    100% agree with you Kale! It is the best place for surfing progression, i have caught more waves in 1 year then in 10 years. Trying to to goto the beach from Melbourne when you get time, getting the right conditions then having the confidence to mix it with people that are good surfers becomes a self perpetuating way to go backwards in surfing, URBNSURF is exactly the opposite and has helped my surfing and enjoyment of it so much and gives me confidence to go into the ocean. Love your videos!

    This is so rad to see people put development into making waves. Yet still the beauty of the natural wave is something to behold.

    Loved the video!
    I've surfed The Wave in Bristol (UK) multiple times now and you are *so* right about the opportunity for surfers to progress.
    They have a setting they call the Waikiki wave that's designed to "bounce" off the wall, then, instead of running straight to the beach, goes diagonally across towards the bottom of the pier section. This gives a lovely, rolling, easy to catch unbroken wave which is perfect for getting used to popping up and starting to put turns together.
    I was there a few days ago and it was the best surfing session I've ever had, because, whilst going to Croyde in North Devon is lovely, you never know what the next wave is going to be like, but in the pool, you can be certain that it will be just like the last one, so you don't have to worry about where the peak will be or if it will close out on you.
    That leaves you free to concentrate on getting up and looking through the turns and I could really feel how my surfing had progressed!
    PS I've also learned lots of great stuff from your videos too, keep up the great work :-)

    Weird people who give such informative and fun videos such as this a thumbs down. First time I've seen a Kale Brock vid and I really enjoyed it. Just wish I was young enough and fit enough to go and enjoy a world class attraction, (bout bloody time), in my home town.

      100%. I have 30 years surfing experience and have watched a lot of videos and there is nothing out there as good as this for beginners, or even, imo, as enjoyable as this for any surfer. Kale's love of waves and people comes through very well.

      You could go talk to your local shaper.
      Rounded square is for all round surfing
      Round tail is for island waves
      Rounded pin is for big waves
      Square tails like to pop out of the water on a top turn
      Swallow/fish tail holds the board onto the wave
      Everything else is just experimental.

    As an old snowboarder who was able to ride just about anything I say Surfing is much harder to learn and become proficient. I would love to be able to practice surfing here. I think you could progress so much quicker! Id teach surfers to snowboard and they were pretty good after a week! Unfortunately going from a snowboard to a surfboard took me several days to just catch and ride a wave consistently . It took me a month of living the beach and surfing every day to just become decent, make turns, etc.

      Im designing a wave trainer. It is just for teaching the basic movement of pumping down the wave. The basic movement that is hard to learn in the wild. The learner will get on the trainer, get the motion down with help by a pro, then go out surfing with a teacher that gets them into the wall of the wave so the learner now just replicates the motion.
      I suspect a athletic person can learn to surf in one day!

Whew, deep (shallow?) subject, pros and cons, pricey and less soulful, but looks like it advances your surfing at an accelerated pace, not waiting on wind and swell, so............we're evolving. Hey mate, would you say take a higher volume PU for buoyancy? Ive got an advanced turns booked next week on my forehand (bobby quad), and Advanced on my backhand, and for this session I was thinking either my Pyzel Ghost or slightly higher volume BlackBox 3 Swallow. I did just get a JS Xero with more volume than both of those but unsure what to take. I also paid for advanced board hire aswell. Old boy been surfing for a long time but don't want waste my sessions surfing the wrong equipment given the price 😊. Im quite a bigger framed bloke aswell. Any tips on a board to grab from the urban surf racks for my backside Advanced sesh? I promise I wont hold a grudge if it doesn't work out haha Just curious if a Rnd pintail sits any different in the face in fresh water? Much love from South Oz Surfer 🤙(or should I just grab some suitable shapes in Epoxy from their racks for more float)?

    I'm not really a fan of wave pools. I've never been to one. I hear they're really expensive. But a lot of things are pretty expensive I guess. I often take a bag and pick up trash at the beach, people leave things and stuff washes up especially after a rain. From what I've seen, surfboards last pretty much forever. I use a deck pad and that also lasts forever which means less wax. When I use the right temperature wax, it stays on for months. I don't think much of it washes away, it seems to stay on and just turn brown or black over time. I'll change it and usually throw away what's about a golf ball size of old wax. I don't know if it can be used for something or recycled. When a wetsuit no longer fits, it can be sold and they wear out really slowly lasting as long as 10 years if you repair the seams . Also, there is recycling of them for many things around the house. The material is very useful for home repairs and insulation. A lot of people have this idea that surfers waste a lot of fossil fuel based resources. If I drive to the beach it is often going to or returning from other errands or work. Surfers don't typically put their old suits or broken surf boards in the land fill. This is a myth. The vast majority of old surfboards are on walls or in people's garages waiting for a upcoming beginner to use. There's not a lot of people where I surf, so I don't pay to park and I walk and ride a bike sometimes. The waves are free here and there's no carbon footprint in the actual act of surfing in the ocean, at least not that I know of. When beachcombers come up to me and ask about the carbon footprint, I will explain these things to them. I will mention that If it is carbon footprint which they're looking for, to try the war business.

  • @exister
    @exister 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a deep seeded aversion to bodyboarding saying that they were taking the first ones because the last ones are "harder to ride" ..no one wants the last ones of the set if you have surfed the expert session. The reason bodyboarders would rather miss a turn to get pick of the next set is because of the air-section. The last waves of the set aren't harder to ride for spongers, they just don't offer a hollow barrel and the option to hit a big lip. The expert sessions always have more bodyboarders than the other tiers, why would they pay more to end up on a wave more akin to advanced? It ends up being a good trade cause the stand-ups out get a couple extra waves when the boogers miss a turn - no need to diss em, unless you just didn't consider that they are looking for different things.

    • @Indonesiansurftravel
      @Indonesiansurftravel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He wasn't dissing bodyboarders, he was just painting a picture for everyone, which is the wave quality of the last waves in the set is low enough that bodyboarders give it a miss.
      Having never surfed the pool myself, him pointing this out makes me understand how much lower in quality the last waves must be to the first waves.

    • @exister
      @exister 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Indonesiansurftravel ah yep, I re watched it and his tone wasn't as harsh as I thought the first time, and the way he said "the bodyboarders were loving it" afterward was super optimistic. Thanks for pointing that out to me, I was actually thinking it seemed out of character cause the rest of the video was very well balanced.

    We might be getting a similar wave pool (perhaps not the comprehensive training programs) in Fort Pierce, Florida, of all places. It's reasonably near a modest break at an inlet jetty that's more or less at capacity. No prospect for a new inlet. Nor for our bit of the Atlantic to generate more waves. Could we please get nice Australian architecture? Being Florida, I can imagine a whole bunch of "Mediterranean" stucco.

      @@Heavens-Humanaterian-Army The US real estate developer (with another project in South Carolina) seems reasonably sophisticated. What I'm seeing from the UK is that training coordinated with wave pool can work (haven't visited, but Rob Barber's Bodyboard Holidays business out of Newquay suggests a lot of good sense in terms of combining beach and wave pool training, and developing training methods. Of course Florida is terrible in terms of access to actual waves.
      As for the US projects, they're subject to finding backers and the vagaries of the market. Right now, plain ordinary housing is selling fast, so why bother with attractions?

    Hi all can anyone tell me if this type of sports venue is up here in Queensland....and if not how many people would like there to be one similar to this in Brisbane.(yes I know there's an experimental pond that's never going to be for public usage...and yes I ment basically this park but a bit prettier mayby ..not just another wet and wild or wave pool for swimmers...strictly for surfing and body boarders)

    Trying to progress in surfing is challenging, and this solves the problem. Most people spend the majority of their time paddling and waiting for waves. Only a fraction is spent actually surfing. If I catch 24 waves, and each ride lasts 5 seconds, I'm only surfing 2 minutes. Ridiculous. Skiing is the opposite because people ride ski lifts. No world cup skier hikes for turns while training. If I had the money, I would be getting lessons at this facility every few days.

    If I signed up for an intermediate session and then realised after a couple of waves that the cruiser session was better for me, is it too late to swap out? Im not really sure where I’d fit and I dont want to waste that kind of money and time choosing the wrong level.

    • @Indonesiansurftravel
      @Indonesiansurftravel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I doubt they would allow that, best to take the cruiser session, if its too mellow next time go the intermediate session.
