Thank you for a wonderful tribute to Wallace Hartley. The sinking of the Titanic was such a tragedy, should never be forgotten. So good that they found his body and were able to bring him back to his home town to be buried. Thanks for sharing and also paying homage to this remarkable man.
Thank you Shirley. It's impossible to even begin to think of how many people came out on the day of his funeral to pay their respects. The newspaper photos from the time are just incredible.

An excellent tribute, just as a footnote in Southampton the last port of the RMS Titanic there is a fitting memorial plaque to Wallace Hartley and the band, as well as the engineers and Stokers who worked to keep the lights working until the great ship disappeared beneath the waves. Being from the Southampton area, I was always brought up with the story of the Titanic. The Town as it was at the time provided most of the crew. There are several monuments around the City. Which I have taken my son around to see. Martin John Brooks es. I am fascinated by all your great stories, which now I am retired I have been eagerly watching. Thank you once again
Thank you for this tribute . It is very sobering and respectful. The movie Titanic showed the true horror of that day, and while you were talking I could hear the screams and panic echoing in the background. In Islam we believe that anyone who dies in accidents where they are killed by either drowning or fire or as in this case being injured before death are considered martyrs and have a special place in Heaven. R.I.P. the passengers and staff who died in the Titanic that day. Your tragedy will always be remembered and prayers will be said for you.

Interesting and informative video, but o so tragic and sad for those who lost their lives, their families. Also for the survivers who's life would never be the same. Well done to the guy who spoke so knowledgeable about Wallace Henry Hartley. R.I.P. Wallace.
Hi days of horror. I enjoyed watching the video. The body of Wallace Hartley was found on the 25th April. In the Leeds Mercury newspaper on Monday 29th April 1912 it is stated that there have been more victims remains taken on board the Mackay Bennett ship which included the body of Wallace Hartley. The notification in the article is dated Saturday which would have been the 27th April 1912, so the body was found prior to the 27th April. Also in an official registry of Hartley, a.k.a. Body 224, it stated that his body had been in the water 10 days after the disaster which would have been the 25th April 1912. So the body of Wallace Hartley was found and identified on the 25th April 1912. The chapel where the body of Wallace was taken to is no longer standing and was demolished. The original 1857 chapel until 1873 which became too small still stands across the road. They then built the 700 capacity chapel which no longer stands. The original chapel was then used as the Sunday school until the 1882 Sunday school was built which is now the current chapel and seen in the video
Fab film - Chris - lovely to have chatted last Friday ! I was walking my dog and visited Wallace’s grave - please I met you and chatted which then led me to your channel ! Thanks Gavin x
Great to meet you too Gavin! BTW, I completely messed up by thinking the memorial service was going to take place at the graveyard, when in fact it was at the stature in the town! My bad haha
Chris your technical skills are geting realy good, fantastic opening. It dosnt matter to what point they stoped playing...they played as long as they physically could. They had no way of getting off...that should be highlighted but they self sacrificially did all they could to alleviate the fears of others...true heros. Colne has such a great musical history I used to love going to the British Rytham and Blues festival held in the town. Best memory was in a Chinese afterwards and a guy ordered special fried rice....it came with spam in it...he looked at it and declared to the whole chippy...How long has Spam been Chinese ????
Thanks for your kind words 😃 From reading many articles on the story written in the papers at the time, I believe the witnesses heard the band play that hymn. But just like today, there are cynics who will always find something 'flawed' no matter what. I couldn't believe how many letters were sent to the newspapers from people not believing the witness accounts.
Colne has a tremendous amount of history. I was surprised how much when I was looking into the Wallace Hartley story. And I only live 15 minutes away 🤣 Thanks for watching 😁
another brilliantly put together video mate. I really do look forward to your next ones. 😎👌. I'm gonna have to start sharing your videos to get you some more subs as you should have thousands by now with the work you put into it
Wallace was clearly a devout Christian, and believing in walk in the light and not in the darkness is how he was never a coward, something not seen today thanks for two world wars which totally damaged the Christian element of the UK and western Europe. Having 40000 people at a funeral, wow! Simply amazing.
Terrific film. I've just come across your channel and have subscribed. I can't believe how much content you've accumulated. I am certainly going to enjoy catching up with your videos. I did a video about Wallace's home of 1912 in Dewsbury. Have a look at my channel if you get chance its all about history, walks & travel.
Many thanks!! And I'll certainly pop on over to your channel 👍 I'm hoping we are getting better at talking about the stories we cover. It's still a little awkward talking in front of a camera 🤣
@@DaysofHorror You don't come across awkward at all. Whilst I have put quite a few films on YT I've only recently tried vlogging and I don't find it easy at all so only the latest film is a vlog. I was given some advice about talking to camera especially in public and that was a doctor doesn't become a doctor overnight they go to medical school. So I am going to hold on to that thought in future and hope practice makes me better. Good luck in all you do.
There is no doubt that they played to calm everyone and played the ‘nearer my god to thee’ hymn, but it’s a ghastly horrible lie to say that they played as the titanic was sinking. This is proven fact not only by the inquiry, but also by at least two known survivor’s who could recall the incident and their stories. Eva Hart and Edith Russell. Their stories are on TH-cam if anyone’s interested, I’m more familiar with Eva Hart’s story as she’s from the area in which I live too. She also has a Pub named after her.
Thank you for that it was interesting and I must say it was nice to see him being remembered.
Thanks James 👍

Some say on foggy nights on the Atlantic, you can still hear a violin playing Nearer My God to Thee
Something tells me I've also heard of that 🤔 I'm sure I read this in one of those older 'haunted' books.
