I remember the night Owen returned to Raw after the Montreal screwjob. Bret was gone. Shawn was in the ring gloating and Owen appeared out of nowhere. In street clothes. He jumped into the ring and started assaulting Shawn. Me and my friends immediately thought "This is it. This is the big push that's finally going to put Owen in the world title matches." But it never happened.
The fact that Owen never got a push after the screwjob is a damn travesty. It's a story that writes itself. Instead, Shawn had to be Shawn and bury him. What a damn shame. Love ya forever, two time Slammy Award Winner!
To be fair, the plan was probably always for Austin to win the title from Shawn at WM14 so keeping Owen and Shawn apart until after then would have been logical. Shawn's back injury meant that the feud wouldn't have been practical but Owen's booking during and after WM14 really doesn't inspire confidence in the idea that Owen would have gone over if Shawn's career had continued; he lost to HHH at 2 consecutive PPVs before turning heel and joining The Nation to beat The New Age Outlaws and HHH at IYH: Over the Edge before being left off King of the Ring altogether (personally I'd have said the best way to handle it would have been for Owen to win at WM so he at least had a moral victory over DX before holding the European title for a few months).
That was one of the best matches I've ever seen. Owen was just on another level and out shined his big brother that night and Brett wouldn't have had it any other way; I'm sure.
When Owen died, this is when I saw kayfabe break for the first time in my life. Especially seeing Triple H cry real bad because, right before Owen died, he had a big storyline fued against Triple H
I need to go back and rewatch Owen Hart matches and pay attention to his work. Because I was just a kid when I'd see him on TV. I remember before the Screwjob, WWE started putting out vignettes re: Owen being “The Real Hitman” for taking out Austin and HBK respectively in matches. At the time they hadn’t even leaked that BRET was leaving, but it gave you an idea of what Vince wanted to do.
Loved the Owen episode of Dark Side, but it was tough to watch. I still remember my first day of wrestling school we all wore black armbands for Owen (it was the weekend after he passed away)
The Hart Foundation will always be my favorite faction when I was a kid. Bret Hart is my favorite wrestler and Wrestlemania 10 and the epic cage match between Bret and Owen Hart was my favorite. Owen Hart the King of Hearts
Owen Hart was ahead of his time if he hadn’t passed away he would’ve had some fucking amazing matches with Eddie Guerrero, Jericho, Angle, Lesnar, Mysterio, so many dream matches we never got to see RIP Owen the King of Harts 👑❤️
Seeing that picture of the ring where Owen fell and the blood stain on the ring apron made me horrified. Sprinkled with those video snippets of Owen talking into the camera and Oje and even Jim not being able to keep it together, the latest episode of Dark Side was a real tear jerker. But I think Owen would look down only in joy at what a glorious family and great memories he left behind to grace the world.

15:14 an FYI the Canadian boxer George Chuvalo is the inspiration for the Rocky character in Rocky film. His fight with Muhamad Ali was what Rocky was based upon.
A feud with the Babyface Lie Cheat and Steal Eddie Guerrero vs the Slammy Award winning Owen Hart would have been amazing in and out of the ring. A serious main event level match would have been spectacular.
Owen and Shawn had a great match on Raw after Owen came back and jumped Shawn at the DX event. The Black Hart was Owen's best character. I never understood why they ditched that character. There was never any chance for a long program with Owen and Shawn. Shawn wrestled Taker at the Royal Rumble and missed No Way Out because of his back injury, wrestled Austin at WM 14 (probably his only match in his last 45 days as champion), and then left to rehab his injured back. WM 10 was Owen's finest moment. It bested the ladder match between Shawn and Razor that night. A close second is the greatest cage match I've ever seen between Owen and Bret at Summerslam.
After watching the episode I felt selfish wanting Owen in the HOF all this time. Can now fully understand why Martha doesn't want him in there.Shes got every right to feel the way she feels.
I remember as a young'un seeing The Blue Blazer for the first time and being amazed by what he did in the ring compared to what WWF mostly offered...when I found out it was "Bret's Little Brother" it all made instant sense...what a shame...
I got the honor of seeing Owen Hart right in front of my face; he was in character and he shook at his head at us LOL. He was so incredible with his heel heat; he was Yokozuna's partner at the time. I remember him waving the Japanese flag to tick off the fans, he was enjoying it lol! RIP Black Hart King of Harts
Just watched Owens dark side of the ring episode. Hearing Corny say that Owen’s last words were “watch out!” Broke my heart. He was such a good man, and died for such a purposeless reason. The fact that they couldn’t find anything else, for a talent like his to do, is completely embarrassing. RIP.
One thing that stuck me watching that episode is I can't imagine what it was like for the people in the building. It's horrifying to think you either went to work or bought a ticket to see a show and you see that. That image would be burned into my mind. I'm so glad there's no footage of it to be found.
Would have loved to have heard about his favorite Owen ribs. Owen was a known prankster and a damn fine one at that. I like to think he and Fuji are one upping each other in the great wrestling ring in the sky.
Shawm: Nope, we weren't gonna have a program together. Yeah actually you were but refused to lose to Owen. Vince wanted to rub it in Bret's face and make Owen the new Canadian hero (which Brets used to being). Sure Owen was always treated like a clown by Vince with the blueblazer thing but towards the end with the would Black Hart angle, Vince was finally taking Owen serious to imo rub Bret favorite position of top Canadian in his face. He was gonna have Owen beat Shawn and Shawn was not having it. He was seconds from losing his smile for the 3rd time. "BOOhoo why do I have to lose? Not fair. Youre bullying me. Not fair, only i can bully".. lol but seriously, Owen isnt the type to fight or make a big deal about back stage politics and was more like "idk Vince, tell me what you want me to do and I'll do it aslong as it wont offend Martha or my kids. He didn't care about losing or being the next top guy. Owen wanted to do wrestling for about 2 more years to save up enough pay and retire a slower normal life as a once in a while substitute teacher and live the rest of his days with his family.
@J Crash I agree that Owen going over Shawn is silly but still I kinda wanted to see were Vince was going with that.. you know the whole "SERIOUS" Owen. Even tho hey never really gave a damn it would've been nice to see that drama, but again Owen was literally the type to say "I'll do whatever you want boss, as long as you don't make me have a love interest with some female". It was Vince's idea that Owen ends up having an affair with his partner's Jeff Jarrett's girl Deborah McMichaels, which Jarrett was like sure why not, Deb also was down but not Owen. They wanted him to have an edge to him. A whole "I don't care about my partners relationship, idc about following the rules, screw Bret I was the best anyways" bad boy attitude which was literally well needed from him, and he agreed to all of it but the Deborah thing. Said I'll do whatever you want, but don't make me look like I'm fooling on my wife. He really did love Martha.
@J Crash but still even if Owen didn't take the business serious, how many ppl is this f-head gonna say no to just cause he wants to only play with his own friends. Sorry but Vince shouldve put him in his place A LONG TIME AGO. No more kliq b.s. no more telling me to fire people, and you do as I tell you to do, final.

I want to see him angry, mad, stubborn, yelling, insulting, loud...but to break that man's heart, with everything that's he's gone through in the biz...goddamn... Rest in peace Owen, he was my favorite wrestler and a part of my own love of the business went with him.
I remember finding out Owen died that night. I hadn't purchased the PPV (didn't have the money) and opted for watching the Jesse Ventura TV biopic movie. Movie ends and Owen's passing was what my local news led with. I was so shocked
JL Pretty much everybody not in the click, so everyone lol jk. Off the top of my head I don’t remember but if you Google undertakers BSK crew(I think that was the name of the group) there should be a picture they all took together.
Seeing Jim break down a bit about Owen during Dark Side of the Ring is something I never thought I’d see, but it gives me a whole new level of respect for Cornette as a person. The man is more than crass hot takes and profanity; he’s one of the best minds the wrestling industry has ever seen.
I hated Owen as a kid. I felt so terrible when I heard on the radio on the way to school that he'd died. I remember seeing a window washer up on a building and thinking he better be careful.
@michael murillo To be fair, Shawn was a heel so coming up with obnoxious nick-names for rivals is a reasonable thing to do. The lack of comeuppance was more of a problem here (I was commenting to someone else that Shawn's back injury meant the logical "put Owen over after dropping the world title to Austin" storyline couldn't happen but having Owen put HHH over instead of beating him casts doubt on whether he would have been allowed to beat Shawn clean if Shawn hadn't temporarily retired).
Martha Hart is one of my heroes after that episode. The strength it took to walk herself and her kids through Owen's final hours, and to hold WWE accountable, even when her family sold her out for it, is incredible.
But, you're missing the point, as soon as Owen got hurt, the medical people as well as the police should've stopped the show right then at that moment & declared the area a crime scene. I mean, if a fan would've gotten hurt or something in the process, Vince really would've had not just more legal issues, but also more bad publicity.
Travis Weberling Well yeah that’s true if Owen would’ve landed on somebody it would have been bad legally but he didn’t so that probably wasn’t going through anybody’s head and crime scene? Please it was an accident even if Owen wasn’t a fan of the gimmick he still agreed to do the entrance and plus Owen didn’t hit the floor dead he died on the way to the hospital
@@smittywerbenjagermanjensen4737 suggesting a show should end when a performer literally dies in front of the crowd is the exact opposite of not being fair. @@smittywerbenjagermanjensen4737 It did turn out to be an accident but how would anybody right at that moment know that? It was a potential crime scene and the police should have shut it down so an investigation could be done to find out exactly what happened.

Correction: George Chuvalo is from Toronto, and NOT a French Canadian. His 1st fight with Ali at Maple Leaf Gardens was the inspiration to Rocky vs Creed.
There were two times it could of worked Summerslam 1994 and royal rumble 1998 if the casket match didn’t happen HBK wouldn’t of for his back hurt then owen could of dropped the title to shawn a month later. I don’t like hot potatoe but at lest owen would have won it and it would of made sense but HBK was a dick back then to the hats and austin as champ he broke Austin’s neck so good luck owen with austin and Shawn on top to get another push
It truly was a sad day when Owen died. Owen could do everything. He had great mic skills, he could take you out with submissions and he could hit you with aerial moves. I still wish he was still around today. We lost a great human being that night.
If I'm not mistaken in Sept 95, Owen's daughter Athena was born that week or even that weekend. I wonder if that played a role in why Owen showed up late as well.
Ya God damn right that show shouldn't have went on. I was there that night and they didn't tell us a damn thing. I didn't find out that he died until I got back home.
George Chuvalo was a 5 x Canadian Heavyweight Champion. He was from Toronto Ontario. My Great Uncle was one of the guys who Trained George Chuvalo to Box. George Chuvalo had a Heavyweight Title vs Muhammad Ali. When my Uncle passed away George Chuvalo attended his funeral.
I still remember the morning I learned Owen died. I loved the feuds he had with Austin, Jason Sensation, Ken Shamrock... the list goes on; he was just fantastic.
The levels of disrespect the WWF had over Owen was something else. After Brett left, he was a lower mid-card guy, they changed his name to the Blue Meanie, made him wear a mask, killed him on a PPV and continue that PPV even after he had died on air. Never forget.
The WWF didn’t disrespect Owen. They bought the Blue Blazer back because Owen turned down every idea that creative throw at him and Owen would come up with any ideas oh his own. In regards to whether or not the show should’ve gone on or not it’s dam you if you do, dam you if you don’t. If Vince stopped the show then he would have been sued by the Pay-per-view companies and the people own arena for bleach. Plus he would have been sued by the Hart family regardless what ever decision he made. Multiple lawsuits going on at once could have bankrupted the company.

@ShadowAngel 5:15 shows how fucking stupid you are and that you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
Yes, a real
Travesty. Thanks to these podcasts we know the politics of the time and who the cunts were.
Also, the way Owen worked that slammy thing into the job, very funny. Enough is enough!
& bringing him back as the same bad gimmick he had when he debuted in the company, that really put butts in the seats right?

That was one of the best matches I've ever seen. Owen was just on another level and out shined his big brother that night and Brett wouldn't have had it any other way; I'm sure.
Watched that match last month and completely forgot about that lol really made me chuckle. What a match though, just an absolute masterpiece
Best match of the night.
@Akbar Shabazz-Jenkins Yes it's the wrestling I prefer.
THE MATCH THAT STOLE THE SHOW BEFORE IT EVEN STARTED YES HBK VS RAZOR CLASSIC BUT BRET VS OWEN HARD TO BEAT
Imagine if we had got to see Owen Hart vs Chris Benoit.

I was there that night in Kansas City...it was my first wrestling ppv. Glad to see Martha getting her story out after all these years.
I would love for you to tell your story!
Yes tell us your story
It was my first PPV also but we watched it on TV at a friend’s birthday who was a big Owen fan as well as myself.
Damn! Your first wrestling event and that shit happens?
When Owen died, this is when I saw kayfabe break for the first time in my life. Especially seeing Triple H cry real bad because, right before Owen died, he had a big storyline fued against Triple H
I need to go back and rewatch Owen Hart matches and pay attention to his work. Because I was just a kid when I'd see him on TV. All I can recall (and this may be the Mandela effect) is Owen constantly whining and crying about being called a nugget. Lol
But yeah, RIP Owen. My respects as always. Gone way too soon.
I have done the same thing and damn....he really was good. I was just a kid myself but Owen definitely should have been a top guy after Bret left. He came back really pissed off and cussing at Vince. They should have run with the black Hart gimmic
They used to call him nugget and yes he did used to whine and pout about it. But it was all kayfabe, he was Bret harts little brother. The little nugget
The feud against Bret was gold

I loved Owen. I remembered when I would shout at him to kick austin's ass and he would give me a smirk and a thumb up lol. :(
Travis Heckel's artwork is the best!!!
Jim's tears for owen spoke levels to me, I'd never thought I'd see corny cry but that highlighted the respect and love he had for Owen and wrestling , if Jim cornette respects you ,your doing wrestling right in his eyes that traditional style even tho Owen was a pioneer of high flying technical wrestling Jim thought he was truely next big thing.
Owen Hart the King of Hearts
..yes agree
Owen Hart was ahead of his time if he hadn’t passed away he would’ve had some fucking amazing matches with Eddie Guerrero, Jericho, Angle, Lesnar, Mysterio, so many dream matches we never got to see RIP Owen the King of Harts 👑❤️
OWEN IS RAW
Owen is wrestling.

After all these years, I finally know what Owen meant when he'd talk on WWF Attitude on the N64 and say: "I AM NOT A NUGGET." thanks Jim lol
After watching the episode I felt selfish wanting Owen in the HOF all this time. Can now fully understand why Martha doesn't want him in there.Shes got every right to feel the way she feels.
I dont think fans wanting him there is selfish.

@Brian Pratt’s But his career should have been a hell of a lot better.
RIP Black Hart King of Harts
sound like Owen haha
Just watched Owens dark side of the ring episode. Hearing Corny say that Owen’s last words were “watch out!” Broke my heart. He was such a good man, and died for such a purposeless reason. The fact that they couldn’t find anything else, for a talent like his to do, is completely embarrassing. RIP.
Jim speaking French was just what I needed
One thing that stuck me watching that episode is I can't imagine what it was like for the people in the building. It's horrifying to think you either went to work or bought a ticket to see a show and you see that. That image would be burned into my mind. I'm so glad there's no footage of it to be found.
I was living in Calgary when Owen died... you can't begin to imagine how heart broken the city was at that time...
Would have loved to have heard about his favorite Owen ribs. Owen was a known prankster and a damn fine one at that. I like to think he and Fuji are one upping each other in the great wrestling ring in the sky.
Great show
Shawm: Nope, we weren't gonna have a program together.
@J Crash Owen has no interest become world champion he just happy to Wrestling

MJ Jarvis your not being fair nothing like that happened before and they made a judgement call it’s not as bad as people make it out to be
But, you're missing the point, as soon as Owen got hurt, the medical people as well as the police should've stopped the show right then at that moment & declared the area a crime scene.

I like how Brian brought back up the tv theme songs from the other day
Vince didn’t see Owen as main event because unlike Shawn Owen didn’t give vince lap dances
Correction: George Chuvalo is from Toronto, and NOT a French Canadian. His 1st fight with Ali at Maple Leaf Gardens was the inspiration to Rocky vs Creed.

I was just thinking "I wonder what the theme song is like" when Brian said it. Ive been listening to these podcasts for far too long.
owen shouldve been the wwf champion
There were two times it could of worked Summerslam 1994 and royal rumble 1998 if the casket match didn’t happen HBK wouldn’t of for his back hurt then owen could of dropped the title to shawn a month later.
I don’t like hot potatoe but at lest owen would have won it and it would of made sense but HBK was a dick back then to the hats and austin as champ he broke Austin’s neck so good luck owen with austin and Shawn on top to get another push
Not while his brother was there and after he left everything changed no way he gets a chance
There's always that false win in the lumberjack match, but he's at least announced at WWF champion for a short bit

@Javy 22 yea that's why I always looked at it as him trying to be his own man I wish they would have came up with something better for him
It truly was a sad day when Owen died.
I've heard that rumour too.
It's interesting that Owen still managed to make it, if that did happen.

Ah hearing him refer to Russo as "shit stain" never gets old 😄
The levels of disrespect the WWF had over Owen was something else.
