A Japanese Larch Becomes a Bonsai

  • Follow the process of transforming a simple Japanese Larch into a bonsai tree over the course of a year. Working with the plant material at hand, and using mature Larch trees in nature as inspiration, I do my best to come up with a sustainable design that is representative of a larger alpine tree buffeted by the elements such as wind and snow. My aim is always to create a miniature representation of nature.
I’m truly grateful for the response to the videos I’ve uploaded so far, and I’m working as fast as I can to keep producing them. Thank you for the patience and support. I am of course limited by nature and the seasons (and a bit of perfectionism too!) but rest assured there are plenty more on the way :)

If anyone is equally inspired and intimidated to get into bonsai by seeing this guy at work I highly recommend just going for it. Look at some bonsai for beginner videos, pull a sapling out of the ground, buy a couple of tools and some wire, don't worry about specific pots at the start. Putting 10% of this effort will result in some immensely satisfying results. The first time I wired something into shape and seeing it turn from a boring stick into a miniature tree is almost as satisfying as watching this video. Oh and kudos on the effort and editing, these videos are leaps and bounds ahead ❤

Not only has this video convinced me that I want to make one of these for my Mom, but its turned me onto what I hadn't realized is the most beautiful expression of art i've ever seen. The cinematography, professional lighting, studio setup, time lapse, animation, special effects and detailed every move over the course of months, including setting up the camera for each shot. The amount of work that went into this is insane. Not only detailed and beautiful but also incredibly creative. This is the best bonsai video I’ve seen and it’s also the best how to and documentary videos I’ve seen period. Master filmmaker and Bonsai artist. Congrats.

That was so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye. I'm glad you show us your journey and just how much work, time and effort goes into tending to a bonsai. Your videowork is pristine, and I was bragging about your video transition skills to friends.

I love how all of the editing tricks are the same, some other TH-cam channels often go overboard. My favorites are the magically moving tree and the snip-snip of the scissors. Thx for all you do!

@@dorothykern8537 Thanks Dorothy. Larch are relatively fast growing trees so usually it's only a few months before they need removing.
