Two *hundred* Elvis impersonators. Wow. Also, I was in the city for this weekend (and the week before and after) doing a paramedic internship with the late, lamented NYC*EMS ... So lots and lots of memories ...
I miss this Dave. Anthony Perkins was great as always. To play Norman and come out the other side must have been a mind twister. I think he did it four times.
My aunt would always discuss how scared she was when she went to see the original "Psycho" when it was released. LOL. Mr. Perkins was a Terrific actor. Johnny followed by Dave was great Television. Epic.
I still remember this from when I originally saw it back in the day!! I also still remember "C. Paul Tilson Shaffer", but have yet to find that on TH-cam.
I was a teenager when this aired. It feels so weird to me that this is a period piece now. The hair and clothes on that guy with the weightlifting story...
One thing is a little odd about this: the description calls it the original broadcast version, but there is an "original air date" stamp coming back from the commercial after the Perkins interview.
What E! did here was incorrectly chyron the Re-Run Plus broadcast date, not the original Pre-Rerun Plus date. I’ve linked the Re-Run Plus upload in the description.
In very few instances, like the shows where Dave referred to the Dancing Waters before such a company by that name threatened to sue unless the name was changed; thus why it was then called the Prancing Fluids. When some of the Dancing Waters shows re-aired, the name was muted. Also at the end of the show when Dave announced the next night’s guests. That was cut, and in its place was older generic footage of the band playing while Bill Wendell announced the actual guests for the following night, the show being either a repeat or new. I put together a video on that generic footage - th-cam.com/video/H3pUEqzYECA/w-d-xo.html Also when Dave would give the phone number for a future show where viewers could call in - when repeated, that number was likewise muted.
Thanks for posting!
sandra and dave's oil and water chemistry is hysterical.
Your a Champ Don! Thanks!

Looks like Sandra got a true laugh out of Dave with the "sex kitten" joke. :D
"Chuck.....if this was an airplane would you take off in it?"
"We want to pierce that flat TV screen." --Dave, not apparently realizing TV screens wouldn't be flat for another decade.
The screens were always flat. It was the rest of the TV that wasn't.
God bless Sandra Bernhardt ..
28:25 Paul's line about Bad Axe, Michigan!

Was that sentence created by AI?
Is that 'Do What You Like' by Blind Faith the band plays at 12:00ish, or just something similar?
That’s undoubtedly the song.
7:36 great foreshadowing. 6 years later…

Handing out CBS t-shirts. Who knew that six years later Dave would move from NBC to CBS six years later?
Seven. :)
Dave looks good in purple😎
Would Dave's suit work today, July in 2024?❓

Johnny followed by Dave was a great Era in Late Night Television. Thank-You for sharing. Were the reruns re-edited?

@@dongiller That's right. The famous "Jump Cut" at the end when Mr. Wendell would say: "Tomorrow Night...." lol
