I taught marker rendering at Pratt and I can see that Adam is Master Marker Artist! In my career as an illustrator, I used Beinfang "Graphics 360" Marker Paper, as it's a little less absorbent, a little thinner and let's you work both sides of the paper well. Using both sides of the paper let's you saturate the color a lot more and closes up some of the blotchiness that can happen. Best to All!
This geeza draws like he can do no wrong... Im not even really into Marvel & DC comic characters (I dont mind some Vertigo stuff though), but every time I look through some Adam Hughes on Deviant-Art I make exceptions on that statement every single time LOL. Definitely an inspirational artist for me.
Thanks loads for uploading these videos! AH! is a genius! I love watching him work and his delivery is cool too.. quite child-like really.. seems like a top bloke.
Great work Adam. Huge fan. New to Copics and markers. Want to get into portraits (not anime or Manga). Do you recommend their Sketch Figure 24 color set or is it better to get colors indivudally? Thanks
we had a many many copic markers at school but we were never taught to use then properly I think because the teachers themselves didn't know how to use them.
@TheDrawingLab this wasn't a colouring video. that wasn't the video title or description. Don't diregard his skill coz he didn't provide what you were looking for. you were just looking in the wrong place.
There's the work of art that he's creating, then there's the painting in the back that looks like what I would've done in high school. Just thought that was funny.
michaels craft store sells them for $8 each, but deserres art supply sells them for $4.50 reg price and $3 on sale. i just started using them 2 months ago..getting expensive lol
That looked really good. I'm not familiar with very many artists. Is the Catwoman book hanging above your station something you worked on or just something you happen to have there because you like it or both ? Thank you
+Fugly Nali Marker paper is very smooth and glossy this one has a texture, it's probably Strathmore 300 Drawing Paper since the 400 paper is slightly yellow in tone.
+V it most likely is one of the drawing papers. at a convention, he mentioned that for the most part he uses strathmore drawing paper because it works best with his copics (his preference of course)
He does use a very thin paper. I was at a show once and I was leaning over his portfolio and he said not to lean on the paper because it’s very thin and I would crush it!
bidhrohi12 One of the greatest is VERY debatable! If you're talking about his referenced work (ie: covers) I've seen simular done by 12 year olds. If you're talking about his non-referenced work than you're waaaaay off as he's good enough but not great. Have you ever seen his sequential art? It's SUCKS! If you want to learn from a good artist go with Neal Adams! *He's awesome!*
I am the same way with running into a corner and having to fix it. Anyone feel free to check out my art video. Also have about 20 new pieces I will be adding into a video featuring my colored sketches.
I loved it... until he took the black pen and messed up the ear area, what was with that? Looked like a child did that part, but the technique with the copics was beautiful.
*scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch*. Me: Ooh sounds llike that is going to be dark. *Looks at drawing and it is light and shaded nicely*. Me: ヽ(´o` Why can't I do that?!
I did not "find" these until almost 10 years later. Love his work.

Adam Hughes is the man. I love his drawing's
I had this dvd a decade ago and I’ve lost it. I’m happy these are available on TH-cam ❤
We're so glad you found them!
I love this guy. Skilled as well as insightful!
Damn he has some serious skill with those markers. Love his work...

He is so talented!! & I love Jerry's Art store in Princeton. I get Copics there
I’ve been into artists that use those copic markers on Instagram. Ordered the grey tone ones. The colored ones are not cheap.
So thats how he gets the gray tones.
Thanks for sharing

Great artist ! and a teacher.
This is so cool, and he's such a nice guy. Really great stuff!

Wow never met the guy but he seems like a genuine great guy!
My God....the skills of this man....
He is truly the God of markers.
Do you make any happy trees or clouds?
This was really helpful and insightful :) Thank you for posting this.
Amazing!

Thanks
He make this looks easy...that's when you know one is a pro :P
he does just bang out perfection with ease.
He sure is!
LOVE THIS CHANNEL
I liked it but I would have liked to know what colors you were using and to have it focused more on the project instead of far away. Not bad
Thank you for this video. Love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
What's the white pencil in 9:27 called?
we had a many many copic markers at school but we were never taught to use then properly I think because the teachers themselves didn't know how to use them.
excellent technique
Part time and into your browser uppuup
Is this on the Adam Hughes - Draw Good Girls DVD? or is it just the Mermaid?
;Great video lots of info and very inspiring :)
Artastic! Good stuff
hes awesome
I think it's comic book illustration, he said that himself, but he mixes a realisitc drawing style with the comic style. Hopes this helps
Anyone have a link to the completed image?
@TheDrawingLab this wasn't a colouring video. that wasn't the video title or description. Don't diregard his skill coz he didn't provide what you were looking for. you were just looking in the wrong place.
Anyone have the release date of the DVD?
Can you write the tools pens and makers he used?
Good, but I wanted to see more of him working and less shots of him talking! He looked like he could work and talk at the same time... :)
He's said in the past that he can't do both at the same time, plus you can always buy the DVD.
does anyone know where I can download this dvd?
@vashfan I thought the same thing
There's the work of art that he's creating, then there's the painting in the back that looks like what I would've done in high school. Just thought that was funny.

Sadly this guy does not have his own youtube channel, this is just a clip of him. To answer your question the catwoman piece is his.
That is the cover of his art book, “Cover Run”.
@spikeman316 Yes
average $4 - 8 a pop depending where you buy and what discount you get on them.
how much is a copic marker?
The paper seems very thin, is it Strathmore Drawing paper or some other type? It's clearly not bristol.
+V it's marker paper it's super thin and the markers dont bleed
+Fugly Nali Marker paper is very smooth and glossy this one has a texture, it's probably Strathmore 300 Drawing Paper since the 400 paper is slightly yellow in tone.

I find it funny that a person that's *NEVER* taken an art lesson is giving art lessons!
XD
Misterprickly Who are you referring to? Hughes? He's one of the greatest comic book artists ever.
bidhrohi12 yes I am and so what of it?
bidhrohi12 One of the greatest is VERY debatable!

+Misterprickly You're obviously a troll
David Bamatter Says a butt hurt fanboy.
Face facts; your god is FLAWED!
@vashfan sadness?, lol Adam hughes is soooo funny, wouldnt imagine him sad
I wish I could go to a convention and see him and buy everything he drew and take a photo with him and give him a kiss
i can sense a hint of sadness in his eyes
I am the same way with running into a corner and having to fix it. Anyone feel free to check out my art video. Also have about 20 new pieces I will be adding into a video featuring my colored sketches.
I hope your drawings have improved in 10 years. Good luck!
he looks a lil like john dimmagio (voice actor)
I loved it... until he took the black pen and messed up the ear area, what was with that? Looked like a child did that part, but the technique with the copics was beautiful.
9 dislakes???? ajajajaja!!! han de ser artistas frustrados! o envidiosos del verdadero talento!
Wait...someone this talented is meant to be a jerk. Why isn't he a jerk.
Makes it much harder to be jealous of his talent.
genius
his voice soothes me...
I always thought he sounded a bit hesitant. From what I heard he gets nervous when people watch him draw.
Never tried copics
not sadness...its the look of a professional....
ಠ_ಠ omg.
He's amazing...
Such a humble man. =) But also a bit of a nut. xD
*scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch*. Me: Ooh sounds llike that is going to be dark. *Looks at drawing and it is light and shaded nicely*. Me: ヽ(´o` Why can't I do that?!
I have a woodchuck that looks like him. So adorable it's a crime!
Those are originals. :)
Unbelievable
What?? Only 699 views? People are so lame out there.
Is it just me or does Adam Hughes sound a little like Marty Huggins?
That's not sadness in his eyes... probably just marker fumes :)
The original markers.
stop fading past the blending!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds sad... because he doesn't know what to do with all his money
Don't they pay for his con-sketches? If they don't, yeah that's pretty fucked, but if they do, well business is business.
excellent technique
