Thats a great laptop! Yes you are spot on with open box. They still come with warranties and return policies if you buy from a reputable seller or manufacturer
The best cheap laptop for students has to be a used Thinkpad or the other business laptops from HP, Dell the return on investment is much better because of the build quality and ports.

For anyone looking for a *truly* budget laptop that isn't worthless, Microcenter routinely sells the IdeaPad 3 14" with i3 11th Gen 1115G4, 8GB DDR4-2666 RAM; 256GB SSD, FHD display for $199.00 US. You cannot find better specs (in a *new* laptop) for less money. As of this writing, it's selling for $249, but again, frequently goes on sale. (They are selling this laptop with 128GB SSD for $199 at the moment.) This is a great everyday laptop (a full Win 11 laptop for Chromebook money) that will easily do what *most* people routinely use a laptop for. It's also up-gradable.
@@justhasan8423 - I would think it should do that easily, BUT...I haven't really programmed anything in decades, so I hope someone else will chime in with more experience. When my budget was limited in 2015, I had purchased an HP Pavilion and I returned it the next day and got a Dell Inspiron 13 2 in 1. I used this for 3 years and it was a good laptop.
same, I would either recommend Lenovo or Dell. I got an HP Pavilion DV6 way back in 2011 when Windows 7 was around, i didn't like it due to its slow and laggy performace as it overheats even if i run small apps, replaced it in 2014 when I got a Dell Inspiron 5537 with Windows 8 (or 8.1 i'm not sure which Windows 8 it was, later updated it to Windows 10 in 2015), and the Inspiron 5537 was far better in terms of speed and performance and even had better build quality compared to the Pavilion DV6 that I had, the Inspiron is such a powerful laptop lasted me for 7~8 years during my university days until I replaced it with my Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 in 2021. the Flex 5 is also another great laptop, never faced any issues with it since Day 1. Crazy enough I still have my Dell Inspiron 5537 and still works after 10 years, despite now it's getting very slow and laggy due to the PC's age (4th gen intel core i7 cpu), which is why I upgrade it to the flex 5.
I've always bought HP (due to quality materials used in construction, perceived quality to touch/use, and absolutely incredible reliability and problem-free longevity - which I've had with every HP unit I've owned). But, when I replace my current laptop, I would definitely look at Lenovo's offerings too. Dell, I would not consider. Everyone I know who uses Dell seems to have issues around either the build-quality of their device and/or some performance problem related to the laptop's hardware. Just about every TH-cam review of any Dell product seems to reflect this too.
@@BackSlashJvb125 I agree, my 2020 HP Pavillion 14 model had the hinges broken after regular use. I didn't even use the 2 in 1 feature once which was a shocker. I ended up going with the 14" Inspirion i7 model with 16 gb of ram and 1 TB SSD for only $460 which was a steal of a deal. Decent performance, average battery life (7-8 hours), and the fan noise was acceptable (turned on and off occasionally during light work load and was decently quiet for a windows laptop on load)
Almost all of our Dell Laptops in our company - even the expensive Latitudes - have problems. This ranges from software incompatibility to trackpad, screen, etc. problems.
I'm casting my vote for the Dell simply because I have an Inspiron work laptop and it's been very reliable. My only complaint is the speakers, I have to use external speakers to hear others clearly in a Teams meeting.
I'd love to see a review for the asus zenbook 14X. I'm a computer science student and looking for a new laptop and 14X sounds like the perfect laptop to me. So I'd appreciate it if you made a video talking about it if it's good and doesnt has any major caveats. Also, do compare it to the M1 Air. It's in the same price bracket so it'd be good to see those 2 compared.
Thnks need these type of videos as everybody just talks about premium laptops, Nobody thinks of countries like india where it is difficult for a college student to spend so much.
Yep. A 2021 Aspire is my budget laptop. It has hdmi, and it is good enough to play 4K video on a 75-inch tv. I have installed Win11, doubled the ram to 16, and added a 2Gb Samsung 980 M2.
In my country (Türkiye), products with tn panel, very bad speakers, very low chassis and plastic quality are still sold as a budget-friendly laptop, and students who buy new computers always have to buy these products. I always seen this laptos in public librarys .Example models: Lenovo v14-v15 - ideapad 1 - ideapad s145, hp 15-15s, acer aspire 3. When I see the Lenovo ideapad 3 model, I say "it has a very good quality case" Net minimum wage in Turkey is $400 and %50 percent of all workers , work in this price.
Please advise, what is the best value for money lightweight windows laptop? Yoga 9i is cool but 1.4 kilos is heavy, my wife would trade any features for weight 1.2 kg or even better 1kg. I saw there are carbon or titanium laptops feom lenovo but got confused with their pricing, naming etc. Any thoughts? Thank you, amazing work, Josh
I got the Yoga 7i for 549 and the Yoga 6 was available for 499 at best buy. I think these are outstanding laptops for the price. I don’t think these laptops are worth it for the price. The Yoga 7i I got is an outstanding deal, amazing keyboard, good speakers, decent screen, good battery life and amazingly build quality, it’s also 360. The only downside is a U series processor. But it’s more than good enough for most students who are mostly using office or browsing the web.
Hi Josh, not expecting you to reply but it would be really helpful if you did. I'm from the UK and I'm looking to buy a laptop for under £700 however in the UK we have heavy VAT on electronics so everything is a lot more expensive than the US and also a lot of the Laptops have different models in Europe than in North America so I can't get any of the laptops you recommend such as the Asus Zenbook 14X because it comes standard with i9 13th gen and is over £1200. I'm looking into a refurbished M1 Macbook Air from 2020 for about £630 pounds for 256GB and £770 for 512GB. However I am concerned if it will be powerful enough and will last long enough. I have a gaming windows desktop at home with 16GB of ram and AMD Ryzen 5 3600 which can run games fine and I've never felt it slowing down. I will be using the Mac for school work while I'm not at home in UK's equivalent of 11th and 12th Grade doing the equivalent of AP Computer Science and also working on an online business when not at home. What do you suggest?

My flex5i was beautiful and lasted me about 5-6years….. finally died this morning and the screen isn’t connected to the hinges anymore. Seems like a common issue but I’m here now looking for other options and laughing because I might reorder it again
while taking about budget laptop Dell insperion 14 2 in 1 is around 1,02,789 Indian Rupee ~($1,245.20) there is also another chonker of a laptop by dell, Dell G15(i7-12700H RTX 3060) Gaming laptop which comes at around 1,15,989.99 Indian Rupee ~($1405.12) and considering it comes with a 3060 and a number of extra ports it would make for a better alternative considering we are already spending over 1,00,000 INR on a laptop might as well go for a better GPU for little extra cost. the battery on G15 could have been better tho. would love if you could make a video on G15. Edit: There is also a lower spec G15 (i5-12500H RTX 3050) which comes at around 74,589 Indian Rupees ~($903.58)
Has HP fixed their hinge defects? The only reason im looking for a laptop is because the hinge literally exploded when I opened up my laptop. I would not go HP for that alone. I am out of warranty soo my money went down the drain for a problem that HP has actually known is an issue for a while now :(
Honestly if people can stretch their budget just a little bit further than these they can find significantly better laptops in every way on sale. The ASUS 14X OLED has a much better screen than these with a good trackpad and keyboard with an H series processor for $750 on sale regularly. There is also the M1 MBA regularly on sale for $750 that is superior to these in every way and has insane battery life and all the basics right.
Am I the only one who thought the microphone from the Dell was better and not worse? it just needs noise reduction (should be default on every decent meeting app) and it's better
The displays are instantly a red flag imo The thing is, it's still possible to get 100%srgb screens at this price Like technically it's on sale right now but the asus Zenbook 14 has 2.8k oled screen for around 500usd Since these laptops don't really have good build quality, performance or any other gimmicks/features. The screen is the only that matters IMO. To be fair tho, the ones in the videos are touchscreen 2in1s so there should probably be a bit of leeway here, but I would recommend the envy x360 that's a bit expensiver to anyone who needs a 2in1 Edit: the Zenbook 14X for 700-800usd supposedly has 2.8k oled that's 120hz, but I can't confirm whether that's the base model
I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the IdeaPads. Surprisingly good build quality, keyboards, trackpads, and decent (but not great) screens, for very competitive prices.
Can you do a dedicated video for Asus Zenbook 14x which u mentioned in previous video? It would be a huge help as there are no other videos about that specific variant
hello am currently between inspiron and the idealpad, its for video editing and work but am currently entry lvl so its fine. witch one would you say better for the long haul and perfomance, ive got monitor for the color gamut.
You actually hit the nail on the head with your comment. Not much has changed so I haven't rushed to review it. But its a worthy comment and I'll try to get one in. My gut is for a developer it would struggle against the Zenbook 14X with its larger display and powerful well cooled processor
Right now, in the USA I don't love them. Particularly the Yoga 7. Its screen isn't the brightest for where its positioned. The main reason though is because in the USA their pricing are similar to the Asus Zenbook 14 and 14X. And those laptops are just much better on many dimensions, unless you wanted the 2 in 1 feature of Yoga 7 and 6.
@@JustJoshTech oh i don't live in the US. Yes I'm a student so I'm specifically looking for a 2in1. Would you recommend Asus for convertibles? Also when will you review Asus zenbook s13 ? Thankyou for replying.
@@JustJoshTechIn Italy I can get the Yoga 7 with an Oled 400 nit 2.8k 90hz display for one thousand euros, it seems to be basically the display in the Yoga 9i (which is priced at 1400 euros). Could in this case the yoga 7 be a better deal?
Review is pretty off since these laptops are outdated on the budget spectrum except for lenovo. Should have made the review base on the latest dell inspiron and hp pavillion series alongside the lenovo series. Inspiron 15 and hp pavillion 15 has seen some serious improvements.
oh hey i have a 5i pro non-flex, but an older one with a i5-11357G7 or whatever the fuck. the keybord is great, runs fedora 38 really well, and i got the uprgaded screen that is 400 nits and 100% srgb coverag and 90hz.. the battery life is around 4.5 hours in heavish loads, could be longer but fedoras stuck at 90hz sadly :(
If you want a "better" budget laptop for a regular user, I would suggest the HP... but if you are more than a regular, 100% lenovo... better quality for typing, trackpad and build quality in general.
ive heard the ideapad has a critical hinge break issue though, from what I've seen online the laptop only lasts around 3 months until the hinge breaks and its not covered even with warranty
Hey Josh! Amazing video as always and love from India! Been a long time subscriber of you and never regretted it! Your content is what I look forward to everyday! Quick question, after seeing your last video on the best laptops for various categories, I'm now confused between your best pick of Asus Zenbook 14X and Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E14 Gen 5(the latest one). I chose to include Lenovo only because I've heard that the Thinkpad series generally have exceptionally amazing keyboard and I am someone who loves to type and type, so thought to include it. Which one would you suggest I go with if I really want that laptop to last me for years and not regret my choice. I hope you'd do a video on the Asus Zenbook 14X in your style explaining everything, as you always do! Cheers mate!
Let me explain this one as its a good question. This channel is not a laptop review channel. It's a find "the best laptop" for different types of users one. We have actually had a couple of laptops from Acer in. They do appear in several comparison videos. However, they just haven't really been as good as competitors, so they haven't got much air time. This does not mean they are all bad. We actually have some good ones here that will appear in upcoming videos
The cellular network connection in my phone seem to be very strong when my phone screen is locked even when I am not using the phone, if I tap the screen I will see about 10mb/s reading but once I open my phone, it will drop to 12kb/s. Please can you help to explain this hypothetical phenomenal
I’ve been tossing up between two of the best deals I could find for the M1 Air 16GB RAM / 512 SSD($1694AUD) and the Asus Zenbook 14x ($2099AUD). These were the absolute best deals I could find for these just wondering which would be the best value between the two options.
Remember, with the MacBook Air (MBA) it is very important to see what the configuration is. Also, if I may advocate, look at the Apple Refurbished offerings - but I am not sure if they offer that 'down-under'. I am in Canada and our dollar values are about the same. The Asus Zenbook is a great laptop and might be offered at steeper discounts now that the 'back to school' time is here. Remember that your laptop choice should, if budget allows, have 16Gb of memory and at least 512Gb of storage to last you a while.
@@JustJoshTech when you review and tell about a computer. One of the things you say is, as I understand it, the computers have good price tag's. I would love if the deals could be from a place that has more countries.
@philip9485 I understand. I would like that too. Right now we are a small company. This is good feedback and a good idea. I will look to have someone scan deals world wide. This won't be something we can do tomorrow or likely this year. But in the future yes

All the things I interact with are better: display, audio, keyboard, trackpad, biometrics, weight. Now when I shop under $1000 I'll be looking for higher end left over or open box laptops.
Thats a great laptop! Yes you are spot on with open box. They still come with warranties and return policies if you buy from a reputable seller or manufacturer
8:25 the MacBook Air 13 should only have 52wh of battery, not 70
The best cheap laptop for students has to be a used Thinkpad or the other business laptops from HP, Dell the return on investment is much better because of the build quality and ports.
No it's a used Macbook Air M1. Twice as powerful as these and will last longer than the new ones. Has Airdrop for sharing docs with other students and between yours and their iPhones.
@@Äpple-pie-5k Its useless unless everyone uses the Apple system bud. I wouldn't be here if I had chosen a Dell xps 15 over the M1 MAC. Its absolutely useless for school as the app are so limited
@@Äpple-pie-5k Really bad idea. Do not get a MacBook if you're a student or not ready to spend money on apps and stuff.
@@gigacatkun Save $200 on what you would've got and get a used MBA M1. Use $50 of it on apps. So far you're ahead 150. OMG your battery didn't die in the library studying for midterms and you got an A instead of a C. Who knows what that was worth but probably more than the entire cost of the laptop. This is before we talk about the shame, frustration, and opposite sex shunning that comes from pulling your hair out on unexpected problems with Windows and Linux.
It's not a win/win. It's a win/win/win/win. Macbook Air. College Student. No more to say.
you should do the hp envy, yoga 7, and whatever the dell equivalent is too
For anyone looking for a *truly* budget laptop that isn't worthless, Microcenter routinely sells the IdeaPad 3 14" with i3 11th Gen 1115G4, 8GB DDR4-2666 RAM; 256GB SSD, FHD display for $199.00 US.
That's a great deal! I wish I had a microcenter around me.
do you think it would be able to handle programming for a computer science degree?
@@justhasan8423 - I would think it should do that easily, BUT...I haven't really programmed anything in decades, so I hope someone else will chime in with more experience. I can tell you that the RAM, SSD and I think even the wi-fi card is upgradable, so if you need more ram later, you can put it in.
Crazy enough I still have my Dell Inspiron 5537 and still works after 10 years, despite now it's getting very slow and laggy due to the PC's age (4th gen intel core i7 cpu), which is why I upgrade it to the flex 5.
thank you soooo much for those really researched and non AI videos - buying a cheap laptop for mu mom and you helped me save hours of work
Dell has been known for QC issues. but mine works fine (xps 15 2020 model) and my vote goes to the dell!
Just about every TH-cam review of any Dell product seems to reflect this too.
hp laptops are garbo, hp is garbo in general
hp is shit and their customer service is horrible
@@BackSlashJvb125 I agree, my 2020 HP Pavillion 14 model had the hinges broken after regular use. I didn't even use the 2 in 1 feature once which was a shocker. I ended up going with the 14" Inspirion i7 model with 16 gb of ram and 1 TB SSD for only $460 which was a steal of a deal. Decent performance, average battery life (7-8 hours), and the fan noise was acceptable (turned on and off occasionally during light work load and was decently quiet for a windows laptop on load)
Your usual through and easy to follow review(s). Appreciate it.
Almost all of our Dell Laptops in our company - even the expensive Latitudes - have problems. This ranges from software incompatibility to trackpad, screen, etc. problems.
Guess which hinge will break first among these brands?
I'm casting my vote for the Dell simply because I have an Inspiron work laptop and it's been very reliable. My only complaint is the speakers, I have to use external speakers to hear others clearly in a Teams meeting.
your company is going to go bankrupt if they're giving you inspirons
I'd love to see a review for the asus zenbook 14X. I'm a computer science student and looking for a new laptop and 14X sounds like the perfect laptop to me. So I'd appreciate it if you made a video talking about it if it's good and doesnt has any major caveats.
Also, do compare it to the M1 Air. It's in the same price bracket so it'd be good to see those 2 compared.

Excited to see your asus zenbook review this week! To see if it is a great value laptop.
Thnks need these type of videos as everybody just talks about premium laptops, Nobody thinks of countries like india where it is difficult for a college student to spend so much.
That is exactly why I made it

It's difficult to sink thousands on a laptop in every country. People who do either have rich parents or are willing to go into debt.
Would you suggest Lenovo Slim Pro 9i or the new (7840hs) version of the Slim pro 7 for an engineering student?
Acer makes the best budget laptops by far. I repaired both Lenovo and Acer and I can tell Acer build quality and repairability is very good.
Yep. A 2021 Aspire is my budget laptop. It has hdmi, and it is good enough to play 4K video on a 75-inch tv. I have installed Win11, doubled the ram to 16, and added a 2Gb Samsung 980 M2.
@@Van-zf9iwwhich acer do you recommend?
In my country (Türkiye), products with tn panel, very bad speakers, very low chassis and plastic quality are still sold as a budget-friendly laptop, and students who buy new computers always have to buy these products. I always seen this laptos in public librarys .Example models: Lenovo v14-v15 - ideapad 1 - ideapad s145, hp 15-15s, acer aspire 3. When I see the Lenovo ideapad 3 model, I say "it has a very good quality case" Net minimum wage in Turkey is $400 and %50 percent of all workers , work in this price.
Highly recomment to consider older Latitudes and Thinkpads.
Josh & team, did you have a look at Lenovo yoga pro 7i as well? Seems like a neat combo for a overall
can you make a video on 16inch laptops for students with futuristic features at affordable price.
Also if you could wait for a good discount on Asus Zenbook 14x i5 .. it's a good buy , I got mine at 500

Whats the movies name on the ideapad flex 5i 2:04
Has HP fixed their hinge defects? The only reason im looking for a laptop is because the hinge literally exploded when I opened up my laptop. I would not go HP for that alone. I am out of warranty soo my money went down the drain for a problem that HP has actually known is an issue for a while now :(
What do you think about the Laptop ASUS Vivobook 15X OLED M1503QA .Is it good for a student?
Awesome comparison!
Please Do a review on the HP Elitebook 840 g8 and g7
Honestly if people can stretch their budget just a little bit further than these they can find significantly better laptops in every way on sale. The ASUS 14X OLED has a much better screen than these with a good trackpad and keyboard with an H series processor for $750 on sale regularly. There is also the M1 MBA regularly on sale for $750 that is superior to these in every way and has insane battery life and all the basics right.
Josh with another banger
Hey Emary, I wanted to just send you a little comment to say thanks for all your support
Am I the only one who thought the microphone from the Dell was better and not worse? it just needs noise reduction (should be default on every decent meeting app) and it's better
The displays are instantly a red flag imo
The thing is, it's still possible to get 100%srgb screens at this price
Like technically it's on sale right now but the asus Zenbook 14 has 2.8k oled screen for around 500usd
Since these laptops don't really have good build quality, performance or any other gimmicks/features.
The screen is the only that matters IMO.
To be fair tho, the ones in the videos are touchscreen 2in1s so there should probably be a bit of leeway here, but I would recommend the envy x360 that's a bit expensiver to anyone who needs a 2in1
Edit: the Zenbook 14X for 700-800usd supposedly has 2.8k oled that's 120hz, but I can't confirm whether that's the base model
I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the IdeaPads. Surprisingly good build quality, keyboards, trackpads, and decent (but not great) screens, for very competitive prices.
Hello Josh, I love your videos and in depth reviews, is it possible to review the Huawei laptop line?. Thanks for your work and effort!😊

As a developer I'm surprised that you haven't reviewed the latest gen Lenovo t14 laptops. The t series used to be developers go to laptops
You actually hit the nail on the head with your comment. Not much has changed so I haven't rushed to review it. But its a worthy comment and I'll try to get one in. My gut is for a developer it would struggle against the Zenbook 14X with its larger display and powerful well cooled processor
Only benefit of 14 I see is upgradeable memory
Please review the Lenovo yoga 7 both intel and AMD versions and also yoga 6 2023 versions

Is asus vivobook pro 15 a good choice?
Very helpful thank you
Please include laptop such as hp pavillion plus,hp aero, lenovo ideapad 5i pro in your next video
Great vid Thank you
Acer didn't make the cut, I noticed.
Thanks for your advice, really useful I mean this video.
Seeing the pavillion and previous experince with hp, do not buy a pavillion at all, buy a thinkpad t480, or a dell xps 9370
Sad that screens are so bad at low budgets. Very helpful video though
Why he did not compare it with ryzen processor?
I'd get a thinkpad t480 and run Debian or Fedora linux on it
Please review Lenovo V14 G3 IAP
Hi, Josh . Why you never recommended acer ? Most of your videos doesn't cover any laptop from Acer. You don't like Acer or you think it's not good?
Let me explain this one as its a good question. This channel is not a laptop review channel. It's a find "the best laptop" for different types of users one. We have actually had a couple of laptops from Acer in. They do appear in several comparison videos. However, they just haven't really been as good as competitors, so they haven't got much air time. This does not mean they are all bad. We actually have some good ones here that will appear in upcoming videos
No gaming benchmarks? That's super lame dude
Nice review. Who's here from discord?
My vote will be for HP or Lenovo, but not into budget line laptops. Will not touch a Dell. Great video as always.
Thanks mate

Do you ever include Asus, or is it not a quality product?
Asus are in many of my videos. They are currently one of my favorite manufacturers. I personally bought their Zenbook 14x. I also like the G14
