  • Tess's childhood baked bean recipe. Using butter beans and
cooking in the slow cooker. These are delicious hot or cold.
Great on the Holiday table and at picnics.
    Very easy to make. Enjoy.
Homemade Slow Cooker Baked Butter Beans
1 - 108oz can butter beans or northern beans
drained but reserve 1/2 cup liquid
    1 - 20 oz bottle of ketchup
use 1/2 cup bean liquid to rinse out bottle
    1-2 tbsp mustard
    1/2 to 3/4 cup molasses
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    salt and pepper to taste
Put everything in slow cooker and cook on low for
    4-5 hours.
This is how I remember baked beans as a child
This is how my grandmother made them and she
started out with the dried beans and soaked them
    overnight.
You can adjust to your taste with the amount of
    sweetness.
    Serve hot or cold.
These are great with any sandwich and a hit at
    the picnic table.
    Enjoy.

With the brown sugar and molasses, I think I will try using the Heinz Sugar Free ketchup to take away some of the sugar because I am trying to cut down my sugar intake. This recipe looks easy and yummy. Baked beans are one of my favorites, and trying it with the butter beans will be interesting!

Only thing different from my Mom’s recipe is the addition of brown sugar! Preparation less than 5-10 minutes! Taste DELICIOUS!! Will try brown sugar today since I just prepared it. Thanks!!

These are my FAVORITE type of beans. My Grandma used to use Lima beans though and top with strips of bacon and bake them instead of a slow cooker though.
The sweet smokey smell would permeate the whole house and I would eat them by the plate full. Didn't need anything else.
    Thank you for this recipe!

Why cook so long? Canned beans are already done. And why make the sauce? Can't one just use bbq sauce? You basically made bbq sauce with all the ingredients used. If cooking for so long just marries the sauce with the beans, just put some canned beans and bbq sauce in a pressure cooker with enough liquid for 20 minutes and your done.
