  • A review on the new 2023 Beta 300rr Race Edition. Beta made some nice improvements including a new clutch and full KYB suspension on this model. I also take a ride on the standard 300rr to compare the two models.

    Yah conditions looked way better than I expected. This is a very cool bike and I am jealous of that new clutch design.

      Sherco will have a similar clutch next year. In the meantime I did see that someone sells a dds conversion clutch for your bikes.

    I think the brake issue is due to the stock brake pads. My xtrainer was waaay toooo grabby. Changed the pads and the brakes are great.

    I’m a med/fast trail rider looking for something I can race sprint enduros and gncc on occasionally. I’ve been eyeing the new ktm xcw with the tbi. I’ve just now got around to checking out the beta stuff and I like what I see.

    So did you end up liking the RR better than the Race Edition? Also, how does the Race Edition compare to the 23 KTM 300XC? BTW, first "Ride Day" I've ever seen that let the riders ever really test in conditions like you had. Good for Beta.

  • @TheKitchenTechnician

    I have always found the KYB suspension on the four WR 450’s I have owned way too stiff for single track, even set up at their softest positions. I typically remove one spring and add a schrader valve and make one an air fork. I recently had one of the two WR’s I still had stolen and replaced it with a new Beta 300RR without the KYB suspension on the recommendation of the longtime Beta dealer near me. The type of trail riding I do is typical of what you do and I think the 300 with the KYB suspension is not a great match. The cachet of the KYB suspension is a big draw for a lot of riders but in the long run, for technical single track, and the odd fire road, it’s overkill. Thanks for the timely trail ride video. Cheers! From North Eastern Ontario.

    • @PNWEnduro
      @PNWEnduro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The KYB suspension is quite versatile though so lot can be done with valving. Of course this can be expensive. It's set up much better for this type of riding on the Shercos. I've never heard of anyone converting them to air, interesting. Thanks for watching.

  • @captainwin6333
    @captainwin6333 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The suspension feels 'stiff' because it's the RR race edition and it's meant to be raced at 100%. A race bike has suspension biased to going 10/10ths. It's not designed or aimed at trail rides.
    Anyone who just wants to ride trails and not race is better off with the base version because the suspension is more compliant. Unless they're a big porker of a guy and the stiffer suspension will feel more compliant to them but for most, the base version is more than enough bike.
    That's not unique to Beta but it's the same with every manufacturer.
    I know people like to think the KYB is 'better' and side by side with the base suspension it is, but not if you're not riding at 10/10ths. Horses for courses.

    • @PNWEnduro
      @PNWEnduro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I agree it's set up stiff for that reason. I would need it to be re-valved. On the other hand my Sherco 300SE has the same KYB suspension and it's already valved great for the riding I do. Most people seem to want this race edition, mostly because of the KYB, it's sold out in Canada this year but you can still buy the standard 300rr.

    • @sfade6217
      @sfade6217 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PNWEnduro you think the 300SE is setup well until you have a KYB tuner revalve and you realize how much you were missing. Wasnt until 110hrs until I had my sherco revalved and kicking myself for waiting...game changer!

    I was out on the island the week before the Beta demo days. Would have liked to try a 200 RR and a 390 RR-S if they had them.
    I have had 4 Beta bikes so far (480rr, 300 evo, and 2 x 300 rr). Would consider another one if only they had bikes at the dealers. KTM and Gas Gas are reasonably abundant but not much for Beta right now.

    • @PNWEnduro
      @PNWEnduro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They had the 200rr race, two Xtrainers, a 350rr and the 300rr to try. Interesting Beta is short on bikes to sell, the other brands are offering reduced prices and incentives because they have too many bikes sitting.

    The 23's were supposed to have different rads to facilitate a tighter turning radius. Sounds like it's either not the case with this model or it didn't make enough of a difference to improve it. Or they didn't adjust the stops as far as the new rads are supposed to allow.

    • @PNWEnduro
      @PNWEnduro  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was not aware of different rads. It feels about the same as previous years and the stops were all the way in on the 300rr race edition. The Xtrainer (different frame) had a better turning radius.

    • @brianq103
      @brianq103 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PNWEnduro Shame, this was something they were supposed to have addressed. Well then I guess it's back to bashing the rads in to clear the forks!

    • @danekline7913
      @danekline7913 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Take the stopping bolts out, and put a jam nut instead of a regular nut, it’s about half the width or you can put a washer until the forks don’t touch the radiators.

    • @PNWEnduro
      @PNWEnduro  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dane Kline even then it's not the best. Denting the top of the rads is a common mod to allow for more range in the turning radius.
