I also have 4c hair and went back to using grease. Like Blue Magic hair grease and it works wonders. I spent so much money on natural hair products and led to believe that grease was bad and clogged pores, etc. Ever since I went natural my hair be DRY and my scalp. Quick tip, Sis: When applying the Pink Lotion, only use a dime size. I know it sounds crazy. I have your texture, just thicker and kinkier. I use it for my twist outs. On 4c hair, if it's oil- based, less is more. Will take longer to dry and will not set firmly. If its water based, depending on the style, more will give the hair softness but definition. *The hair "sets" because the water evaporates from the hair strand. Keep in mind, if the hair is low porosity, more water-based product will take longer to dry. On 4c hair, the goal is to lock in the moisture as it sets. So then, you want to use the product on damp or dry hair, rarely on completely wet hair. Will take long to dry, flake and leave a sticky film if hair is completely wet. Remember, less is more. Hope this helps. 👍

If your hair is prone to breakage consider doing more deep conditions. If you don't have a bonnet dryer you can put your hair in twists put a plastic cap or bag over your hair, heat up a wet towel and lay it over the bag. You can keep reheating the towel for heat, but essentially do this for 30 minutes. Also find products that work for your hair.

I’ve been fooled by moisturizing products thinking that my hair is well moisturized on wash day only for my hair to be DRY two days later. That’s the ultimate test if a product can keep my hair moisturized for a week without me wetting my hair. I have low porosity hair so my hair can lock in moisture well, the issue is getting the moisture in. When it comes to deep conditioning or leave in products put on a plastic bag/cap for 15-20 min to use your head’s natural heat to help with absorption.

    • @DeeDee-lr8nb

Dee Dee I love using the Shea moisture manuka honey deep conditioner on my hair with heat. But as for leave ins I can’t recommend anything right now because leave ins that used to work well on me don’t anymore so I’m trying to find something new. I do like to use olive oil though as my last product. I also like to put on a plastic cap after I put on my leave ins so that I can use my body heat to make sure everything gets absorbed.

    • @chaniecevaughns7066
      @chaniecevaughns7066 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Everything you said was facts! I’ll add to your comment by reminding low porosity naturals that using warm water (literally, as warm/hot as you can stand it) on wash day is key as well. I stand under warm water for a good minute before applying shampoo to allow time for my cuticle to open. Once the cuticle is open, then water can get in and all these moisturizing products we use can be effective.

I’ve discovered that leave-in conditioner works wonders for my naturally dry, low porosity, type 4 hair. You might want to try deep conditioning every wash day to help improve moisture retention. My personal favorite is the the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Hair Masque. I apply it to my hair after I wash and condition it, then put on a plastic cap for about an hour. 4c hair girl here.... when i did attempt the L.O.C./ L.C.O method, I used Cantu leave in conditioner to fill in wherever it could & i would seal with an oil. Shrinkage is the devil & I rebuke it in all forms lol. Cantu root rinse and root relief are amazing for the scalp. The leave in conditioner and coconut curling creams are good for twists/knots/braids. The "dry deny moisture seal gel oil" keeps my hair from shrinking/drying up while I'm doing it. If you haven't tried Cantu products, I highly recommend them.

I have 4C low porosity hair as well and the one thing that has helped me retain length is to use fresh aloe vera as a pre-poo the night before. I had the same issue with my crown. I do 5 sections now, the crown I show more love and use thicker buttercreme for it so it can stay moisturized. I stopped using Shea Moisture due to my sensitivity to coconut oil. Wow just looked at Pink Lotion ingredients and it had parabens, mineral oil, and beeswax. It's great at moisturizing the first day but then the build up and harsh chemical is drying, in the long run just doesn't work for my hair. When shea moisture comes out with a non coconut oil product for high porosity hair then I may go back to them.

Danielle, I think you would try to stick to 100% natural products, natural shampoos like clay or black soap. And natural greases like coconut oil, Shae butter. All organic with no weird ingredients in them. You don't need so much products. Actually. 1 or 2 products can work better than 3 or 4 creams. I noticed that they are so much ingredients. For example I buy coconut oil but they are at least 8 ingredients in that, it makes no sense. Since I started using pure, simple product. It has made wonders

Shai May those 100% naturals things are what’s causing people’s dry hair. Using those heavy oils on top of not shampooing properly by using clays, will cause dehydrated hair. Hair can’t absorb water if it’s coated in hydrophobic oils. It’s less apparent in less coarse/higher porosity hair, but on low porosity/coarse hair that has more layers of cuticle, which already wont absorb water supper fast, those things make it even harder to get water in

    • @lupe2947

kapparhotau181 it’s definitely true. And if you have hard water, it’ll leave deposits on your hair and further cause dryness. Clays also leave a film on the hair which causes dryness over time

My hair is recovering from breakage as well. It's not in just one section though (I wish). It's random broken pieces all over. It happened when I was taking down faux locs. They were beautiful, but I'll never get them again.

I heard it helps with low porosity hair if you put a plastic cap on after your leave-in to help it seep in and it also helps the cream/styled work better. I have medium to high porosity hair and haven’t tried this yet but those who have seemed to get great results😊

I've been watching your videos and literally saying "she's going to experience breakage in her parted areas!" I use to suffer from this but I've learned that parting my hair with a comb and switching up how I part my hair has been key.

A tip that I picked up from watching other natural type 4 TH-camrs and trying it myself is applying your leave-in in the shower so that the steam can help it penetrate into your strands or using warm water if you do it outside of the shower and put on a cap to trap that heat in while you prepare to go on to the next step this helps me a lot since I'm low-porosity, fine strands with medium to low density and also have type 4 hair mostly a mixture of 4a & 4b but hopefully this is helpful to you

You should try ORS buttercreme hair butter and carols daughter coco creme! They are very moisturizing and not expensive at all. Those two products are really great for retaining length. I think it would really be a game changer to add into your regimen.

Jesy Pop acv is highly acidic, so it works kind of like a super string conditioner and seals the cuticles. There are also tons of good bacteria that improve scalp health too! I mix 1/3 acv to 2/3 filtered water and it does wonders for hair and scalp health. So goood

Have you ever considered going to an hairdresser where they can identify your hair type and give you proper advice to achieve your goals? Don't go to any hairdresser but one that specializes in afrohair. My personal experience was great! This also saved me tons of money cause I didn't have to try every product in the whole damn store 😅

I never really liked most of Shea Moisture's products. When I first went natural, I used Cantu or Kinky Curly Knot today. With basic shea butter added to that, I started lerning my hair. I used Luster's Pink when I was relaxed and couldn't get my hair past chin length.

Hey! i also have low porosity hair with fine strands.I suggest that when you are using oils that you use lighter oils such almond oil . This oil is light enough to be absorbed into the low porosity hair shaft..i also think that you should try "Mielle Organics' White Peony Leave-In Conditioner" it is light , this ensures that the hair isn't weighed down (this definitely matters when you have fine hair) another product i suggest is the "oyin handmade hair dew" this is also light weight, very moisturizing, and has great slip. btw i love your channel
