  • What would you do if aliens invaded the earth? Could you survive? How about surviving a simple hurricane? In this film (which is a sequel to Alien Invasion 1), you'll learn many lessons about emergency preparedness through the lens of a planet-wide alien invasion. I love this series! It’s great experiencing the AI through such a limited perspective while also learning about survival. I’m only half way through this season, but I can imagine a season 3 where the AI is winding down, maybe even leaving, and the threat comes from the military trying to regain control of the people. This way you could cover militia type scenarios, or even just playing your part in a community. Great stuff, I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of it.

    You could take a bunch of those tiny sticks and rub them with a stone, like grinding grain for flower. Then you'd have a little bag of fire staring powder you could store and carry with your flint. And the little plastic bag can then also keep it dry. Especially if you drop a piece of charcoal in with it. You could also grid down the charcoal into powder as well. Blend the two media even.

    • @PraxisPrepper
      @PraxisPrepper  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree for sure on the charcoal. That's hands down my fave fire starting medium. I've never blended it as a powder with other powdered materials. Maybe I'll try that sometime.

    "Boiled" large stones, then wrapped, better heat held for warmth than water bottle. Carpeting inside and out with moss sod would have helped as well. Anything wool is best for warmth. Reclaimed couch cushions are a comfort . Pine sap is great antibiotic for skin. I was homeless in a tent for 4 months on purpose to see if I could. Never sleep with your socks and shoes on. Until you try this you have no idea what you are capable of. I love your videos!

    • @PraxisPrepper
      @PraxisPrepper  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good tips - and clearly from experience. I learned my water bottle "hack" from when I used to live in a trailer that wasn't very well insulated. I brought them to bed and they seemed to work well to stay warm. I'm sure stones would work great too if one could safely get them wrapped up. One not on stones though is that if a stone has water content inside and is placed in a fire, they can have the capacity to explode like hand grenades when the water inside boils. I've never personally witnessed an extreme example of this - only little flakes popping off. But from what I hear, sometimes it can be dangerous.

      @@PraxisPrepper Boil them to desired temp, don't put directly in fire. Being heated gradual maybe is why I never had a bomb effect? I grew up in the Wyoming and Dakota territory as a child in the 60's. We were poorer than church mice. 5 kids, a rat terrier and our folks living in a two-bedroom trailer house. We were like Gypsie's. Dad worked road construction for Peter Kiewit and helped build and repair Hwy 90 in the Northern states, and Hwy 40 Southern. We moved nearly every 6 months, for over 7 years! Winter in Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas, far from any town, perhaps seemed brutal for my parents. But us kids just thought it part of life. Hunting for our meat source etc. Those 7 years prepared us kids for a whatever-comes-life. And we thrived. Your movies and videos are so Vital. Besides the 3 R's, this is what should be a required learning in school, not the garbage they are teaching. You are so appreciated!

    • @PraxisPrepper
      @PraxisPrepper  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you're right about the slow warming of stones being safer. The slow rise in temp would give trapped gasses more time to leak out without forcing a violent pop. Thanks for that praise of my work here too. That means a lot to me - especially coming from someone who clearly knows what she's talking about. I think all preppers have a little origin story to tell about what got us on this road - myself included. But mine pales compared to the hardcore training you got in your childhood.@@Jilly-Kerry-2Mullens

    Morning Praxis, as this video is a little old now, I am unsure you still read the comments. At any rate I finally found a little time to get the part 2 done. I learned a couple of things that I can use in addition to enjoy the ongoing story. I look forward to 3. I have a couple of thoughts. One for making a water filter, in the situation your character is in, there would be many tea urns around any resturant. Those are ideal to make a filter in, even complete with a faucet. Though I would recommend a layer of pebbles at the bottom. But my big difference of opinion is the value of the silver the character found, those would be of value in this type of enviroment. Silver has antibactorial properties. Even dropping one of those coins in your water storage would be helpful. In addition with a battery you could make ionized silver solutions, this while far from a wonder drug would be helpful in certain situations. You might mention that both the cash and the gold would be of value under other shtf situations. At least in the first few days of an grid down. Most people would still value it and it could be used in trade for what most will really need, food. I would enjoy knowing just becase inquiring minds like to know. What was your investment in time and budget to make this series? Even though clearly you are well off, this still must have put some strain on your resources, not to mention family time. I can just imigine the wife and kids comments around your shelter. Something I could not do. I would have to take the risk of finding and staying in something with a septic tank attached. Trust me when you reach my age, this is something you may find you agree with me on.

    • @PraxisPrepper
      @PraxisPrepper  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you got to enjoy the rest of it. Thanks for letting me know. I like your old repurposed coffee dispenser idea. It might be a bit hard to prevent "short-circuiting" of the filter material though. Those things (if I recall properly) had a lot of insulation around them, and the central chamber was somewhat narrow. One key thing in building this sort of thing is to prevent the water simply flowing around the filtering medium. I bet it could be done though. Neat idea. On the silver, yeah, I see your point - and it's a worthwhile one. I wanted to stress the criticality of actual materials of survival over trade materials. But you're correct of course that silver has actual practical uses as well.

    • @charlescoffey9523
      @charlescoffey9523 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PraxisPrepper Not coffee urns, my friend, tea urns, they are stainless steel and vary from 3.5 to 5 gallon with a dispense valve at the bottom. They would be no worse for by pass than a plastic bucket. As you mentioned in the series, a textile placed at each of the filter interfaces would help. Your character, found some clothing when making salvaging runs into town, a bet there was a few tee shirts floating around, another improvement if there were some around to be aquired would have been diamatious earth, there are complications to using DE in a filter but it is an exceptionally good filter meda. It is often used in the pool industry because it is exceptional in filtering out water born pathagenes, down to 4 um. I at one time in my life took care of the pools in a YMCA in the Binghamton area, was even a licensed pool operator. The media is common and should be easily found when scouting abandoned areas. In a pool screens are used to hold the DE but tee shirts would be effective, I should think, though I have never tried it. Another pool chemical that a prepper should know about is Calcium Hypochlorite, or shock. This is a powdered bleach and a little goes a long way. It has gotten a little expensive of late but used to be dirt cheap. I keep a lot of it in stock, I even made sure my neighbor who has kids has some that I vaccume sealed into jars. It does need to be kept dry and any tear in container will eventually kill it, otherwise it will last basically forever, unlike liquied bleach which will only last a few months. Even filters removed from commerical buildings could be used with some work, if it were a long term event. We take clean drinking water for granted and I am always surprised how few people really understand just how important it is, as well as how easily it can go away. I have a well, and a septic tank, another luxary that no sane human should be without. But my water preps, include the well, various ways of getting it out of the ground, filtering means, chemical treatment for the really long haul. But my short term solution is that I have 5 gallon distilled and oxygenated water delivered each month, every month I get what we use plus 2, they also drop a couple of cases of the same water in 20 oz bottles. I have about 50 bottles and steadly growing, these are stacked under a tarp as any water, even the pure stuff I buy will grow alge in it if left exposed to the light, plus we use a first in first out approach to stocking. Have a great day and thank you for the hard work. I stil bet your wife and kids gave you a hard time about your shelter in the woods.
