I like the juxtaposition that Colleen never like any of the women Jack dated or married, but she was always okay with Liz, the only female friend of Jack :)
i liked that also, the fact that she approved of Liz the moment they met, says a lot.
She sees Liz as a peer.
She is not acceptance of kindness or weak. And Liz is neither of those.

Missed one of my favorites, even though it's in one of the scenes featured, specifically in the hospital room. Colleen said something like "Can you believe this is the best room they have? This is supposed to be a *hospital*, not a Japanese internment camp I volunteered at. During the war."
They left out some of her most horrifying and hilarious lines. My favorite is when she yells to Jack on his way into the ER “I love you… but not in a queer way!”
She won’t talk to the doorman at Jack’s building because “he has a beard, and she’d rather not get raped today.” Absolute lol.

So I think the joke is just how similar Jack and his mom really are, that they both pinpointed that same aspect of Liz that they both appreciate.

I loved Elaine Stritch's broadway-style influenced voice quality, so smooth like she just finished the last sip of her gin and tonic before putting her cigarette out in an ornate ashtray. Truly a one of a kind that is sorely missed,,,,

Elaine auditioned for "Dorothy" in The Golden Girls". She tells a funny story how she blew the audition. I'm so happy she got a role just as good on an extremely popular show. 😊

@@adelebz7 Oh she is, I loved her in Interiors too (the Woody Allen film). I've just been binge watching episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm with Tracey Ullman-- another astonishing talent. She's so good in the show. Perfect casting choice. Good comedy in our era is so thin on the ground, both 30 Rock and Curb are head and shoulders above the rest. :)

A master class from a master cast. Her and Alec Baldwin look like they are having the MOST fun. I can’t think of any other actor who could have brought Colleen Donanghy to life. Amazing work. Their time at the piano singing the Christmas Song, you could tell Baldwin was having a hard time keeping it together.

This show got me through grad school, ‘07-‘09, and was in its prime. Elaine Stritch as Colleen was the perfect casting for Jack’s mother given who he is. 👍🏼
