  • In this video I will show you how to install a new headlight harness on a Jeep Cherokee XJ. This Headlight harness eliminates the issues of dim headlights as well as flickering LED headlights from when the lights are off. This process may be similar on other Jeep models such as the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. I will show you how to install the new wire harness from start to finish. If you have any other questions that the video doesn't cover make sure to comment below and I would be happy to answer.

    Great videos! This one helped my son wire his 97xj for new LEDs. For you that are running factory fogs -Jeepcables added a pigtail to driver’s side plug to splice into 20ga red wire on existing plug. This solved the issue of the brights staying on!

      Did you try this? Did it work? My headlights don't come on at all. Not even the high beams. I've tried everything. I installed a new headlight switch, new headlight switch harness, connected a new turn signal switch in the steering column and of course checked all fuses. If this plugs into the existing headlight connector on the passenger side how does it bypass anything?

    the relay upgrade is the number one best thing you can do for a cherokee. and the stock headlights are just fine once your getting a full 13ish volts to them. second best mod? 180* thermostat.

    I’m working on this now. Will be installing on a 99 with factory fogs, a 96 with factory fogs, and a 95 YJ where I intend ti recreate factory fogs. So will be interesting. Need to buy the wire connectors to hook up that pigtail. Only question is whether it’s needed on the 96. Based on wiring diagram (I’ve exhaustively researched the fogs), I think it will be necessary.

      That's why i've been considering some h4 conversions. It's a bit more work, but you can keep a stock-looking housing and have your choice of bulb. One of the biggest problems with choosing LEDs is if you go cheap, they're crap. They don't last or they have a bad light spread. But if you go expensive, you've got a nicer quality build, better spread, but you'll still want niceities like jw speakers heated lights because LEDs don't always put out enough heat to melt stuff off in colder climates. If you do consider any h4 conversions, i'd recommend getting some Hella ece rated (euro standard, better than dot standard and accepted in all states for inspection) housings and research the bulbs you want to go with. I'm planning on boslla bulbs because they have an easy multi-color switch for different weather (the more yellow, the better for snow and fog).
      I've done well with just the housing upgrade, but i'd feel a lot safer with some new lights with how much the LEDs of other cars now drown out my vision

      I know these are old comments but... meh.
      We went with h4 4 housings with led halos off ebay in fact. They look great, are super bright AND they still melt the snow .... very very important for winter driving herw

    I purchased the jeep cable daylight headlight harness for LED lights for my 2001 XJ and I have an extra brown wire off of the drivers headlight connector that is about 6” long and ends with a butt connector. Where does that butt connector connect to !!!! Just purchased and received Monday. Got the LEDs last Friday. Installed got it all together WOW do I have lights.

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That wire should be a ground, i would double check with a multi-meter or power probe. You can extend a ground wire to it or cut it off to add an eyelet connector to ground it somewhere close.

    Did you adjust the new lights with the aimer bolts (those usually snap and the springs shoot apart)

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did, just didnt include it in this video since I have 2 other videos going over that and the focus was on the wire harness. If they do break I believe you can get them on Amazon for fairly cheap. They are not necessarily spring loaded but there is just one spring that is located an one corner of the headlight housing that keeps the whole system under tention.

  • @coachgeo

    drat..... looks like this harness wont solve my (and likely many other folks) issues. As in it plugs into the OEM harness..... that on our older rigs....... IS THE ISSUE. It is the OEM light wiring harness that is failing.

    I have a 1991 Cherokee Briarwood where the headlights turn on, but then begin to cut off and on after about 10 minutes. Do you think upgrading the cables would solve this issue?

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should, it sounds like the main issue may be the headlight switch shorting out due to being overloaded or worn out. I would look into replacing that as well.

    Just a random question, does this remove radio interference you get with these headlights? I bought these for my 92 and everytime I turn on my headlights the reception is extremely staticky, thought maybe I needed a new antenna or something, but its just downright bad reception when they're on.

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, I'll have to get back to you in that one. I mostly listen to Bluetooth so I am not sure on that one.

    • @IncognitoRS
      @IncognitoRS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OutJeeping I appreciate that, I've been told to use Ferrite cores, but they didn't help in the slightest. Then I was told possibly an anti-flicker harness would work. Radio works fine until you turn the headlights on and all of the FM stations sound like really terrible AM stations, and you lose some stations in reception when you're not even moving. I'm kinda just trying to find anything that'll work at this point to fix this problem. LOL. Never had an issue before using the stock headlights until I switched to LED.

    My headlights don't come on at all. Not even the high beams. It happened while I was driving with a dead alternator, but freshly charged battery. My headlights haven't worked since. • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The new harness just uses the headlight power from the old harness as a signal wire for the relays in the new harness. So the new harness gives the headlights power from a new power source and not drawing that much power through the headlight switch, which originally caused the lights to be dim. But you still need to have your original headlight system working for this to work as well. I would suggest using a multi-meter for diagnosing electrical issues. I would start at the headlight switch and check for the correct power readings.

      I always give it a light tap so the terminal is all the way down and flush with the top of the battery. Otherwise you risk the terminal getting stretched out over time since the battery posts are tapered and smaller at the top.
