I’m a plumbing contractor for 35 yrs. Plumbers have a saying, “you can tell how advanced a society is by how they deal with plumbing, sewers and drainage.” If a country has fake drains, fake sewers and floods a lot, then the country is primitive, and not an advanced country.

Well... Xi asked the engineers, if it is possible. And they told him, it is possible. So Xi said: okay, let's do it. It's too simple to blame the one person in charge of everything, but what about all those okey-dokeys below? Aren't they to blame, too? The one thing to blame Xi in my opinion is, that as a leader he fails terribly to encourage those people in China capable of achieving great things. There are those people capable, but due to the system those will never get a real chance, because of shoelicking whimsy-winies on all levels of the chinese bureaucracy preventing them from doing so.

Aahhh the CCP are thinking ahead in their "build it and they will come" way. The *plan* is to turn the artificially green surroundings into a futuristic dystopian nightmare - sorry, not sure what happened there - a futuristic mega city with millions of inhabitants. They're big on plans the old CCP aren't they? I'm not denying the importance of putting in decent infrastructure before city planning, but it's the bizarrely huge scale that China is obsessed with that's sometimes hard to easily perceive and fix in your mind.
On my tiny overcrowded island, we're desperately short of good motorways, decent ordinary roads, and housing. We would be salivating at some of China's 12 lane expressways, but we'd have to knock over so many towns that the public would be in the streets throwing bricks at shop windows.
China, on the other hand, just flattens the towns regardless, with nary a brick in sight, not even a raised eyebrow. Different strokes, different totalitarian regimes....

China has all the fertile soil because of past record flooding that brought in all the rich sediments. It is part of their geography and environment in China. The problem is, they keep building dams all over China; including that massive Three Gorges Dam which is the largest in the world. When the rains and typhoons come, they have to discharge water from the dams which results in even more flooding down river, worse than if they hadn't built them to begin with. They have to do it to prevent a breech of the dam. Also, smaller poorly built dams break with all the rain that region gets. They planned everything out poorly. If the Three Gorges Dam breaks, it will send a torrent of water into China's heavily populated cities. It would be massive destruction of their infrastructure and military. The communist CCP is constantly putting their citizens in danger because of GREED! Their haughty arrogance will be the destruction of the Chinese.

The lack of drainage systems and stormwater management is astounding. China's ancestor's knew the importance and necessity city drainage and stormwater management, they have buildings thousands of years old that have well engineered drainage that proves this. ~ CCP's priorities are wrong, it should FIRST build stormwater/sewer management systems into their cities and urban areas to prevent flooding, protect lives, property, crops. And then the government can focus on mass transit, freeways, passenger and freight rail and High Speed Rail. ~ Stormwater/sewer management systems are the basic building blocks necessary for the foundations of all city structures, these projects should be #1. ~ If the Chinese people had to choose between good drainage or High Speed Rail, I'm sure they would choose good stormwater drainage that protects their lives, their crops, and their property, rather than High Speed Rail!

    • @Debbiebabe69

China is actually very good at building drainage and stormwater management.
The problem is, in the mid 1900s the Chinese were attacked by invaders and driven out of thier country, remaining only on the island of Taiwan. The people left on mainland China became serfs to the invaders - the invaders and conquerors were called the 'Communists' and they still have mainland China under their control.
