This is an awesome video. Never considered a penguin as a pet, but dang now I want a few! Obviously it aint going to happen, but I appreciate these birds even more. Thank you for sharing this experience.
Doves are way easier to care for than most birds. Unlike our cockatiel, we even managed to train our dove to always fly back to her cage before pooping so there was not much mess.
Thank you so much for making this video. I love the videos you do that are essentially plugs for zoos and aquariums. Those institutions are critical for the survival of all sorts of engendered species and they need are support. It takes a lot of money to keep those penguins fed. And besides where else are you going to get to see penguins?
Dude, 7c is not that cold! I was thinking they'd need minus temperatures when you were saying really cold! Where I live you're lucky if it ever gets warmer than that during the winter.
I've personally interacted with Harlequins and Rockhoppers at Shedd. Honestly, they seem to be content to just hang around, they don't really like to be handled physically but they don't seem to have any issue with being in close proximity with people. I have to 100% agree with your handleability assessment with the caveat that smaller penguins would be easier to handle.
Point of order. Only Adelie and Emperor penguins live year round on Antartica. Most species actually live in warmer climates like South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and similar.
Penguins are like human childrens, great when you can just hang out then have someone else be the full time caretaker. (I love being an uncle, get to play with the littles, then give them back to my siblings when they get a bit much lol)
Truly the perfect pet. 5 for availability, 5 for handleability, 5 for care, 5 for hardiness, and 5 for upfront costs. Also adorable if you put googly eyes on them.
Rock Hoppers are my favourite penguins. I made an entire book explaining penguins for a project before as a kid and also had recorded sounds of the penguins at the zoo. It was a lot of fun, 99% certain my mom still has it and I can find it.

Sorry, I missed this when you first posted. However, I only discovered your channel about 8 months ago. My undergrad degree is in Biology from Univ Missouri, Columbia. I love your channel! My late mother grew up in Chile before and during WWII. Her father was part owner of the huge nitrate (ancient bird guano) mine near the port of Antofagasta, Chile. She told me Admiral Richard Byrd was a friend of her father's. On one visit to their house, he brought my mom a pet penguin. My guess is that the penguin was either of the Magellanic or Humbert species. It could have been a Galapagos penguin, but she said it was pretty big. Anyway, the penguin had one friend because the Admiral brought a second one for her little sister. This would have been in the late 1930's, so I am sure no special permissions or licenses were required. I wish I had asked more about the Penguins and Admiral Byrd.

So I turned to the wife and asked her if she likes penguins.
After thinking a little she shook her head no.
So I should avoid my wife and I can only agree.
If it’s just indifference instead of blatant dislike, you might justify still coexisting in the same house with her.
you can get the Gen 1 penguins a lot cheaper on the used market, though they won’t have as many of the newer features you see on these guys
I love how after you said hi. You just said nope.
What a perfect Christmas video. Thanks Clint
The way they all walked out of the room like they didn't have time for people
Nice Batman/Penguin reference! Penguins are one of my 3 or so favorite animals, and while I never wanted to have one, going to a flippin Penguin Encounter is a bucket list item for sure!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU & YOUR FAMILY! Stay safe & Stay healthy! Thank you for always making videos to further educate your viewers ✨
Thank you!
"You pretty much have to do things on their terms and, in general, they don't like to be touched."
'Every parrot owner nods on agreement'
This is an awesome video. Never considered a penguin as a pet, but dang now I want a few! Obviously it aint going to happen, but I appreciate these birds even more. Thank you for sharing this experience.
Merry Christmas, Clint! Squashing my dream of being the next Mr. Popper.
At least they take fish for food, I'd imagine the krill-feeding species would be even harder to feed.
I love all birds but working with penguins is a dream of mine
"I don't think there are birds that are less suitable to be kept as a pet"
The cassowary would like to know your location
Just wait, I'm gonna get my penguins.
Even if it's just by moving to NZ and grabbing one that walks around.
Edit: don't grab random penguins, please.
This is officially my new favorite video from Clint’s Reptiles!
Clint, doves need representation.
Please make a pigeon/dove video, you would be a phenomenal person to publicize their pet-perfection 🤙🏻
This is one of the best videos on this channel. I loved this animal encounter!!
I like the format of this video, leaving the video room , I mean . It reminds me kind of like the old Jack Hannah show. Thanks for the show!
Peregrine falcons and western screech owls don't seem too bad compared to these. Merry Christmas btw Clint!!!
chillin with pinguins. id like to check that of my bucket list
Aw thank you this video. Beautifully made.
The fastest Penguin on the planet Gentoo penguins I love them so much
This is the best Christmas special I've seen in years.
Dude, 7c is not that cold! I was thinking they'd need minus temperatures when you were saying really cold! Where I live you're lucky if it ever gets warmer than that during the winter.
Owning a penguin never came to mind at all. lol Another great episode!
I love the videos that start with the phrase "no"
Like, you don't even need to score to know theyre a bad pet but I love these videos the best anyways
20:34 he said, “if you’re going to ask about penguin care and information then why not talk to a penguin! I’m right here!” 😂❤
Point of order. Only Adelie and Emperor penguins live year round on Antartica. Most species actually live in warmer climates like South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and similar.
Clint this was perfect for Christmas haha thanks and happy Christmas to you
My brain every time he says the species' name:
Gen. 2 Penguin
They come from johto
Penguins are like human childrens, great when you can just hang out then have someone else be the full time caretaker. (I love being an uncle, get to play with the littles, then give them back to my siblings when they get a bit much lol)
penguins are the classiest of all birds, they always have their best tuxedo on
I could see Dr. Evil replacing his piranha tank with a room full of man-eating penguins.
For April Fools, I think it'd be really funny if you covered a pet rock in this series
Truly the perfect pet. 5 for availability, 5 for handleability, 5 for care, 5 for hardiness, and 5 for upfront costs. Also adorable if you put googly eyes on them.
@@lauriepenner350 Or...Maybe for a few people, it is the WORST PET. We shall see, no? 😼
Rock Hoppers are my favourite penguins. I made an entire book explaining penguins for a project before as a kid and also had recorded sounds of the penguins at the zoo. It was a lot of fun, 99% certain my mom still has it and I can find it.
"he wants to be in this room" penguin does 180 and waddles off
That penguin nerd is so cool.
Yours is the coolest animal channel, don't ever change
Mister Popper lied to me! He kept his in a refrigerator with a pet door, and he said nothing about the poop situation.
Seriously, that book made me want a penguin flock so bad as a kid.
5 second in- nope! not at all! I appreciated this straight to the point honesty. Good day, sir
Merry Clintmas to all, and to all a good pet reptile and/or amphibian and/or invert!!
Thank you, Newt!
And to you too Newt 😁
I know the Linux Penguin is the best pet operating system for sure
Make sure to not have any windows on the enclosure
Eeee Loveland Aquarium! I moved out of Utah so I can't go back, but I love the shark tunnel! Have you seen the wobbegong? Super fascinating!
let's be honest, the only person who can keep a penguin as a pet is Misato.
So, penguin is the worst pet bird?
It's settled then
I'm buying a cassowary.
