It's got a groove and beauty that stands out on the album. I listened to it with goosebumps the first time I heard it and every time since. Highly recommend reacting to it and follow along with the words. This was released just months before the pandemic and feels prophetic. Cheers man. Hope to see your impression of this suggestion soon.
"mitigate the ruin, call us all to arms and order." were too comfortable and to awake us we need "the dread alarm to our primal body" to keep us on track
Invincible from this same album is an absolute must! I've listened to this one and Pnuema more than any other from this album. Talking about the journey through it all and to me this song was meant for the older Tool fans who've followed them all this time and grown together but how were getting older and less Invincible than when we were younger. There's more to it than that of course but I feel you'll get it and it would play right along with where you are now. Can't wait for more and welcome to the Tool Army fam!
food for thought at 6:10 IMPO: Tool's music has a definite and unique way of guiding your train of thought onto the rails that gently take you to what they want to show you. Everyone who can connect to this music get's something out of it they can use. Hence Tool. I know you haven't gotten to Lost Keys + Rosetta Stoned, as it's a fun mess around track, not a spiritual journey, but there's a line Maynard says "A message to those that choose to hear it, and a warning to those who do not". With that, and to return to the point of this; It seems like everyone these songs touch reach similar conclusions, albeit from different starting points. Like the Theory of Evolution's convergent evolution, as if it were convergence of ideas from people with different pasts, situations, and conditions who's only connection is Tool. TL;DR: I'm a guy on the internet, blah blah, sciency, spiritual stuff Edit: I've already seen this video 4 times as of writing this, but the reaction is the same as mine, and analysis is spot on, so I keep coming back.
Another vote for Tempest. Adam just wanders off for almost 5 minutes with all sorts of riffs. As a Tool fan that never wants their songs to end, Tempest gladdens my heart!
It is fascinating for me to hear such a clear and beautiful voice from a man of 57 years who sings so long. His voice sounds so velvety and young and soft at parts where he wants and so rough and strong at other parts. And it is nice to watch someone gets excited for the firt time.
7EMPEST! You are ready! It"ll take your brain a few listens to process, but it's a ride you won't be able to get off. As with all Tool songs, the more you revisit, the deeper you are hooked! Keep at it, love your reactions!
Loving your genuine Tool reactions. I think that you are going to absolutely love Jambi, because Adam uses a voice box, and he gets some really sick guitar sounds. I also think that Invincible is going to blow you away! Sick, sick, sick riffs and bass with an awesome look into aging and seeing the downslope of our lives.
I LOVE your tool reaction videos. They popes up on my random home page cuz a friend of mine never heard of Tool. I find myself now watching your videos on my walks(and I walk alot)more than I listen to the actual songs. Also, I have 2 kids and I know it's rough at times. Keep up the positivity and amazing things will happen before you even know it. Your gonna be a great dad. Take it one step at a time.
To me the general theme of this song is about being complacent in your own destiny, allowing things to go bad because you were not diligent enough, you allowed the end of your story to be muddled by your own doing/not doing enough. More specifically I think this song is about the lawsuit Tool was in for YEARS that delayed the making/release of this album (their Epilogue of sorts). The lawsuit could have been avoided if they were more diligent I think. The lawsuit could have potentially ended their careers. "Calling all to arms and order" I think has a general meaning of saying "ok it's time to fight and fix this" but also refers to the actual trial/lawsuits like being called to order by a judge.
Looks like I’m a couple months late to the party, but it’s been a pleasure watching you experience this band for the first time. Far too many don’t get it, and maybe aren’t ready for it, but you understand it through and through. This is the best band of our generation.
I would recommend some of the older stuff. Bottom and Flood are great songs off of Undertow, their 1993 release with Sober on it. It's a dark album, hearing their growth as a band is really amazing.
Adam solo was epic. 4 perfects musicians together that’s what you get. I run 4 km with Aenima album 3x a week. Descending is one of their longest track with Lateralus. You can find a dev version of Descending , they called that Ascending or something similar.
This song I like listening to with the position of its at face value. It’s a last battle cry, a call to arms, this is the song to round up every soldier and to charge into the final battle. We are dying today, but we will die on our feet. It’s the answer to invincible. No we are not unkillable, no we are not everlasting, but it’s these last moments that will become legendary. And the somber aura of understanding these are our last moments.
Invincible off the same album. Best song on the album IMO. In 1993 i went to Lollapalooza in Atlanta. Like the majority of people I was there to see Rage Against the Machine. Some time mid-afternoon 4 guys walk out on stage and start to play. About one minute into them playing I gave my buddy the "holy shit who is this" look. I couldnt get to a record store quick enough the next day. They have been my favorite band ever since, hands down. No other band comes close.

I switched every user name I have to this one, the day they released the name of the album. Invincible is another great song off of Fear Inoculum. You should definitely check it out.
Adam has a floor keyboard arrangement as an attachment to his pedalboard, it looks kind of like the foot pedals on an organ. He does the more mid frequency synth, and I think Danny has something similar and occasionally adds a more bassy synth as well
There are a number of fantastic songs originating from Maynard's dealing with his mother's situation and the coming about of his son. SO much great music you haven't experienced yet. 🤘🏼
Nice reaction. Glad you’re enjoying the Tool journey. You should check out 10,000 days/wings for Marie. Emotional sing about Maynard’s mother. I would suggest researching the backstory before listening. Cheers!

Hey man, hang in there with the kids. Tru and remember that the lack of sleep makes everything else seem so much worse than it is. . .one day soon you'll wake up after an 8 hour sleep and when you look back on it you'll realize that you can handle it. . .and from them on you'll be stronger all around. . .speaking from experience here. . .went through it with 2 of 3 of my kids. . .second was so much harder, more to coordinate. . .but it gets better, I promise. . Oh and pay attention to your wife. . .make sure she knows your there for her as well as the kids. . .can be hard sometimes but I promise it'll be worth it all soon.
They played part of this live on Halloween 2015 , I was there ( the song wasn't complete) if you can find the TH-cam video (monster mash , Tempe Beach Arizona) you can hear Maynard vocalizing and understanding how they put songs together.
I've seen Adam play synth parts with his foot Pedals and play guitar atThe same time, but I've also seen him with a synth in a stand so it could be either or. Also, Danny his synth triggers on his kit so sometimes he is the one that's responsible
I think at the last show I saw for Fear Inoculum Maynard had a keyboard that he pivots in and out of position. But as always it was hard to see. I could be wrong. Whatever it is, it's hard to believe there are only 3 people playing.

I would really want him to wait a bit more and listen to other stuff of Tool before getting into Rosetta Stoned
@@lich-c Lost key/ Rosetta stoned needs to be 2nd to last , Last song should be Disposition reflection Triad , my fav song of all time
@@lich-c agreed, I feel like he's skipping the substrate/foundation of the band by skipping the older simpler stuff. it's like making the stand your first stephen king book. stinkfist/prison sex/eulogy should be que'd up next.
@@jaymecarlson8685 I think listening to the older stuff first gives a new type appreciation for what they are now. For me, part of the magic of Tool is hearing their growth and maturation from album to album
Hallelujah!! That's how I feel when I experience Tool! My soul gets healed EVERY time!!
Best Tool reactions I've ever seen, this dude makes me experience tool again like I did when I was younger. Good work bro

Written after Maynard's mother died.
- invincible
This song is about ones realisation that he is past his prime self and the internal struggle of holding one to ones ego/pride or letting go and moving on finding a new journey/adventure.
I dont think I have seen any different reactioners to Tool get into it the way we did when we began our Tool journey, like you do. Its an honor to watch!
This song always makes me tear up.
DISPOSITION REFLECTION TRIAD , these trio come together , don't split them up please
I 2nd this!! D/R/T is the Tooliest Tool Tool ever Tool'ed imo.
@@BricktowneMedia It's Tool, wrapped in Tool and stuffed inside a Tool. Enigmas...pshhh...those are games for children.
* 'The Holy Trinity' is just pure perfection
imo..

Could I recommend Tool - Eulogy? Also, if you're a fan of Maynard, I'd suggest his other projects, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer
Eulogy very underrated
@@bullpup33 my fav Tool song :D
Fun fact, if the album art is folded in half (left to right), the TOOL logo becomes a syringe
I see Descending as the more mature older brother to Ænima. They told us to learn to swim, then we can hear the flood waters approaching...
Parenting sounds like it takes a very strong willed and responsible type of person. I am thankful my parents were like you and many of your viewers from reading the comments. All I can say is tough it out. It is worth it. I am rooting for the real ones out there. Good parents will shape the future in the right direction..
One of the best pieces of music ever created.
This is my favorite song.
Whoa. That’s deep. Thank you.
You are most welcome. Thank you for taking the time.
Watching you fall in love with Tool is awesome to see. Makes me fall in love with them all over again. Great job continuing the Tool journey.
Invincible is my life song right now. I may be old & broken but I can still fight
Straight up the album is the anthem for the pandemic . I can’t stop listening to it
My favorite Tool song. Something about it just touches every part of my humanity.
7:14 It is! Maynard's vocals are humanity's treasure
TOOL is musical perfection.
One of my favorite Tool songs.
For me this song hit me hard during some pretty serious depression. It was and still is exactly what I need.
to me the song is a prophecy of the fall of mankind
Yeah I agree with you
Invincible from this same album is an absolute must! Can't wait for more and welcome to the Tool Army fam!
food for thought at 6:10
IMPO: Tool's music has a definite and unique way of guiding your train of thought onto the rails that gently take you to what they want to show you.
TL;DR: I'm a guy on the internet, blah blah, sciency, spiritual stuff
Edit: I've already seen this video 4 times as of writing this, but the reaction is the same as mine, and analysis is spot on, so I keep coming back.
It's beautiful to watch an intelligent person discover the power of this band! They create masterpieces. Great reaction brother!
First!!! This is my favorite track off the new album. ❤
The best part about this journey is that you still have so much to experience.
Reflection is beautiful and trancy with a slight middle eastern feel. The lyrics made me cry the first time I heard it.
The climax of Descending always make me cry!!!! It is crazy how it touches my soul everytime!!! Spiral Out my friend!!!
What an amazing song man, can't wait for invincible.
'Flood' goes F*CKING HARD.. It's one of their best songs imo..

Can't believe I finally get to see Tool live for the first time in Houston in February!
Your candidness is refreshing ❤️ I look forward to your continued Tool journey 🌀😊
The album art is a 3D spiral mirrored
Hey Sebs i used to lissen to Tool (46/2 when my kid where little and could lay on his tommy on my forarm... and now 13 years and came home from school with joy in his voice. Dad lissen to this and he played Tools new album for me.... and now we are going to se TOOL in the new year.
Happy journey in the future
To me this song is about our apathy to the planets dying.
This is the greatest Tool song ever written. Hands down
Really like your reaction videos!
You have so many Tool songs to experience.
Keep it going 😀👍
Dude you wanna see Adam flex?? Listen to 7empest
Adam goes full beast mode.
Tempest next Please!!!!💯🔥🎶🌀😎
A masterpiece. Pure and simple.
And when you fold the TOOL logo in half on itself it becomes a syringe 💉 🤯
Loving your journey, brother 🙏
I haven’t even gotten to the song and I’m already PUMPED. 🙏🏼🌊
I switched every user name I have to this one, the day they released the name of the album. Invincible is another great song off of Fear Inoculum. You should definitely check it out.
Adam has a floor keyboard arrangement as an attachment to his pedalboard, it looks kind of like the foot pedals on an organ. He does the more mid frequency synth, and I think Danny has something similar and occasionally adds a more bassy synth as well
It's great watching you go through this journey. I did it exactly a year ago. I'm going to their show in January.
Sebscribed!
There are a number of fantastic songs originating from Maynard's dealing with his mother's situation and the coming about of his son. SO much great music you haven't experienced yet. 🤘🏼
Love it. Love it all. My favorite song...
Tragic and emotonially beautiful
I was getting excited that you were getting excited
Been waiting for this one, my personal favorite on the new album, at least this week.
Cheers!
Nice reaction. Glad you’re enjoying the Tool journey. You should check out 10,000 days/wings for Marie. Emotional sing about Maynard’s mother. I would suggest researching the backstory before listening. Cheers!
I am pleased to say I saw you go from a little boy to growing hair on your chest since starting your Tool journey a month or two ago. You are ready now, my brother.
"Stir us from our wanton slumber" is the theme for the last 2 years.

Hey man, hang in there with the kids.
@@LanceThompsonKssooner that's a possibility too,I know he plays guitar and keyboard occasionally on songs
