- Classic Michigan Replay with Bo Schembechler. The most exciting play in the first 100 years of Michigan Football history. Lee Corso is the IU coach that catches the clock stopping lateral (now an illegal play). Bob Ufer with the classic call. Go Blue
I still get choked up when I look at this video. Ufer's heart is bursting with pure joy.
Then I realize that He and Bo are now in "Football Valhalla" with Benny, Fielding & Fritz.
Go Blue.
I was at that game. What was really amazing was that a large part of the crowd had left early to try to beat the rush out of the parking lot.
the side by side of Bo is priceless.
i could watch this over and over.
Mike, are you related to Chris Woodruff of A2 who grew up on Shadford?
The Catch by Desmond was also a great play
God bless ya, Bo!
Go BLUE!!
lol 70's hair
Okay, great moment for you Michigan fans. But being from Indiana, this one play sums up Indiana football. Totally inept players and coaches. Corso you idiot, go for two after you made it 21-20. Instead, Mr. College Football Gameday kicks the point and PLAYS FOR THE TIE! HELLO! As Herman Edwards would say, you play to win! Carter scored thanks to some of the worst tackling you will ever see. This is why Indiana is a basketball school. GRRRR!!!!
My favorite Meeeeechigan football play and win of all time! John Wangler threw a really nice pass to AC and he did the rest. What speed and balance Carter had!!! Mr. Ufer could call a game like no one else could! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂👍👍👍👍👍
That play was literally announce with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
Someone asked me when I became such a big Michigan fan.
Oct 27, 1979: I'd already lived in Ann Arbor 5 years - and of course followed the Wolverines. On that day - I was in my townhouse a good two miles away when Carter made that touchdown. You could hear that tremendous roar of the crowd from that far away. That was the day I realized what the Michigan Wolverines were: legendary!
It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!
"Ufer is going out of his mind!" I wish he was still around. I grew up listening to him on tape since he passed before I was born.
It brings tears to my eyes! I was there! What an unforgettable memory!
Ufer is so cool to listen to, at least if you're a Michigan fan.
My dad was a sportswriter in the press box for this game. He said that when this play happened, all but himself and two other writers had left to go down to the locker room (those writers thought the game was over).
My dad and the other two writers had to go down and describe the play to all the other writers who missed it.
that’s incredible! who was your dad and who did he write for?
I have my own story of starting to leave early in utter disgust! i’ll post that after reading the rest of the comments
Maybe Woodie, Bo, Ufer and Fielding Yost ARE up in football Valhalla...
If anyone IS, those guys are already have seats on the 50.
Go, Bo!
Go, BLUE!!
I'm Illinos trublue but this to me,is the greatest most passionate, call of all time any sport! RedKerrs joy & Harry Caray' s pain both displayed a similar obvious love at times..but this1 is king.lol
Those strange lightsaber sounding grunts of joy probably should have been studied by some paranormal group later..lol.. but that's my fav!😂!
Don't recall ever hearing of Bob Ufer, but to hear him go totally crazy is refreshing!! In this age of sterile announcers, its nothing like hearing a "homer" who loves his team. Hearing him in tears helps me to remember why I absolutely love college football!!!
This happened when I was 7 years old. I saw it on the Detroit evening news and have been a Michigan football fan ever since.
Ummm, no Devon, that's General George Patton's horn, Go Blue, Forever.
Ok.... you are a BAD Meeechigan fan.. Bob Ufer was a one of a kind who left us way to early. I don't care how old you are, if you don't like Bob Ufer, you are no Michigan fan!
I was 14 years old and working in the yard with my parents and I heard Ufer make this call on the radio, and it still brings me goose bumps hearing it again.
I was sitting in the student section (which was then in the end zone) and will never forget this moment. Thanks for posting.
R, i stopped going to games back in aught 6, but from the 60’s until then it started dead in the end zone, certainly sec.32, maybe 33 or 34 also, don’t remember, and wrapped around the corner toward the press box down to sec. 27
probably still the same
My husband and I used to listen to all the Michigan games called by him. Every Saturday. He called Bo "General Patton" because of Schembechlers love of the ground game. Him and his cotton picking horn. Harbaugh was waiting in the wings as he was there 82-83 as Quarterback. Win, lose or draw Ufer was every man, woman and child that even THOUGHT about M8chigan as the team to watch.
No one at UM talks about the play before the TD, but they made the intentional-fumble-out-of-bounds play illegal the next year as a result of that play. Funny thing is the ball went straight to Corso. Great clutch play, I have to admit, but it does sum up IU football.
When we left the stadium that day after the game, someone was playing Ufer's broadcast outside the stadium many minutes later and Bob was still coming apart at the seams. The stadium erupted into a roar that I had never experienced before. AC was the man, but that team at that moment was the absolute best. What a day!
I gave up my seat and missed the game. Listened to that broadcast on my alarm clock, was not televised!
I got to go to the Ohio St game after…. Schlichter game.
I was at that game (my Junior year) and that was still the most memorable moment in sports for me. AC is still my favorite Wolverine followed closely by Woodson. GO BLUE
Thank you for posting & youtube for existing. Sheer emotion. I'll never forget hearing him call that over the radio...
I was there as a 21 yr old kid!! What a game!! Will never forget it..
This play indirectly lead to Corso showing up on your TV every Saturday wearing some dumb ass mascot head. When Ufer went into the 3rd person you knew something big was happening. Ufer, Bo and Yost are sitting around Valhalla watching it now and grinning ear to ear.
No wonder Lee Corso is so biased against Michigan. He's still mad about AC fumbling that ball out of bounds accidentally-on-purpose.
God I wish Bob Ufer was still here.
AC caught the pass, L.P. Lawrence Reid the rb/fb lateraled the ball to a less than jubilant corso!!!
Ufer was great, I remember when U of M was playing Ohio State and as the buckeyes were coming onto the field Ufer said " Here comes Darth Vader Earle Bruce and his scarlett and gray stormtroopers"!!!
Anthony Carter on the skinny post. Great coaching by Corso. Instead of going for the win when they made it 21-20, he kicked the point FOR A TIE!! No wonder he;s on TV putting on mascot heads. As a coach, LEE CORSO WAS A LOSER!!
Jim, what you have to understand is that in the days of “the big 2 & little 8” the idea of Michigan losing to indiana was unthinkable! when fucking rich rod lost to indiana it was the first time in 37 years!
for indiana a tie WAS a win!!! just like the great documentary harvard beats yale 22-22
I was at my first Michigan game as a high school student back then. I ended up going to Michigan State but this is one football game will always stand out.....Bob Ufer, what a great call....
User was the greatest football announcer ever
My first Michigan game. 13 yo me was wearing my GI Red Devils hat. Got heckled by some guy thought I was a IU fan. 😅
Was sitting in the parking lot of Bay Side Ice Area in Saginaw/Bay City listening to UFer's call as I was late for a hockey game that we were playing that day. Coach was really mad at me.
I was at that game. Heading up the stairs to leave while watching the last play that was opposite the student section. Ended up running on the field. What a great feeling.
0:36 What a heads-up play to lateral the ball out of bounds to stop the clock (technically a fumble, I suppose?) Too bad this play was apparently banned.

Little trivia
The Indy coach who caught that ball.........?
Lee Corso
Love Corso!
I could watch this 1000 times over and more.
Do the Michigan announcers have a seal in the booth with them? Lol.
Listened to that game on radio (was in high school).
2023 I still get choked up 😮
2:55 who cares, who gives a damn
Look at 0:37 - the ball carrier deliberately throws a backward pass (lateral) out of bounds. It feels like a logical thing to do, but is/was it legal?
truly a great moment in univ of mich football with the nonpareil anthony carter and the underrated john wagner, fy, lsa, '70
Didn't matter if Corso went for 1 or 2. The only difference it would have made was a 5 pt. or a 6pt. victory.
Geez of peats, look at brandstatter, full head of hair
Maybe this was the pinnacle for Michigan football..no more Ufer, no more Bo...AC is around..Dont knowif we are on the right path now..sorry for the downer. GO Blue!
dear dee donner ramone, we were NOT on the right path of course, but we finally are now! go blue!
and i used to hang out with the real dee dee when he was hanging out in A2 in the 90’s at the late great amy henderson’s house.
he tried to steal amy’s beautiful bass player debbie and debbie’s best friend beth, the beautiful bass player for another band (monster bait & zug island quartet) and take them with him on tour in europe, but they stayed with thier bands and bf’s instead!
he was actually going to join monster bait or at least for one night at 2nd chance, not sure if it actually happened, i have to ask debbie!
love this ending, makes you want to be there.
this is CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bo is in football and life's Valhalla
Bob Ufer is my hero
OH MY GOD CARTER SCORED!!!!!!!
Check BO @ 1:45 GREAT
Go Blue!!!!!!!!!!!
Bob Ufer:What a guy!
and that crazy horn....
I was there!
That horn.
Chills!!
I love it
God Bless Bob Ufer!
Lol.. i thought the horn was the announcer.smh.
Great call!!
Marlon, that was ufer’s “bo general george patton schembechler victory horn” allegedly the horn from patton’s jeep during wwII! he would squeeze the horn after big td’s!!!
also ufer was a record setting sprinter for Michigan and there’s a documentary about him that’s supposed to be great that i haven’t seen
his son tom used to work at my neighborhood store & i used to play softball against him
forgot to add the mid initial S in patton’s name and the fact that calling bo “bo general george s patton schembechler” was one of ufer’s regular things!
@@tomdickandharry7024 Thanks I never knew..
Best call all time though!
