I have made my own pillars and glassed them into the stock while precompressed. I have done 3 Rem700s that way. Larry Potterfield accomplishes the same thing with a lot less lathe and mill time. Hat's off to Larry for making some of the best gunsmithing on youtube.
I'm always inspired by all the things I feel like I could do myself with Larry's guidance, while at the same time intimidated by how incredibly well he does everything.
That is the easiest and the best way I have ever seen a pillar bedding job done. People, if you want to bed your rifle. Get this kit from Midway and follow the instruction exactly. You cant go wrong. Wish they had this kit back in the day. Great Great video for beginners and experienced people too.
I really enjoyed this (and all) your videos. I found it very instructional. Could you provide a list of tools and fixtures needed to accomplish the job. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Larry Potterfield, I have had several Gunsmiths tell me the you either pillar bed a rifle or you glass/metal bed a rifle but you shouldn't do both. What are your thoughts?
currently im devcon bedding a remington police 700, and the bolts we were given were wayy too loose in the stock we chose. so to fix that, we pillar bedded the bolts, and are devcon bedding. i’m not sure about glass bedding, but i would say, if the situation arises while you’re bedding a rifle where you have to pillar bed. i think that’s okay
I believe there is merit to only bed the action at two points. Full length bedding of the action can lead to torsional stress if the stock warps later on, while 2 point bedding will not. Some might argue that if the stock is full length bedded that it will not warp, but that just isn’t true.
+Nicholas Skific It's best to do it in two steps. Pillar bed first, then do the glass bedding. The pillars provide correct spacing, strength and structure for the glass bedding to set up the way you want it.
i understand that bedding improves accuracy and works well in wooden stocks since wood "breathes". what if its a synthetic or plastic stock. is glass bedding necessary, will it improve accuracy like in a wood stock?
I bought this product. The material between the stock and trigger assembly at the rear insert becomes so thin after drilling, it easily cracks. The rear insert diameter is too big, in my opinion. After removing everything and repairing the stock, I used the original rear screw with washers for shims and metal tubing for a sleeve. No problems.
some rifles are well made and don't need that crap dude, if you can shoot 3 shots at 100 yards and cover with a dime with a model 70 .243 you don't need glass bedding
The best way to do this 1. Go to professional 2. First do the original stock for practice then the new one. Way to much potential for messing up stock.
Yeah you guys really need to actually meant make mention of companies that actually manufacture pillars doesn't do any good to show people how to install them if you're not going to show them with a company's name cuz nobody can find them
I always tried to like midway USA, but every time I try to order ANYTHING it's "out of stock, backorder,OK".... and the music on this vid sucks, put that shit on backorder,OK!!!! Lol
i have called and they say leave a message and they will call back i left a message and nobody has called back i guess they just dont give a damn but thats ok i called another company and left a message and they called me back so i ordered from them i guess midway has so much business that they dont need mine.
These pillars are massive WAY to THICK!!!. Aluminum thick pillars that reduce the strength of the stock. FACT Boyds uses these type of Pillars and the rear part of the stock cannot be pillar bedded at the rear tange areas to much stock is removed safety issue! My Savage arms uses thinner steel pillars. from the factory on there stocks. I see people doing a lot of pillar jobs and alignment and depth between the front and rear pillars is critical. When alignment/heights are wrong you have just created a twist in the action between the lower reciever/magazine and accuracy will not improve it will worsen.
This is all way too much trouble, especially for an amateur. The damned gun, in my case a Ruger M77 in .270 Win., should have grouped correctly out of the box like my Remingtons did. I see much potential for screwing the stock up and with questionable results.
This guy is the Mr. Rogers of the firearms world
Larry potterfield is the Santa Claus of shooting supply gunsmithing tools and anything else shooting
yup .... and the power flute jungle music in the background adds to the ambiance

Larry is always making things look so easy.
I have no need to pillar bed my rifle stock but I love watching you work.

Very awesome pillars 👌
Would be really cool if you all put links to the products shown in the videos
I love these gunsmithing videos!
The Mr. Rogers of the firearms world! :)
I came here just for the music.
I'm ready to go on that hunting safari

whats with the Hakuna matta music? driving me nuts
I would give anything to work with Larry
Free float (whipping) vs glass bedding (heat swelling) vs barrel bands? Has anyone done a recent comparison?
Would glass bedding the stock in conjunction with these bedding pillars be a good idea, or would it be overkill?
+Nicholas Skific Good idea if you have the funds

+imp alor Yes, I had a Sendero for awhile and people were recommending glass-bedding for it even though it had the aluminum block built-in...
Excellent video, but I have to agree. The music is too repetitive and should be a little quieter.
I’m getting African vibes
Hey great videos . I have a ab3 and looked on your website didnt see exactly what I needed would the pillars matter as long as their adjustable?
Why do I find only remington specific kits and and a kit with out epoxy but with the handscrews?
Does Midway USA do pillar bedding of wood stocked Rifles ?
Does MidwayUSA sell the Pillars used in this Video ??? Does anyone know ? Please let me know . Thank you so much .
Do they carry kit shown here to complete this job ???

Good job !!
good video, thank you. bad music though.
Was this filmed in Japan? What's with the music?
Another great video, though. Thanks.
its a safari/african music since he's building a "Nearly Perfect Safari Rifle"
I own a Winchester model 70 why is there very very few if no videos on lug lapping pillar bedding and glass bedding that particular rifle.
some rifles are well made and don't need that crap dude, if you can shoot 3 shots at 100 yards and cover with a dime with a model 70 .243 you don't need glass bedding
Larry is this music really necessary ?
Is there a Chinese brothel upstairs?
Sounds nothing like Chinese music
Amazing ! But we need subtitles.
Wouldn't the integrity of the stock be compromised @1:56
Don't listen to these people, the music was absolutely banging!
Very good video except the music was too loud and it got distracting.
is there a school for gunsmith?
I want to have this done to my Deer Rifle .
Does Midway USA do this ?
No. They sell the tools so you can do it yourself. Or you can hire a gunsmith.
Good luck.
The music remind me Africa lion hunting.
Can I ship my rifle to Larry and let him do this so I don't screw it up?
Anyone else start dancing to the music?
For some reason the music makes me hungry for Chinese food...
Chinese food from Africa?
@@johnnypea5369 lmfao I was about to say - It's not that I'm not hungry for Chinese Food, but isn't this like some African Music??
Love the videos. Hate the loud repettative music
Good music
Music reminds me of the bird tiki hut at Disney
Why the music?
Hakuna Matata.
After watching this now I know I'd rather pay someone to pillar and bed. BTW, I like the music.
It'd be nice to hear the guy over the Lion King music.
ill bet he puckered a little bit @1:37 lol
I just noticed that, and when the drill bit locked up
I love Midway’s products and service, but the background music on these videos is incredibly irritating. I see many others feel the same.
The best way to do this 1. Go to professional 2. First do the original stock for practice then the new one. Way to much potential for messing up stock.
Great video.. !!!the music has to go though🤣🤦🏻
this music thooo lmao
Whats woth the kabuki music? Lol
I hate when that happens 1:44
1:47 doh! 🤦🏻♂️
Music reminds me of Africa.
I get more asianic feel to it than Africa
The music is distracting.
Good dog call.
What the hell, this is by far the most out of place music I have ever heard
Im sure you can build it too guys. Just look for WoodPrix page
AGI
Love the videos but the music is not needed.
Great Video, but supremely annoying background music.
Please do not put music in the next movies
Yeah you guys really need to actually meant make mention of companies that actually manufacture pillars doesn't do any good to show people how to install them if you're not going to show them with a company's name cuz nobody can find them

These videos would be much better without the music.
Couldn't finish watching because the music was do annoying.
This music haunts my nightmares.
Sounds like he was on an African Safari.
Bigbobg well it is a safari rifle 😂
Chill pills all around.
Awesome video. But we want to focus on you, not the annoying music. It doesnt help.
Great informative video but please loose the music. Distracting, particularly annoying track and totally unnecessary.
The music made me stop watching.....
Awful music. Hard to get past it and learn.
wthell....was this produced in Japan?...loose the music

Had to quit watching due to the stupid music
Good Job !!
