Did you guys enjoy this? Should I say yes to things in the future that really do fall in line with what we do here on the channel so we can check them out, or did you hate it? Be brutally honest. FYI, they offered a commission on these but I turned it down. I don't ever want to be 'selling' anything to you guys, but I am interested in checking out stuff that's on the 3dprinting/maker radar if you guys are into it.

Your channel, you can do whatever interests you, and what you find fun - these videos take YOUR TIME and YOUR EFFORT. Not exactly what Im interested in, I'm too scared to use an unenclosed, non-interlocked laser, with glasses of unknown effectiveness, but each to their own. That said, I watched it all, and viewers can always skip sections or the whole video if not their cup of tea, and I do think its related, and can produce interesting and useful items. Thanks for making them, I've watched them all.

I'm no fan of undisclosed LASERS. And now smoke extraction ether.
Thanks for sharing your excitement with all of us :-)

yeh, the very next project for the laser will be enclosure and fume extraction

Nice review. Make a habit of putting on the glasses as soon as you are about to power up the machine. Even the reflection of the beam can damage your eyes.

so, I have the same laser. To keep from having to put glasses on all the time, I bought an enclosure, and use orange acrylic as a 'skirt' for the front in case I forget to close the enclosure. since I keep the laser in my shop, I do this more as fire prevention than eye protection though

Enclosure is definitely the way to go if it's an option. I already walked into the shop once and forgot it was running and looked in that direction. Fortunately was about 25' away, and was just reflection, but still. Enclosure is on the to-do list.

I hope you can go over how you got files to transfer via wifi to the card in your laser. I am struggling with that, and really Lightburn in general. Fusion 360 is comfortable for me now. Lightburn has me spinning my wheels. Otherwise your channel really hits the things I am interested in. I'll be watching.

once on your wifi, you just need the IP address and you plug that into your browser

there is a setting to make fill show as a solid color in the viewer of lightburn
Also, As someone who has used both programs, lightburn is WAY better. it seems more like it was designed for modern systems, while the laserGRBL feels like it was designed 10 years ago, and the menus are not as intuitive

If your machine allows you, I would encourage you to do a homing sequence. If it's running GRBL (assuming it does based on the lightburn device config), in the web interface for the machine you should be able to type in "$H" in the terminal and hit enter. That will position the laser to a known zero coordinate (look into G28 gcode command). That is how the machine will know (and you will know) where you place the stock material. I haven't used lasers yet, but I have ran multiple CNCs many using GRBL or some variation of it. Hopefully the gantry hardware and software are similar enough for my comment to provide some useful info.

Is there no mode to let the laser quickly run around the perimeter of the job with very low power (not burning anything) just to get a view on where the job would come on the total surface?

I liked it and have interest in 3d printing + laser engraving to supplement my machining hobby.
i waited until last year to buy a 3d printer as I did not think them ready to be used like a tool, and did not want to spend time futzing about with getting stuff to work.
Im thinking the same with laser engraving. I need system that is able to engrave aluminium and stainless steel.
As to reviews... maybe set up a second channel "Functional Review Friday" to seperate the content.
As long as you stay in the "Practical" theme and not the bangood/vevor/aliexpress crap you dont need show, I think you have an audience already assembled here.
You also have to manage your time and assess the impact a 2nd channel will make on your and your family's life.

Thanks for your feedback. Current plan is to drop the functional printing vids on Fridays and other stuff other days of the week (but not as a replacement for the functional printing vid for that week). Funny you mention vevor because I recently bought something from them that's not even the dimensions they stated and they don't want to take it back.
Some of the stuff they have is really reasonably priced for what you get. It's hit and miss. I have a drill sharpener I bought from them that's a copy of a much more expensive one that I'll be designing a dust collector for soon. What 3D printer did you end up getting?

So I have been trying to do the same thing on PLA, however the only laser that can do that on PLA is a fiber laser. However, those are 2-3K for a 5x5 inch work area,,

yeh, so I've learned. . wouldn't mind having one. prices on the fiber lasers seem to be coming down

Looks like the laser bleached the PETG by only burning off the colorant. You might get different results for different colors or manufacturers.

Why do Chinese companies always choose the ugliest most disgusting font available for their screens? It baffles me
