Did any of the paintballer's shots actually hit... anything?

+Skwrl Productions Yes, there were three hits. We are currently modifying invert mini paintball markers to fire via a bite switch so that we are able to fly with both hands and fire simultaneously. We spent many hours briefing the jump to ensure safety for all involved. The next iteration should be be more like a paintball tournament.

+Skydiver Garage Hey there! Awesome video! I was wondering, the blue white striped canopy has 2 small vertical fins on top of the wing. I have only seen these on paragliders. What canopy is this? I presume that the fins were custom added? Any better flight characteristics noticable? Thanks in advance ;)

+driess1000 The canopy is a Nitron 190, Nitro canopies have them too and they are OEM! To date it is my favorite canopy I have ever owned (I now jump a Velo 120 but still jump the Nitron). Light toggle pressure, quick to turn, fast recovery arc. I added 6" of lower brake lines to keep the tail of the canopy from dragging when I do front riser dives (it has a very short recovery arc). Even at a 1:1 it is an aggressive canopy because it is elliptical. I started jumping it at 50ish jumps (much to the dismay of my S&TA) and spent over 500 jumps before my initial downsize.

Obvious question...what about the "misses" ??? I can see someone getting sued for being hit from a dropping paint ball from 10,000 feet!! Why do think people are arrested for shooting into the air? what goes up, comes down. Also I noticed not one person had their paintball guns tethered. You can't even work with tools more than 20 feet in the air without them being required to be tethered to the worker!! Looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen!!

+Rich Strelak Obvious question, yes, GREAT Question YES!!! There was approximately 9 hours of planning, and briefing before this one jump was made. the shooting area was not our normal jump zone, it was over an area to maximize safety. The reason that the paintball markers were not tethered is that in event of a main canopy malfunction, the line (tethered to the marker) can easily envelop the reserve parachute as you cutaway your main canopy and go into free fall. There were many other considerations that were taken, most of which are pretty boring and mundane.
As far as lawsuits, watch daytime TV commercials... People sue for getting their feelings hurt today, instead of when it is actually warranted. Lawsuits have unfortunately become part of our society.

Not sure a paintball would have a heavy terminal velocity. It moves fast when shot, but it's so light I'm not sure it would fall fast enough to do any real damage (it slows down due to air resistance). Maybe I'm wrong, but keep in mind things don't accelerate indefinitely.
