I lost my mom 9 months ago. I still can't realise her loss.... I miss her so much! Sometimes I feel so lost and alone that the pain gets even tougher. She was my beacon, the ever-fixed point of my life.... I love you mommy!

Miss my mom so much. She was an adventurous, strong, smart woman. She loved shoes. She was so practical and never had time to indulge herself raising us kids and taking care of dad after he broke his neck and was paralyzed. She did always look great. She had a great fashion sense.
I learned so much from her. Never forgotten, always in my heart, I love you mom.
I had a similar mom. My dad was blind, he lost his eyesight at age 3. So my mom did more than most spouses need to do. She was also a pilot and she would try almost anything. She looked tidy and smart every day, and loved shoes like your mom. I miss her so much. You and I are so lucky to have had amazing parents! God bless you!!

You are very lucky to have such wonderful style memories of your mother. My mother was a depression child and everything was function only. I lived off church cast off's and church rummage sales until I was in college and saved enough for my own sewing machine and started making my own clothes.
So nice that you have great relationships with your in-laws. My mother in-law is 93, and still quite stylish, a wealth of knowledge, and a sweetheart as well.

My beloved Mom died almost two years ago and I still grieve, but it’s gradually becoming less painful, finally. She was not only my one and only Mom, but she was my best friend. Not only did we tell each other everything, we always had so much fun together. So many outdoor adventures, lunches and shopping, road trips, improvement projects and goofy schemes of hers! One treasured memory is of her waking me before dawn, with an old pair of army surplus boots, telling me to put them on. She wanted to immediately go down to a ravine (we were on our country property) and dig up some native ferns to transplant them to the house. So, we did, in only our nighties and enormous army boots, laughing at trying to dig in the dark like madwomen, long before the sun came up! BTW, the ferns grew beautifully in their new spot!

My mom would have been 98 today. She passed away at age 96. She taught me “everything in moderation.” She loved well, so I memorialize her by continuing to love. Thank you for sharing your memories of your mom with us.

Thanks Beth. Mom had a strong sense of color and artistry in the furnishings and decor in our home, along with a sense of simple but stylish design in her clothing choices. Mom and Dad had a family of one son and four daughters- and we certainly were not well off. However, I do not remember feeling deprived, as Mom sewed for us all the time. Dad used to say that Mom could make something out of nothing - and she was famous for designing and redesigning garments from boxes of used clothing given to our family, sewing us beautiful dresses and coats from hand me downs! Being a seamstress made Mom a gifted designer! Though Mom died suddenly when I had just turned 19, she left me with a legacy of an inherited love of beauty in my home and my wardrobe!
What wonderful memories to share. Thank you. I lost my parents 2 years ago. 3 weeks apart. Sundays are still hard for me. I always seem to be laughing and crying on Sundays. I pray that anyone who may read this, and are missing someone, will soon have your sorrow turned into beautiful memories and joy. Grieving is a hard process. Give yourself time. It does get better. 💖

My mum always knew what styles suit me and even when I tried other styles she was always honest with me telling me it would not suit me and she was always right. She was always ahead of fashion which always shocked me as she would tell me to buy something and it always came along a few months later. I miss her so much xx

The first gift my husband bought me 59 years ago is an Angora sweater. I still have it! (rarely worn) My mother was immaculate about everything and I still quote her many sayings. Her memory is still dear after 47 years without her. I always strive to be as good, but as an individual I frequently fall short. So many questions I wish I had asked. She was always stylish and sewed hers and my clothes. I learned to be creative with putting things together. Dressing should be as exciting as a painting. It is now our job to pass down memories to our grandchildren.

She was an amazing woman! I'm blessed to have had her in my life for so many years.
I miss my mom too. She died on March 4th, 2023. I cannot believe it will be a year in a few days. One thing I will always remember about her was her polished look. She never went out of the house looking sloppy. Her hair was done, always lipstick, nice jewelry and classic clothes.
I lost my mother a month ago. She was 90 years old. She worked so hard. A wonderful selfless woman. God bless our mothers. 😢❤❤❤

I am 72, and one of the many reasons I love your channel is your sense of style! Like you, I learned much from my mom about skin care and fashion. My mom went work outside of the home when I was in the second grade, and I’ve always said I was one of the original latchkey kids! She worked in a high end department store and dressed the part, too.

This made me cry because I’m picturing my mother and shopping with her as a little girl. Holding hands going down the escalator and having lunch at the Foley’s or Sakowitz tea room was our ritual. Later, as a teenager, we didn’t see eye-to-eye concerning fashion. She wanted me to do the classics and I wanted peasant blouses and bell bottoms. Yikes! That’s when I got a small clothing allowance and no longer shopped with her. I miss her so much! Great tips, Beth.
I was revisiting this video, and just had to comment again. You were lucky to have such a beautiful fashion forward mother - tall, thin, bright and vibrant - all things to admire. But most of all, she gave you the tools to know how to take care of yourself and recognize its importance. I hope I’ve given my daughter that same sense of self. This vlog is so welcome and timely because my own fashion icon mom is in hospice right now at the end of a wonderful life well lived. Her lessons helped me develop confidence in my own style from lingerie to long coats. Because of my mom, I know when an outfit works, and when it does not work. While I don't always follow her aesthetic, the lessons are forever in my subconscious. Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories.

My mum has been gone for 30 years and my dad for 50 years. My dad was a politican and my mum always looked stunning a tall elegant lady. I agree with the style icon etc they are an icon for us. You speak so lovingly of her and she would be so proud of you

Your memories brought back my memories of shopping trips with my mother and grandmother as I was not just the only daughter in a family of boys, but also the only granddaughter. I am so blessed to still have my mother. She’s 98 and still has “all her marbles” (her words).

Love this. I lost my mom when I was only 8 years old. I don't remember as much about her personality as I would like, however I remember her outfits, how she styled them and the "special" perfume sitting on her dresser! Her mother was a professional seamstress and most often made bridal gowns, so clothes were always important to them both. thanks Beth!

I remember her beautiful dresses, many she made herself and fancier ones she bought in the department store she worked in…always looked put together. My Mom taught me to sew and every detail about clothing construction and quality. I still use this training constantly, in both doing my own alterations and when shopping, I look for the best quality available (below designer prices). I only can wear natural fibers, so that pushes me into the top range of the high-street market and designers that aren’t (yet) household names, so naturally I have to pay more than some buyers. I will pay $200-300 for a great quality cashmere sweater, for example, but not ten times that for a Loro Piano! Even quality, durability and timelessness have upper limits, the extra cost is just for status, which I don’t care about at all. Thanks to Mom for teaching me a million much more important things, but, most pertinent to this video, also including how to identify quality wardrobe items and those that flatter my body shape. I find it strange that the cheapest possible price seems to be the principal criterion when choosing clothes and accessories, here in the US. We Americans have very unrealistically low ideas of what decent-quality clothes and other wardrobe items cost to make. There’s no such thing as a quality $5 tee or $10 jeans. Even as a teenager in the 70s, clothes were never that cheap, because they were good quality, unlike most of today’s. Those super-low prices at fast-fashion brands are only possible because of crappy synthetic materials and poor construction quality, not to mention the worker exploitation and abuse, and environmental damage.

This was an amazing video. I loved seeing photos of your life as a child. You have brought back memories for so many women. My mom was a dressmaker and an artist in making clothes. She made all my clothes until I was 20, after which I made my own - often from patterns in the Burda, or from Vogue, Butterick, Simplicity or McCall patterns. She said that as a poor girl I needed three things: To be able to make my own clothes, to be able to hold an intelligent conversation, and to be well-mannered at all times. After her death, people would come up to me and tell me how smart she was when she was young.
I love white tops, too, I wear them more than any other color. It’s impossible to have too many, because different levels of formality, fabric types and weights, construction/weave types (plain woven, knit, silky), sleeve lengths, fit and other style aspects can be endlessly varied. My white silk, classic, two-pocket shirt is my most-worn item. I just love white clothes in general, it’s my favorite wardrobe color in everything, even jeans/trousers, and shoes and bags. It feels so clean and fresh and a white top is practically a trademark of my style.

Thank you for this video! I really loved it, and we share a lot of similar memories of our Moms. I lost mine in 2002. She was a gorgeous woman, inside and out. The example of always being well-groomed anytime you step out of the house, the shopping sprees that included lunch and dessert, making clothes together -- all are similar experiences that I had with my mom. She also had two sisters but she was the youngest, and I used to love to sit and listen to all their stories. And my mother used to describe her outfits from her younger days to me too. I was an only child, and my mother and I were very close. Thank you again for this trip down memory lane and the opportunity to once again honor our mothers.

My mom always wore her lipstick too! When the funeral director came to get her from the hospital I had her lip stick on her plus her earrings. She looked beautiful! She didn’t have many clothes, but they were expensive and beautiful. She wore an 81/2 narrow in shoes, and she always wanted nice shoes too! My mother passed away on December 26, 1995. I miss her terribly.
Oh, Beth, my mom was also very stylish and elegant. I always love to see her 1940s 1950s photos. She too made sure my sister and I wore classic styles of clothes, I miss her so much

This triggered memories of my own mom, who died more than 20 years ago. But my memories of Mom's style are different than yours.
Mom was colorblind. Colors other than white & yellow looked brown to her. This led to some memorable fashion choices!
Mom also spent money on her children & husband first, & herself last, so she was really frugal with her clothes & accessories.
Nevertheless, she tried to look pulled together. Her lipstick might clash with her blouse & her necklace might be unusual (i.e., cucko brooch/pendant watch Daddy gave her). But i think they gave her confidence.
Mom wasn't into hats, but she wore heels for church, restaurants, special occasions,etc., until her health made them too painful. Daddy was almost a foot taller than Mom, & i think she wanted to bridge that gap.
We lived next door to Mom's sister, a business woman. She helped with my style education.

I always enjoy your tips but today was extra special. I lost my mother 14 years ago and she was very influential in my life. When you spoke about the wearing lipstick my mother never left the house without her red lipstick and she always told her seven daughters how important it is to leave your home looking presentable. My mom always had her lipstick, jewelry and a nice outfit on. Even in her assisted living facility, even in the emergency room, even a week before she died. Oh Momma, I miss you and love you so much. I know you are always with me. Thank you for all gifts and knowledge received and all the love.
I loved this! My mom was also a fashion icon. She was an avid reader and enjoyed shopping too. I too had boys. Both with great skincare routines as I pushed it from teens. I know it worked as my son called me asking for best sunscreen for him as he is in the service. My oldest has a longtime girlfriend that I so enjoy. Thanks for your perspective!

It must have been the era, but my mom was exactly the same. She passed away 10 years ago this year. Mom was up at 5am every morning, did her hair, make up and was completely dressed before I got up. I never ever saw her in jeans! She insisted those were for boys! LOL. She loved hitting the sales at Macy's or whatever store suited her fancy at the moment. Mom also had her red lipstick on every day, and yes, she blotted it before she went out. It was always in her purse to reapply! This is crazy, but we loved a good chocolate Coke, only it was made with chocolate ice cream. I loved those! She always had her nails, both fingers and toes, painted and manicured.

Go HAWKS!! I lost my mom in June of 2014 at age 85. I really miss her, like you miss your mom, Beth. It's wonderful for both of us to have those memories of shopping, lunching and creating classic and modern outfits with our moms. My mom had such great style; my first fashion icon. Instead of a chocolate coke we always had a cherry coke with our lunch or as a drink after lots of back-to-school-shopping. Thanks for the memories today...........
I love this video. My mom was very fashionable too. One of my favorite outfits of hers was her brown leather trench coat, hat, and boots with her huge brown sunglasses. She made me ponchos, bell bottoms, and crop tops. She bought me navy blue sailor style hip hugger leather pants when I was in grade school. I remember a lot of her clothes and my own from elementary school.
Wonderful memories pulled at my own stylish mom memories. Growing up primarily in Iowa, my stylish mother ruled the dt IC Younkers cosmetic counter and instilled proper skin care habits at a young age. When she moved on to Casual Corner, I loved shopping and putting together an amazing wardrobe of suits for work and looks for going out with friends. Thanks for memories!
My style icon was my paternal grandmother she taught me 1 never skimp on shoes you will never meet a happy person in uncomfortable shoes 2 good posture doesn't matter what you are wearing if you are hunch over 3 take care of the basics clean hair, neat nails not necessarily polished but clean, filed and cuticles pushed back 4 take care of your teeth a beautiful smile is irreplaceable 5 quality over quantity I inherited many of her pieces and some I still use on a regular basis 30 years after her death.

Lovely video, remembering your mom style.
My Mom had great style, but for some reason, just hated spending any money on herself. She was frugal in every aspect of her life, but especially with her wardrobe, for which “guilt” would torment her. Both I and her husband (my stepfather) encouraged her to buy whatever made her happy, it wasn’t that they were that poor. When she did go buy herself some beautiful new clothes, she always returned them. I’m completely the opposite, I never feel guilty about wanting or acquiring pretty things, if I love it, I buy it! She would always say to me when we shopped “you don’t need that”, which was true in the strictly practical sense. I did have a jacket, or a dress, or a pair of trousers, but I hate having to make do with just one of each item, as I was forced to later, during many years of severe poverty. I get a lot of pleasure from my beautiful wardrobe, and styling myself is not only one of my principal my creative outlets, it’s part of the joy of being a woman, or perhaps, just a human. Even in the simplest society with minimal goods available, women, and often men, too, valued and enjoyed decorating themselves in various ways with clothes, jewelry, cosmetics, etc.
Must have that era as my mom also never left the house without her lipstick 💄
Loved this Beth❤️Our Moms! Your Mom sounded so much like mine! She loved fashion and I inherited that😂. I always laugh though, as she was definitely the Queen of returns. She would bring something home and a few days later take it back. A few months before she died in January of 1991 Mom asked me to buy her something nice to be buried in! Well of course I agreed but we both laughed as we knew that this was one outfit that was not going to be returned. She was quite the woman and I still miss her ☺️🥰.
My mother wasn’t one to enjoy fashion or skin care. She taught me the value of kindness, honesty and the love of children. We were both teachers. My dad was the clothes horse! Got my love of fashion from him. I still wear his Pendelton bomber jacket. Had to alter it. It is a colorful Native American pattern, and I feel like a million bucks when I wear it

My mom was my first style influencer! I, too, was an only daughter between two brothers and my mom was trained as a seamstress/ tailor from her vocational high school. We shopped, picked out sewing patterns and fabrics and built our wardrobes together. She made almost all my clothes --including prom gowns and my wedding dress. She died 38 years ago, and I miss her terribly to this day. Had she lived, yesterday would have been her 100th birthday. Thanks for the memories, Beth.

My mom was so stylish and she made most of my clothes and all of hers. I miss her sewing advice to this day! My mom only wore lipstick until her death 4 years ago! She was always well dressed and even with her osteoporosis she was always well dressed and looked wonderful even with that dowagers hump that defined her in her 80’s and 90’s.
