    Baryschnikov is by far the most beautiful dancer that has ever inhabited our planet. It's as universal laws of gravitation never apply to him. Or maybe he doesn't care about them when he's dancing.

      Eeww! He had to look good there at the White House, they might not have let him stay in the country.

    Still so many years later and Baryshnikov stays unsurpassed. A rear phenomenon!

    Misha's dancing makes me want to smile the whole time! He dances with such attitude and rythem! Some of them seem to run out of steam sometimes!

      They'd all look pretty silly hopping around without the music.

    Baryshnikov is outstanding. I appreciate compliments on his speed, ballon and articulation. Every movement is clean, crisp, full of life. I am sure Villella's Tarantella was a crowd-pleaser, despite the shortcomings discernible to the modern eye. In his time, many Americans fell in love with ballet while watching Villella dance, so I respect him for that.

    To me: Misha and Tsvirko. They are beautiful technically, yes, but I love their different interpretations. Misha is intense, as always. Tsvirko is wicked.😉

    Villella's is fresh and fun, but I just think that his upper body is sloppy sometimes, for example at 0:42

    It is nolo contendre for Baryshnikov. Also IMHO, the first dancer was sloppy and goofy.

    I like Villella's ballon but I don't like his lack of finish, he doesn't articulate clearly, sometimes it looks almost like he's marking... Clifford isn't much better either in this respect... Strange.

      ballet janie is difficult to articulate so much steps in time with music.Please observe that in these videos all dancers has a good musicality. So Vilella emphasizes the artistic aspect, he was a good interpreter and he has good technical skills for his time. The same thing can be said for John Clifford. We can't be all like Baryshnikov. We are different. Technical skills are important but is not all. There are dancers that in my opinion are very good such as Ilya Kuznetsov, Igor Tsvirko, Denis Rodkin, Lopatin

      vilella imo has not idea about control of upper body is here as always

    • @arepo
      @arepo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      APF Well, Baryshnikov can, but yes, very few dancers can articulate that clear even today, and none at this tempo. Villella is older than Baryshnikov by more than 10 years but Clifford is about the same age if I am not mistaken. I didn't say technique is everything, but technique is important in Balanchine ballets, particularly in the plotless ones where's more dancing than interpretation, Tarantella isn't Coppelia. I like Villella's interpretation here (though no more than others), and I appreciate his musicality, but I'm not crazy about his technique *here*, that's all. Was impressed with his technique and attack in Midsummer but not his line. I guess I can't have it all and he's not the whole package for me...

      pediatrapaola Yes, his upper body is poor here, he does next to nothing with it.

    • @pediatrapaola
      @pediatrapaola 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      not only here he dances only with legs but upper body is always out of control
