    Today’s lesson will focus on the Shwa sound in English. This is the unstressed “uh” vowel sound in English. So, as the name suggests, it only occurs in unstressed syllables. This is the vowel sound in the unstressed syllables of words such as above, enough, unless, etc. This is
    The Shwa sound is made by all the vowel sounds. So, a, e, i o and u can all be produced as the shwa sound when they occur in unstressed syllables.
    This is such a neutral sound, that it is hard to imagine that any language would not use it. But surprisingly, there are many: Spanish, Italian, Finnish, and Polish, among others. So, while it may be an easy sound to make, it may not come naturally to many non-native English speakers.
