    My beginner tips would be: Don't let the brakes be your crutch, find a moderate trail and learn to ride it without touching the levers. Learn to track stand, not just for a minute or two, until you get completely bored with the challenge. Finally, keep your weight centered over the BB and stay loose, you really can let the bike go where ever it wants to go but never let the bike dictate where your body goes.

    If you load the rear wheel while decending you unload the front wheel giving you no grip. I was told that on a coaching day at dyfi by the athertons. When coaching they said always load the front when decending for grip

      Interesting! I find that I use the rear grip way more for a few reasons and a main one being on a steep slope if you lose the front you will slide out of control fast and also if your weight is back you can steer the bike way easier then if your forward. Not doubting the athertons methods too tho!

      Yes. Don’t get back down hill, get low

    • @TubbyMTB
      @TubbyMTB 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, but you need your arse over your rear axle and your torso weight over your crown/ forks, so kind of a low attack position with your arse sticking out!

      I think it comes down to each riders interpretation of what feels like leaning forwards or backwards, when descending you need to stay centred over the BB which feels like leaning back relative to the bike, but relative to gravity you're just staying in the middle. To me staying in the middle feels like leaning forwards, but I'm still leaning back compared to the bike, just not right out over the back wheel

      yeah I've been told to not get back, but low when descending. if you're back, your arms are stretched and makes if difficult to angle the bike when you need to steer. but if you don't have a dropper post its hard to get low so it makes sense that Nino or Tomac might have said those things

    Thanks for that Tom and Kara.
    Next time I'm going too fast on a downhill section, I'll cut that main loose and yank hard on that reserve chute!
    Brilliant!

    Okay, STEP 2,… the back flip! Ohh,.. okay we’re taking a slightly slower learning curve than I expected. Great video though, loved it. My favourite though has got to be step 5. Great example from Kara. She looked like one of the estate agents on Homes under the hammer when she was checking out the trail. 🤣🤣

    One thing people often comment on my bike is the position of the brake levers, and they are similar to Toms, the lever is pushed into the bar so the one finger is at the end of the lever and not in the middle. See so many bikes set up with lever rammed up against the grip and the end lines up with their pinky finger

      @mikereynoldsguitar502 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      good point i always set up my levers so that my forefinger just rests on the end of the brake lever and i position it so its always just right on that point
