I worked at an Improv comedy club for several years about 10 or 12 years ago. Of all the comedians that performed there that I had no knowledge of before they showed up, Sebastian Maniscalco was hands down my favorite. This was around the time when he was doing his Whats Wrong With People material. Which I think was his best show. I remember the first 2 nights he was there performing, I had the hardest time doing my duties, because I kept pausing to watch Sebastian just straight up killing it. I worked Friday and Saturday, and had Sunday off, at which time I got as many friends and family as I could to go see him for his Sunday show. And a few years later, after I had left the Improv, Sebastian came there again, and I once again got as many friends and family that I could to go see him again. Man he was good. I got to talk to him some when I was working at the Improv. A really nice personable guy to talk to.
Neal is grossly underrated. But is truly a genuine soul. Love how considerate and thoughtful everything he says is. “Oh by the way” “meaning…” are my fav Brennanisms
@MuZic It's not gross. It's accurate. Neal has openly talked about this on a few podcasts. We all love Neal and that's why we are here listening to him. He has a very honest approach to things, which is reflective of him as a person and a comedian. No back handed compliments here. Given his amount of pure talent and how he weaves cultural insight (with humor) into very serious topics...one would assume it to be a fair critique that the he's underrated.
I’ve been performing to some degree my entire life and I cannot possibly relate to Sebastian more when he says he just wants to show up, do his thing, and go home. So nice to hear such a successful performer express the same desire. Makes me feel less insane. Thanks for this podcast, Neal. It’s excellent.
I love that two of the most notoriously antisocial comedians have such a smooth, easy way of getting along with one another. They clearly see eye to eye with one another, & have obvious mutual respect... it's nice to see. 😊
I don't know how to express this right, but I love Neal* because he's one of the most considerate comics, like he considers every aspect of a thing/project/premise. Even the transition into the ads, actually discussing therapy and then going into a BetterHelp ad, and tying it in and making it funny!
Yeah he’s really good and I think Dave leaving his show abrubtly really hurt him financially and he probably struggled a lot with that. I know I’d feel a lot of different things. I was worried with how depressed he would say he is all the time but he seems to try a lot of different things.
So refreshing to see the old/real Sebastian that we know and love. Stay humble because that’s what we love about you. Sometimes you over shadow Pete on “THE CAST”… Take your mother’s advice. Stay humble…
@@peppino1961agreed. I like his comedy and his show but i can’t watch his podcast. All buzzed and sounding kinda smarmy. Sebastian in that atmosphere must hv been so uncomfy. I may hv to check that out for 5 mins of cringy fun.
@@LLynneM His first special was amazing. Then it kind of got a little stale. I find he exaggerated his accent and relies too much on his crazy moves which shows he lacks the intellect of Louis CK or Chappelle.
The Pete and Sebastian Show podcast is one of the BEST FREE weekly podcasts out there, it's two seasoned very funny comics talking about their lives and it's so funny. Immigrant mentality, baby!
I have many favorite comedians, and it’s hard to even say which episode of Blocks are the top 3. Regardless, this episode is awesome! The episode with Trevor Noah was awesome, and quite literally. everyone I’ve watched has been as well. Now, Neil or is it Neal (lols at myself here), when will you get Drew Michaels on? Matt Rife? Or LeAnne Morgan? And I will laugh more at myself if you have had them on! 😂❤. Thank you, humor heals. My late dad taught Shakespeare and comedy makes tragedy bearable so keep helping us all heal and laugh. Much love! ❤
Neal your a great host/comedian!!! I have completely enjoyed your work! Greatest, introspective, down to earth thing I have seen! Gonna watch and tell people to. THANK YOU.
Just learned of Brennan! i always watch Sebatian, and so love this podcast! i get why Sebastian is worried about maintaining his Comedy level and success because I worry about that for him too, you need to explore other venues like he is doing, acting! cant wait to see his movie about his Father, he is such a genuine person, shares his life and how he CARES!!
28:00 for a comedian I'm a fan of, I'll see them every time they are near. Sometimes multiple times per tour if the shows are close enough. We don't have comedy clubs in North Central WV so catching a tour is a huge treat and I'll take all I can get!
Love how humble, honest and real Sebastian is!❤…not to mention the funniest comedian on the plant.😅Never change!!! I relate to Sebastian way too much!..Lots of the same traits as him and grew up with a similar background and from his same hometown in Midwest burbs! I have the same values & beliefs that I live by…Guess it’s the European upbringing…Italians & Greeks can be very much alike. Love his deep voice and Italian accent…Could listen to it all day!😊
It reminded me of a story from Bill Burr when he and Sebastian were living on the same floor and just a few doors from each other. And after they met in the hallway on a few occasions, Sebastian asks Bill; "I've heard that you're making a good chunk of change. What is exactly that you do? I'd like to try it myself sometime" 🤣
I felt like Neal spent most of this entire interview taking digs at Sebastian and I held back from writing it bc it felt negative on my part. Then toward the end when Sebastian brought it up himself I realized I was right
I think an important part of knowing someone for a while is that they give you perspective and keep you humble. They remind you of things you forgot about and in the end help you see how far you’ve come. Sometimes it’s awkward to be reminded of low points but ultimately it keeps you honest
Poor guy was also on Bill Maher's terrible podcast, where Bill gets drunk and stoned and talks at guests for an hour. Sebastian was so uncomfortable. But when he is talking to a sober adult, he's very interesting and open.
I just had spine surgery! It was my last resort but glad I did it. The sooner you do it the better, the longer you wait the worse it can get if you do need it. Get a few neurosurgeon’s opinions. Hope you’re feeling better considering I’m seeing this 9+ months later.
Sebastian is very tight and reveals information but as a general thing, he doesn’t completely let go.. which is fine to keep your business to yourself or tell ppl close to you.. but I always feels he holds back
In addition to meditation, also consider a great way to practice being present is by continually noticing and thinking about every step of what you’re actually doing, saying in the moment.
Sebastian - "I'm taking about a year / year and a half off. I'm just gonna do Veags for a bit. Oh and I also start shooting a TV show in February." LOL doesn't sound like time off to me. Love all your stuff, me and my wife saw you in Chicago last year and couldn't stop laughing!

I think you’re both really funny. I grew up a lot like Maniscalco. Same region. Same generation. I guess I’m wondering, do you ever consider that people may not come out bc of economic hardship, not bc they forget you, or don’t think you’re as funny as you used to be? I’ll be honest. I grew up working class. Put myself through school. Worked really hard. I couldn’t afford to go see a live show right now. I don’t know any of my friends who go to shows often. Usually somebody I know chooses one, maybe two shows to go to a year.. that could be a high caliber comedian like either of you, a concert, broadway show (I live in eastern upstate NY now). Guys, when the cost of living has tripled, it’s not easy paying for these shows. Having said that, I do watch all your specials via streaming subscriptions.. it’s much more economically affordable for me. If you have interesting podcasts, I’ll watch & subscribe, leave comments for the algorithm gods, try to support you that way. I grew up not having much. Rough steel mill town. I became a research scientist in the field of genetics. Got suddenly I’ll w/ some autoimmune crap, & kinda lost everything. I figure I’m not that unique. Things happen to folks all the time. Just wanted to offer that up.. podcasts are obviously also a way to build an extremely solid & ever growing fan base. Doesn’t have to be just about promoting tickets. I’m not judging. It’s just my perspective based on my own experiences. Very interesting episode. Ty.
