Tip for anyone who doesn’t like the uneven edges after you cut the plastic, put duct tape around it to cover it but to also avoid your turtle getting cut
Thanks for this Idea. I had just recently bought my 6-year-old a yellow belly slider because he is obsessed with turtles(started from an obsession with ninja turtles) and we had one of those little suction cup floating basking areas, but I was wanting to get him something bigger like one of those cool above tank ones like you have in the background of a lot of your videos, but those are a little pricey and we need to get him a bigger tank first but after seeing this video I went and made something similar to hold us until we upgrade the whole setup in a few weeks or so.
My basking area is a bit similar with the plastic box, but I made a separate floor from shaped plexi glass so it’s more sturdy on its own, and then I put pond lining with gravel on it… just as an extra tip for aesthetics and grip
Just got a turtle love your videos and have been binging them.for the last 2 days. Just wanted to.say u didn't waste a zip tie. If u ever need to undo them.there is a tab on the square end where the tie goes into itself if u wedge it with a knife u can undo a zip tie without damaging it
That's pretty cool, Sol! I like the diy idea. I wish I had thought of doing something like this before I bought one lol. I have one like the one you have for Hoku.
I like the idea of the shelving liner. I've been using the reptile felt from the pet store but the turtle claws shred it over time and it clogs my filter after a while.
Thanks 😊 for this video it was very informative Because I am getting a turtle 🐢🐢 in a few days it took me a year to convince my parents now they're finally letting me buy a pair and I have already subscribed to your channel 📝💝 I am new here and I love your videos 🤍🖤💗💙💛🧡❤️♥️💘🤎💜💚
I love the basket container. My turtle got too big for his rock filter so I got 3 big river rocks pile them up against the filter rock now he climb up and is stable.
I just saw this video you posted and I just got done building an egg crate basking area and it took 3 days and took you like 5 minutes I should have just built this
Hi turtle girl! Do you know if Gouramis can live with a pretty old Reeves turtle. I have a 75 gallon tank with 10 Gouramis and my Reeves is in a 50 gallon since hese only 6 inches but I can tell he wants more space so I was hoping to move him over to the 75 gallon tank.
I would use it other that because I have to get rid of his basking platform (I have the same one as you, the one for hoku) but if he has any walls on his basking platform, he’ll try to escape and end up flipping on his back causing his organs to move around and might cause health problems. He could also get stuck and scare him. I have tried everything I can think of to get him to stop on his basking platform right now. Turtles are a pain sometimes
@@TheTurtleGirl I think the issue is that when he tries to climb up the walls of the basking area, he falls down on his shell and it can cause health problems 🤔
@@TeamSukiyo actually the real issue is not when they flip over and twist their inside, but what if it flip and for some reason can't flip back. It does happen to me once in the past, my juvenile RES died because it can't flip back it's shell under the basking spot. My suggestion to the original post issue is if i remember correctly that above tank basking platform have a see-through part, right ?. How about you cover that part with some cloth / sticker / paint because usually turtle feel more secure in closed space.
I am planning on getting a turtle, I already have a 50 gallon tank and I am looking for a 7 inch turtle that isnt too expensive, do you have any suggestions?
If you don't like using knives, try using a hacksaw blade or a electric jigsaw. It would be safer and you can smooth the cuts with a bit of sand paper. And remember if you're using a knife, never cut towards your hands, fingers, heads, shoulders, knees and toes 😉✂️😁. Great idea by the way and thanks for sharing it with us. I think the best ideas are ones that are afforbadle and proper DIY. There's nothing better than making stuff for your animals.
Due to situation I just stated it made me think of lining metal floor with felt grass.. do you think that would be ok? I used the one that sat at the top of Hoku aquarium
Absolutely yes, you can make their enclosure with anything that can hold water (for aquatic species). It can be a mixing concrete, stock tub, IKEA clear container, etc. Turtle doesn't mind what their enclosure material is made from, all they want is big and comfortable home.
My female RES turtle is 5 inches, and my tank is a 75 gallon, with a zoo med desert UVB and heat lighting kit with a mini combo deep dome dual lamp fixture a 75 watts reptile basking spot lamp bulb and a 13 watt 5.0 UVB reptisun, an eheim professional 4+ canister filter. Can it be possible to put a baby RES or any type of turtle along with it. I used to have a smaller male turtle, who is a baby living alongside with mine and they got along just fine, until he died
the shelving liner mesh is for grip, not for a screen ;) If you have a screen cover on the tank, some wire cutters over that specific area where the ramp goes into the water can help!
Awesome vid and creation, but I can’t help but feel like one of the most important parts of this process would be demonstrating attaching it to an actual tank🤷🏻♂️
If the shelf liner gives you problems, if u have extra egg crate from previous aquarium projects or just wanna buy it, u can use it and put it on the ramp for grip. I plan to do that for my terrapins
Turtle girl you didn’t tell me about trimming my turtle nails unless I missed the video 🤦🏾♂️ she got caught in basking cage and ripped one of her nails off😔… will it grow back? Is she ok? Idk I feel bad.
You are so intelligent 🤓 Thank you for all of your ideas that you share. My turtles are now having a much healthier and happier lifestyle. 🐢
I'm really glad to hear that Patricia!
Tip for anyone who doesn’t like the uneven edges after you cut the plastic, put duct tape around it to cover it but to also avoid your turtle getting cut
ooh good tip! I guess you just want to make sure that the sticky part doesn't leak any chemicals into the water, to be safe
Thanks for this Idea. If you dont have a drill you can heat up a metal spike, of some sort, and poke holes through the plastic.

How would you attach to the tank? Suction cup?
Great job 👏
This seems like a great idea but sad part is that my turtle is big, he’s the size of both my hands together and slightly bigger ☹️‼️
What should I do?
Do the same thing with something bigger
My turtles are 10 and 11 inches.i got a 27 gallon tote and they both fit in at the same time.
yep, just use a bigger bin!
1st off I love ur profile pic we are all valed 2 use a bigger box

no, not if you fill the tank up just enough so your turtle can't climb out

maybe a future vid, thanks for the suggestion!

it's possible! but it depends on the personality of the turtle!
any tip on how do i hang it up in the aquarium?
Place it over the aquarium
Thats neat
right?
Noti gang 💪🏽
oh yeah!!
And how do you put it on the tank?
Can you do a leopard gecko habitat reaction video I think it would be cool and fun
great suggestion, thanks!
I miss you!!
aww well I'm back :)
Would the heat lamp affect the plastic? I wouldn’t want anything getting into his water.
not in my experience!
I would use it other that because I have to get rid of his basking platform (I have the same one as you, the one for hoku) but if he has any walls on his basking platform, he’ll try to escape and end up flipping on his back causing his organs to move around and might cause health problems. What about like a cone shaped or something inside the basking area, so the walls are shaped inwards instead of straight so he can’t get up them
or how about a lid for a basking area like this with a mesh covering so that the light can still get through but the turtle can't escape?
@@TheTurtleGirl I think the issue is that when he tries to climb up the walls of the basking area, he falls down on his shell and it can cause health problems 🤔

can i use something else instead shelving liner
Hi! I have a question as I'm new to taking care of turtle
Can I use a plastic bin as an alternative for a tank?
Absolutely yes, you can make their enclosure with anything that can hold water (for aquatic species). It can be a mixing concrete, stock tub, IKEA clear container, etc.
Turtle doesn't mind what their enclosure material is made from, all they want is big and comfortable home.

Can red eared turtle stay with Cichlid Fish? Whi light will be useful for turtle
Its possible. Basking lights are definitely necessary
