This is a very solid introduction to this topic. Rarely found. Finding medical support in this area is very difficult. Thank you for covering this information.

Dr. Pierce, is it true that N-acetylcysteine should be used sparingly because it can chelate essential metals like copper and zinc? I heard that from an osteopath.

Dennis your questions continue to impress me. While many compounds have the potential to chelate, this particular product NAC is used at fairly high doses over 3000 mg daily by William Walsh to quench oxidative stress in especially bipolar. We also measure plasma zinc, serum copper, ceruloplasmin and Zn/Cu ratio and supplement accordingly to ensure we are balancing these minerals, which do affect mental disorders. The chelating potential is not a problem if we are measuring minerals and NAC is used all the time by WalshInstitute trained clinicians. The antioxidant effect is supremely important to astrcytes in my opinion.

Any chelate can potentially deplete other minerals. This is why we always use a trace mineral supplement for all our chelation clients

Naturopathic doctors are qualified to perform the tests as welly determine and carry out chelation, correct? Love your presentation.
