Some of the most beautiful moments in music come thru McLaughlin's playing. I don't care what his critics say. He speaks to me and it brings a world of music filled with spiritual passion and fulfillment.
critics? even the most critical Zappa said you have to respect somebody who can play a guitar like a machine gun. But this song has always proved me his delicate side. One of the greatest (although I like Paco de Lucia better when they get together, but that is comparing two types of expensive diamonds). I don't think anybody can debate the badassery of McLaughlin.
Critics know nothing and have no soul if they cant FEEL Johns playing and composition regardless of the fact that hes one of the most technically advanced players ever and has been so prolific and diverse and evolutionary - no one has done what he has done. A true Avatar* amongst us * en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar
music has a power..can speak to you or not .....criticks who are they ?? ...maybe deaff or mybe not on the same page..dose it metter. hear that in 1976 and thay will play when I drop dead. ...:O)
Once again great music from two of the best that ever walked the earth. They're always amazing and brilliant. Two Giants of Jazz Fusion and music period. I've seen them several times but not together. I wish I could have been there. Long live both of them and keep playing and entertaining us.
Superb, was lucky enough to catch Five Peace Band a few years back, as well as the Mahavishnu Orchestra in 1974, John and Ponty, what a combination !!!!! .
Difficult to imagine music more beautiful than this, in any age or time or space. Seven gave this a thumbs down - what??!! I guess it takes all sorts...
Awesome! Musicians as wonderful as these guys are like great poets or painters. McLaughlin looks like an elder statesman from planet jazz these days. He is a class act. Great upload-thank you!
Amazing violin solo from Jean-Luc, and just watch Zakir jump on those triplets! John is relaxed and sensitive here, playing beautiful accompaniment. Bravo.
Such beauty in such small form. You know these guys go to a different experiential plane when they perform this well. May we all be blessed to hear musicianship of this caliber live at least once in our lives. I have been blessed many times over to hear giants such as these.
Beautiful tune ...I studied tabla with a great guri and studied music composition with the late great John Mayer an Indian composer and violinist from Calcutta who created and pioneered Indo jazz fusion music...I was lucky to have studied with John for over 3years ... I wrote my first fusion symphony a few years ago for orchestra ,jazz ensemble and Indian ensemble... Called Bombay is Weeping.. I lived in Bombay/Mumbai for a year and wrote a poem that eventually became a symphony.. I now devide my time being a full time fashion designer and Tailor with my own shop but I still have a music studio ,where I go and practice my drums ... Utub needs to make transparent those idiots and bufoons who put dislike up so we can message those uncultured morons a personal message !!! Beautiful music ,remindse back at music school immersed in learning Indian music
@@andyokus5735 here's a fusion symphony I wrote based on an Indian raga.. The symphony lasted 1 hour and 5 minutes but had to condense it to around 15 minutes for u tube.. th-cam.com/video/qa2w5M1jdWI/w-d-xo.html
They played together in the 2nd edition of mahavishnu....however they didn't exactly get along. Daryl Stuermer showed up at his audition for the ponty gig with a double neck guitar and Jean told him to get rid of it!
Beautiful music - lovely restrained playing. McLaughlin's critics like to condemn him for doing nothing but shredding, but they should listen to his beautiful, subtle chord playing here - and, as another example, on 'Desert Song', on Stanley Clarke's 'School Days' album. Thanks for uploading.
Tres grandes músicos . Esta canción realmente es relajante y muy emocionante . Después de escuchar a lo largo de años álbumes de mahavishnu , gracias John mclaughlin

It's such a shame UNESCO decided to remove the complete, HD video of the International Jazz Concert 2013 from TH-cam. Why? Doesn't that go completely against the spirit of the event and also against UNESCO's fulfillment of its own mission? Lotus Feet was magical to experience. ...:/
Exactly. I'm a citizen of İstanbul and that was exactly what I thought when they announced the concert would be invitation-only. And now they've taken away the concert video. Against the spirit indeed.
It would be marvellous when John could get Ralphe Armstrong and Michael Waldon in this group again to play like on his "visions on the emerald beyond" album. I find that Ralphe A. is an extremely underrated jazzbass-player.(don´t know about his current whereabouts)
@Tarabos1: Ralphe's back in Motown: www.detroitmusicfactory.com/artists/ralphe-armstrong And I completely agree. Heard him at a gig a while back (playing a full size fiddle) and he's better than ever. Subtle, sophisticated and an astonishing control of harmonics.
when l listen to lotus feet I imagine THE BUDDHA walking on lotuses ,JESUS rising in the heavens,MOSES croosing the dry Red sea,IBN ARABI savouring his epiphanies ,but especially our beloved prophet MOHAMMED (PBUH) ascending through the 7 heavens to meet ALLAH (glory on him
Bitterly disappointed I was not sold a ticket to this. The night show was "invite only" so in other words a rent a crowd and not true fans of these musicians. What a joke.
Muy bueno la verdad! mucha calidez, aqui les comparto algunas melodias Patagonicas th-cam.com/video/IGfnRD66DwE/w-d-xo.html espero les guste, Saludos desde el Sur...
rent a crowd implies they paid for their audience. I do not believe that for one second. and I wonder what on earth makes you say the people there were not fans? You were not there so how do you know? You don't know and so its your comment itself that's the joke here. Those are 3 of the worlds greatest musicians playing on a single stage constitutes a miracle and that's the best you have to offer about it? You should be ashamed.

Thank You very much From Chile South América
Saw him in ‘74-‘75 at Barton Hall at Cornell. Those were the days. What power and sophistication.
Ken
great to see John and Jean-Luc play together!
Yeah, there is still a tiny bit of sanity in the world when this is playing.
Can't stop listening to this It's the best version I've heard and Jean Luc nails it
Yes he did

I've always loved this tune.

supremation of 70's, my jazz day start by those guys
Regardless of who was there, they were treated to some fantastic music by musicians who continue to elevate. This a nice version! Thanks,
A Thracian greeting and ... Thank you!
Great performance and on of my favourite pieces, transports me away from the mundane world. Thanks for the upload.
Witchitai, such beautiful touching music, good couple of musicians, a good start of my day.....
WOOOOOOW... very elegant... as charming as McLaughlin & de Lucia's acoustic version... the unique Ponty touch is really intense there..
I met Zakir when he was on tour with Herbie Hancock, wonderful guy, very apprachable and a joyous fellow all-around, same thing with Herbie.
Thanks for posting this amazing video!!
SUPERB !
Pitty time is passing for them too...

I just luv this. It feeds the soul. It takes music and me to a more spiritual level. Thank you
3 Angels fall down to earth and when they meet began to play for God
pure beauty
McLaughlin must be thinking , "Why didn't I play with this guy more?" Ponty solos magnificenly!!!
They played together in the 2nd edition of mahavishnu....however they didn't exactly get along. Daryl Stuermer showed up at his audition for the ponty gig with a double neck guitar and Jean told him to get rid of it!
I also like very much solo on bansuri flute, just listen this:

I personally haven't seen better use of tabla...unbelievable
John's tone in this performance is warm and beautiful...could he possibly be playing through an amp instead of an Apple?
Exactly. I'm a citizen of İstanbul and that was exactly what I thought when they announced the concert would be invitation-only. And now they've taken away the concert video. Against the spirit indeed.
Very elites indeed.
5:20 WOW!

So Krishna can't feature in your story but the idea of "Lotus feet" is a Hindu one ?

He is considered a God of his instrument. Zakir Hussain is his name
İstanbul - Turkey ... 1 May 2013 jazz concert - Topkapı Palace - Aya İrini Church
Anyone that thinks JM shreds is NOT listening to his music - or doesn't know what shredding is.
feels a little stiff, but nice to see John and Jean-Luc on stage together
Supremo

Si certains musiciens ont été désignés par la main de Dieu, ceux la en font assurément partie.
