Dell R230 and R330 dont have bifurcation but R630, R730XD, R830 and R930 have bifurcation. Havent looked at my R430 and R530 yet. Ill update when I get to it. Update: Dell R430 and R530 both use same bios file. Newest BIOS for 2024 is 2.19, both do not have bifurcation either.
Very good instructions for those wanting to upgrade their 13th gen Dell server(s). Was the room air warmer than inside the server that the fan sped up when the server's cover was off?
They have an intrusion switch that lets them know when you take the cover off. They increase the airspeed since the path the air needs to go is compromised without the cover. Basically the cover is an air duct. Generally when you take the top off they will go to max fan speed.
I don't have any experience with the tower 7910 unfortunately. Only reason the rack version supports it is because the rack 7910 is just a rebadged R730. If you do not see a setting in your BIOS I would try doing a bios update and see what happens.
@@computersalesthanks. I've purchased two Today and forgot that "detail". They will arrive Saturday and will try. I see conflicting info around the web. Some places say it doesn't, other say it support "natively" or "automatically" and there is no settings on the BIOS. So I'm not sure :/
@@galvesribeiro I ran into the same issue with the rack 7910 till I started working with it and did the BIOS update. Hopefully that will be the case if they don't have it by default. You will have to manually configure the birfurcation in BIOS though if memory serves correct.
I just added the Dell 4 drive name pcie card to my T7910. Couldn't find anything in the bios. Plugged it in and it recognized all the drives automatically
Looks like that model doesn't support it. Weird considering Dell support indicates the T440 would support it. www.dell.com/community/PowerEdge-Hardware-General/Dell-Ultra-Speed-Drive-Quad-NVMe-M-2-PCIe-x16-Card-on-PowerEdge/td-p/7688707

Thanks. That is very helpful to know.
For anyone wondering, I updated my PowerEdge T330 from 2.4.3 to 2.20.0 and I still do not see the PCIe Bifurcation option in my BIOS.
@@benfrey dang that's a bummer. I wonder if it is an actual hardware limitation or they are just choosing not to add it to BIOS.

👍😄
I Can confirm with the latest BIOS update that the T630 DOES NOT have a burification menu option in BIOS :(
Ugh that is lame.
Thanks for the info! Does the bifurcation also work with the Dell Precision 7910 Workstation/Tower? Thanks!

@@markmaddox9303u dont need any setting. It just work with the tower 7910, no extra settings needed. It negotiate the PCIe lanes.
Maybe you can use two of those PCIe cards with 2 NVMe each, on 8 lanes? Might be still cheaper than a card w/ a switch chip builtin
Honestly the x16 riser I would need wouldn't cost too much if I was doing it the frugal way. The temptation to upgrade to an R730xd is too strong.
dell c6320 is support pcie bifurcation?
Not that I am aware of.
Des this mean that Dell's BOSS cards would work in 13th Gen servers then?
Probably but not sure. Do you know the DP/N?
still not got bifurcation on t430 on newest bios 🤣
