I was in the chorus of a show Elaine did years ago and spoke with her briefly a couple of times (she was exactly who I hoped she would be). A few years later, I literally bumped into her on 9th Avenue with my very large gym bag. I'm not sure if she remembered me or not, but she looked at me, then down at my bag and growled, "off to the gym?" To which I responded "yes, and then to a fitting." She howled with laughter, clearly loving that I had picked up on her reference to her signature song. It was just a silly, momentary exchange, but I'll treasure it forever. There will never be anyone else like her.
I saw her do this 2x onstage. She was electric. And it wasn't just because she was "Stritch" and people were going to see her - it was because she really brought the language of Albee to life.
Good analogy, Renan. Although I know little of Frances McDormand, other than having seen her in the film 'Fargo' and that she is one of those deranged Hollyweird left-wingers married to one of the Coen brothers film directors. But both Lucy and Joan Rivers were more down-to-earth and Republicans. I'd say Elaine Stritch had a bit of Bette Davis in her too, feisty, but with a heart.
Well, after all, Elaine Stritch's first cousin (once removed), Samul Alphonsius Stritch, was a Roman Catholic cardinal (1946-58) of the Chicago archdiocese.
Have you ever had this feeling about someone famous that if you had a chance to meet her or him face to face, and had a chance to talk then you would definitely become friends? I always had this about Elaine. And I also know that I’m not alone in such feeling and so many people were intimidated by her but more so fascinated by her and thrilled with her. She was the force of nature, and we were blessed to have her!♥️👏🏼 Can’t believe it’ll be 10 years this July😔
+Rusty Phresh Since she's talking about faith and death (of her husband, at least), I think the line might be: "So here's to the girls on the go--everybody tries. Look into their eyes and you'll see what they know: everybody dies."
Brian Eduardo You should believe things based on credible reasons, not emotional ones. Just because she was wise does not mean she is wise in every area
There are very credible reasons for a belief in God and espousing that belief is perfectly legitimate... it does not make one presumptuous. Just are you are entitled to espouse your non-belief and be respected for that. This woman lived a lot, lost her young husband after 10 years of marriage, battled addiction and shone thru - she credits God with helping her thru and that is perfectly fine. She should not be denigrated for that, any more that I would feel anyone should denigrate you. So live a great life be happy and someday we will all know the big secret (or maybe not!) Take care and warm greetings.

Yes, from your quip about a fitting, she knew you were a fan. I would love to have had a few Tanqueray martinins with her.
@August Canaille one of the few
That’s damn amazing! ❤️
She did not write “Ladies Who Lunch”. In Hollywood someone can take rights to a song if you don’t have enough money to protect the song you wrote.
Beautiful. Elaine would grin too , I believe she is grinning. How beautiful a memory to help keep Elaine’s sense of humor well remembered.
I love the way she uses people's names... when she speaks to them... real connection
It is. When my brother once spoke my name to me in the midst of a conversation (it only happened once in 50 years) I was struck by the same fact.

Elaine lived the first half of Albees tragedy and loved herself enough to feel she had the right to get better.
Thanks for the laughter! A life well-lived. Rest in peace. Elaine.
I will miss her forever. There was something so comforting about her. No one could tell a story like Elaine Stritch.
I watch this almost daily to restore my faith in many things
What a Woman ,Honest , forthright , full of heart, and mostly living each moment to the fullest !
STILL MISS HER WITH CAPITAL LETTERS! WE COULD NEVER GET ENOUGH OF ELAINE!
I love that the interview starts with Elaine protecting the crew and directing traffic. How perfect 🤣
RIP to a magnificent woman
Elaine was like Lucille Ball, Joan Rivers and Frances McDormand in one person!
Brilliant!

It’s so refreshing to hear a celebrity talk about her religious faith and her belief in God.

@@gymnastix Well, that explains it. Thanks for sharing!
i can't believe how impacted i was by this interview...... she may have given me the strength to get sober after all this time.
Elaine Stritch "At Liberty" was one of my favorite Broadway shows, ever. The lady was funny and had amazing legs!
Thank you so much for sharing this

I wish I had met her. God bless her. And I know he must
have - she wouldn't have lasted 88 years on this planet if he hadn't.
There’s nothing I can add. It’s all in the video. Thank you Ms. Stritch❤️
She’s a combination of Lucille Ball and my grandmother. A curmudgeonly, tough exterior with a big heart underneath.
pam0626 Bit more like Bea Arthur than Lucy tbh
You forgot her intelligence.
She was so funny. Real talent. Miss her daily.
You have real talent Elaine !
God I love her. God loves her too. So much talent, and spirit.
Elaine was a Doll.
Wonderful Woman. RIP
love her
What a lovely lady
❤❤❤❤❤
Rip 🪦 Elaine Stritch
R.I.P.
"People are scared to death of people that are really talented"
Any chance you might upload the video of her profile that aired this morning? Missed it :(
And, Baby that why I loved you.
(Show Boat) 💙🙏🌼
Wasn't Elaine on the Cosby show. The teacher. I would of loved her as my teacher
Does anyone know what line from "The Ladies Who Lunch" Ms. Stritch was referring to?

+Bernard Cleary Thanks!
She did not write “Ladies Who Lunch”
@@Zzzzz-q9s Um, nobody said that.
"That something greater than me is GOD!" Amen Jesus is GOd in the flesh, I hope Elaine had an encounter with the living God.
This interviewer trying not to cry 🥲
Bullshit, pretending to yourself there is a god for comfort is just self-deception
Not necessarily, this was one wise lady....but you are entitled to your view

Brian Eduardo Appealing to emotion is not a credible reason for claiming something is factually true. Feelings are not facts
Brian Eduardo I agree! Having been fortunate enough to see Miss Stritch perform in person had an other worldy quality.
