  • ⚠️ The roads are always guarded, we never drive in an open traffic! Drive safe everyone and train on racetracks first!
    --
    We love the Alpine A110 for its timeless sexy design, light weight, smart details and thoughtful technical solutions. It's not nor it is not meant to be a sharp sports car for driving at the limit. It feels best on winding mountain roads with smooth asphalt, where it can handle elegant powerslides despite the absence of a mechanical LSD. But you have to have the right engine speed and overcome the turbo lag. The transition to oversteer is typically quick, as with all cars with a rear-mid engine, but easy to feel and expect.
    If you drive on a smooth road, you can enjoy very fast and precise steering with great work of the chassis. The chassis set up in the GT version is the same as the basic A110. However both the engine and transmission have software from the more powerful A110 S. This creates a really good combo!

    if you will leave it in the same sport mode but allow it to shift yourself you will found it will shift better than you, also this vid show pretty clear how grippy the chassis is especially compared to other cars you recorded like Yrais GR or GR86 thats slide much more than this one, you should find for a test a new Emira from Lotus! ;)

      also if you will it in auto in sport mode the boost transitions will be way smoother plus this car has a proper low rpm torque so most of the time the transmission feels as monolite power outcome without interruptions ;)

      @@chuckfdanger it does change the car balance, since you have less grip you don't load the tyres as much, in result you don't utilise the front camber nearly as much resulting in smaller contact patch, resulting in even less grip. That's only one of the examples.

    I suspect a true LSD would help it rotate a touch more smoothly and consistently but what a car 🫱🏾‍🫲🏽

    • @arekb5951
      @arekb5951 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      LSD in a relatively low power mid engine lightweight RWD car can have the exact opposite effect of what you get in a heavier high power front engine RWD car - it can make the car more understeery. Lotus didn't fit LSD's in most Elises because of that - open diff made the car more nimble and easy to handle.

    • @ShogunsDojo
      @ShogunsDojo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@arekb5951 if you used a helical style diff you can bypass the downsides and get pretty much all the benefits. I have a quaife LSD in my M240i and it really helped during that transient phase when the car is on the limit of grip as both wheels spin up togetherness but on corner entry it’s effectively an open diff. It’s not perfect but for the road it’s a pretty solid option.

    • @arekb5951
      @arekb5951 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ShogunsDojo M240i is quite a different car. For starters you don't have the weight of the engine and the gearbox weighing the rear axle down. If you have too much traction on the rear axle in a light mid engine car you can overwhelm the front axle and just push it straight on power, so the car might go full understeer when you (partially) apply the throttle because you have weight distribution and weight transfer while accelerating working against the front axle grip. If you have enough power you can overcome the rear axle grip and then the car suddenly snaps into oversteer, which in a mid engine car is quite dangerous. There's no purely mechanical diff that wouldn't hurt handling in such car in any way. There will always be some tradeoffs. Ferrari uses an E-diff since 2004 F430 and it's most likely the most versatile solution to the problem.
      I've switched my track toy from an E36 to a K24 MR-2 and a lot of the things I learned that worked in an E36 were slowing me down or were just borderline dangerous in the MR-2. Open diff gives me the fastest lap times right now.

    • @ShogunsDojo
      @ShogunsDojo ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@arekb5951 touché, everything you’ve mentioned does make a lot of sense. I guess my experience with the 240 has led me to hyper focus on the rear axle and the layout of the A110 is just completely different. I fully take your point about how it can make handling problematic by shifting the balance of grip too far towards the rear axle. I hadn’t considered balance. Good talk 🫱🏾‍🫲🏽
